Full-Day Hobbiton and Rotorua Tour from Auckland
Auckland, New Zealand
Visit the Hobbiton Movie Set and Rotorua including sightseeing and Lunch. All sightseeing is completed by 4:30pm and you can finish at Rotorua or return to Auckland. If you are staying in Rotorua you will be dropped at your accommodation or a central location in Rotorua, before the group leaves to go back to Auckland. Our small group tours have a maximum size of 14 passengers and no minimum numbers are required.
Hotel pick ups begin from 6:40am and we start our day traveling from Auckland to Hobbiton through the Waikato where you see Dairy Farms and the Hauraki Plains. On arrival at Hobbiton you will be guided through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. You will be escorted through the twelve acre site and be given fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created.
The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, the Mill and other structures were created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. They can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth, with the finale being a complimentary drink at the "Green Dragon Inn".
After this tour you will travel to Rotorua (approximately 55 minutes) to Te Puia where you will have lunch. Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of Rotorua. It is home to the Pohutu geyser, mud pools, hot springs, silica formations, the Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. They have shared these treasures with manuhiri (visitors) for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.
We also explore Rotorua, visiting the lake front, the government gardens and other attractions before returning North to Auckland or you can leave us here in Rotorua.
Had a great time with this full day tour. We only had a couple of days in NZ and we're glad we booked this tour.

It was an amazing trip to the Hobbiton movie sets and we enjoyed every bit of it. Thr rotorua trip was good but felt like we could see more. It was too short and not worth the money. The coach drivers were very kind and good. Will definetly recommend the Hobbiton tour.

It was amazing! Everything was beatiful! The only negative thing is that they say you can enter in one of the houses, but its not really the inside of a house as you thing. Its just a small dig up they made so you can take a picture on the inside of a window, to pretend you are inside of a house. AMazing as it is, they shouldnt say you can enter a house or they should build the interior of one and say you can enter.

Makes a great day tour combination from Auckland. The tour company provides transport from Auckland and ticket purchase, the tours are then provided by on site guides at Hobbiton and Rotorua who were great Stunned at how magnificently maintained Hobbiton is and the efficient way they ran tours and the Maori guide at Rotorua was terrific as was our Hangi lunch. Tour company Bus driver was not great - she could well do to keep her opinions of immigrants, Asians and her negative comments about staff at the sites to herself. This was a real turn off for me.

hobbiton and rotorua were great , what's not is by 3pm we were finished and had to wait for the people who went to waitomo caves, we also had to drop off a couple at a hotel. We were literally waiting in a parking lot for a total of 1 hr doing nothing and an additional 30-40 mins going around town checking some lakes etc but obviously it's to burn time so we don't have to wait longer at the parking lot. If you can't amend this then I suggest you add wine tasting or some other activity. I keep thinking we could have been back in the hotel by 6pm but instead we got home 8pm super tired!

Thanks to our tour guide Mike, it was a very good experince. Hobbitton is like a wonderland : However we wait on the bus by wasting time for 2 hours as some other customers were on Caves Tour. It is unacceptable:

This tour is well worth the full day adventure. You will enjoy the journey outside of Auckland to see all the lush green landscape. Hobbiton is beautiful and magical. Rotorua is beautiful and insightful.

the driver hardly spoke it was too far no toilet stops on the way to hobbiton and at Rotorua we had to drive across to the caves to pick up people which took and extra 1hr or so it meant we were on the road longer. With no toilets to stop at all !!! cruel to do this to us not good try other tours
