It was a nice experience, different from usual city sightseeing. It was amazing to be able to walk into the volcano craters in the middle of a busy, big city.

I had a private tour since no one else signed up that day. I learned an incredible amount about volcanoes and saw incredible scenery. It was a good length for a tour and I highly recommend it, especially since it is so different from the other ones.

Mike is a friendly knowledgeable guide. The tour includes some hiking up, down and around numerous dormant volcanos. Mike makes a genuine effort to get to know his guests and his guests to know him. His van limits the size of the group to a very comfortable number. We would recommend this tour to others. A good way to see the Auckland area before or after a cruise.

Mike was amazing... informative, fun and passionate. The views were incredible. The uphill climbs were a bit challenging - but nothing this old and out of shape body couldn't handle. Mike made sure we got photos at every opportunity. _br/_ I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Auckland... WELL worth it!

This was a half day tour that I was able to book on short notice. It was a wonderful introduction to Auckland, its geology and the early settlers.

A lovely way to spend a half day in Auckland and get to know Auckland beyond the city center. Mike, our tour guide, was friendly, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. You will learn an amazing amount about geology, natural history, the Maori people, and the colonial period in New Zealand. The views were breathtaking, and the hiking is not overly strenuous. Highly recommended.

So glad my friend and I went on this tour. Mike was a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable volcano guide, sharing his wisdom about their history and some general knowledge about the Maori people. Every volcano seemed so special to him and that admiration and respect imparted itself to us. The Auckland vistas were breathtaking and Mike also took a few photos of us, demonstrating his familiarity with cameras, be they SLRs or cellphone. The shots he took were nicely composed and in the most opportune spots. One quirky thing happened on Mangere Mountain the cows became very active and vocal and all hurriedly assembled in one area. We weren't quite sure what this unusual occurrence was about, but it was fascinating to watch. This tour is well worth five hours of your time to learn about volcanos, soak up the vistas, and get some splendid photographic mementos.

Fantastic opportunity to learn about the volcanoes of Auckland and see amazing views of the city, islands and mountain ranges. Mike our guide is very well informed on the subject and the history of Auckland, including really interesting information on the Maori and British settlements around the area.... the tour is very well paced and makes for a great day outdoors to see and learn more about Auckland, it's volcanoes and history.. not to be missed.

Since I had been to Auckland before I wanted to do something a little different. Auckland is built on 55 volcanoes and we toured 6 of the main ones. It's a good way to see all of the outlying areas of Auckland and surrounding waters.. Our guide was very versed in the history of the volcanoes as well as the Maori relationship to them. The only issue was that the tour had been oversold so we left late after two of the people agreed to take the afternoon tour.

For those who enjoy taking the path less travelled this unique insight into the volcanoes and history of Auckland is a 'must do'. Mike is a great guide whose interest in his subject, in Auckland and in life in general comes sparkling through. If you enjoy high places and photo opportunities all the better.

An excellent half day tour around the outskirts of Aucland with a very knowledgeable guide who has a real passion for what he is doing. We learnt a lot about volcanoes generally as well as learning of the impact they have had on Auckland and how the Maori benefited from them.

we were not quite sure what to expect at first.. but by the end of the tour,, we can only be so happy we have booked it! we believe what made it so interesting is that our Guide, Mike , had so much knowledge of each volcano and the Maori history.. each part of town we visited was always completed with a full interesting description of its history. If you have half day to spare in Auckland... book this trip and ask for Mike as your guide.

Mike was an awesome tour guide. It happened to be just him and I on the tour and he was very professional throughout the entire tour, around Auckland. He answered every question I had and was a wealth of knowledge. Really enjoyed this volcano tour around Auckland.

Review is late but we just got back to the states. This tour was outstanding and rates number one in our travels throughout New Zealand and Australia. Along with the views we learned a lot of history of New Zealand, the Auckland area and of the Maori people.

Ths is such a unique local knowledge tour I totally recommend it. More like spending half a day with a friendly local who enjoys showing you his favourite volcano sites. Mike took our family of three one eleven year old, and one other traveller out on a Saturday morning tour of 4 volcano Mts in Auckland. This tour is a great escape to some fabulous scenery complete with sheep, cattle and dog walkers! Mike drove us to Mt Wellington, Mt Mangere, One Tree Hill and Mt Eden. At each location he explained the volcanic and social history and pointed out landmarks on the horizon. Fantastic views over Auckland. Plenty of photo opportunities. Mike took us to a bakery for morning tea and provided plenty of local knowledge conversation during the drive. He kindly dropped us back at our city hotel as we had a plane to catch the same day.

The most frustrating part was finding the pickup spot. From Queen street, turn right and the steps are about 500 feet. None of the buildings have numbers on them, so it's hard to know which direction to go. From the time Mike met us, he was very personable and really catered to the group. He took his time. Though it was a half day tour he didn't rush us. He went our pace, which is important climbing the hills. He was quite informative but didn't talk every second of the trip. That was nice. The price is right for this trip. I think it's the only way you will see the top of four volcanoes in one day without stress.

This was a unique and very informative trip in Auckland. We got a very good overview/drive of the city as we saw volcanoes all over! We had kids ages 7 and 9 and adults on this tour and it was unique, fun and appropriate for the different age span. The kids had fun running around the volcanoes and seeing interesting rocks and views and the adults learned a lot about the history of Auckland. It was a great tour for all and would highly recommend it!

Review by:   Traveling-Linen,    December 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
If the word volcano got your attention, skip this tour. The volcanoes you see are long extinct and now grassy hills. The views of Auckland were very nice and the walking tour is low-difficulty. However, if you are thinking spewing lava and smoke, you'll be sorely disappointed. The guide was great, very personable and easy-going. The cost is very low as well. We were roped in by the volcano part and wound up being less excited about seeing several grassy hills.

Best bang for your buck in the Auckland tour scene. This tour gave us unique views of the city that no other tour offered. Mike was a knowledgeable host and guide - you can tell he loves his city. For those on the tour who forgot their water - he had free water bottles. Overall, a fantastic experience.

Not to be missed - fantastic views from each and every vantage point and enough time to capture those fabulous pics. _br/_ Mike was an attentive, friendly and engaging guide, full of informative facts about the sites visited and happy to answer off-topic questions relating to areas we passed through along the way. Only issue on the day was the weather - blustery to say the very least but on the bright side it didn't actually rain on us. Would have been much more enjoyable without being fearful of being blown off the tracks whilst surveying the scenery. Enjoyed the bakery shop stop for lunch - apple and rhubarb pie recommended! _br/_ Good luck with future tour plans and the bus and thanks for the experience.

This was a great tour. Mike was very knowledgable and helpful. He was an easy going and cheerful guide. I enjoyed doing something different in Auckland. Don and #39;t expect live volcanos ( not in Auckland) and you and #39;ll have an interesting day out.

Mike the tour guide was fantastic. I had a great 5 hours venturing to and walking around 4 different volcano sites in Auckland including Mt Wellington, One Tree Hill and Mt Eden with him. Mike was great to talk to throughout and he really knew a lot about Aucklands volcanoes. Highly recommended.

I sort of picked this tour on a whim, just looking for something to fill up an extra day I had in Auckland and came across this tour, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. It ended up being one of the more eye-opening parts of my trip as I learned about the history and landscape of the city!

We had an enjoyable 5 hour tour with Mike who took us to the inactive volcanic sites that surround Auckland. We were able to walk around a number of craters with a stop off half way through the day for lunch. Mike was very informative. A bottle of water for each customer would be a great inclusion as it was a warm day.

The Volcanoes tour is very informative as the guide is knowledgeable and very friendly. You will do some walking so turn up with decent walking shoes. The views are spectacular from each of the sites you visit. I learnt a lot about how Auckland was formed and what makes the geography of this city so special. While you are walking up and down the rim of the volcanoes it is not a difficult walk and the tour is not rushed which makes for a great day seeing the city from different angles. The highlight of the tour was being able to see both city harbours from the top of Mt Wellington. I fully recommend this tour as it is well worth it.
