Adventure Day Trip to West Coast Beaches from Auckland

This is a small group (2-12 people) adventure tour on Auckland's West Coast Black Sand surf beaches.  It will be tailored to suit the preferences of the group, and the weather conditions of the day. It will involve running down sand dunes, climbing amazing rock formations, swimming in places like caves and waterfalls, exploring quicksand rivers, hunting through rock pools for crabs and shellfish, taking amazing photographs of spectacular scenery in remote wild areas, possibly finding sea life such as seals, dolphins, etc. Every day is different - only one thing is consistent - you will go home sandy, wet, tired and happy. Enjoy personalized attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 11 people.

Following a pickup between 9:30am and 10am at your Auckland hotel, take a seat in your vehicle for the 30- to 45-minute journey out to the coast to begin your 6-hour tour. Travel through the mighty Waitakere Ranges and admire sweeping views over New Zealand’s rugged countryside.

We will make a pit-stop on the way out to allow you to grab essentials (sandwiches for the road, sunscreen, coffee.)

During your half-day tour, visit Piha Beach or Muriwai Beach, or potentially lake Wainamou and the massive sand dunes. Or perhaps Anwhata, one of Auckland's hidden gems - all widely considered among the region’s most spectacular stretches of coastline. Jump in the sea, clamber over rugged rocks, trek through flowing rivers, and enjoy all the outdoor adventure New Zealand has to offer.

At Piha, watch huge surf (often over 10ft high) crash into amazing rocks and surge through caves. On calmer days you may swim in those caves. Climb the iconic Lion Rock and take photos of the surrounding shore lines, and the dramatic 130-foot (40-meter) high Kitekite Falls. Lunch on the top of Taitomo Island, after wading through the rivers in the Piha Canyons. Alternatively, at Muriwai, admire native gannet colonies nesting on the clifftops (depending on the season). Watch powerful jets of water exploding through blowholes in the rock and enjoy a stroll along the rugged, open shoreline. Or Anawhata, with it's spectacular hilltop views, powerful surf, fun rock formations and beautiful rivers to swim in. Where you may dive off rocks and swim through caves with small crabs running to hide from you. 

When your time on the coast comes to an end, return in comfort — tired and happy — to your Auckland hotel to conclude your half-day tour.
