Piha Beach and Rainforest Day Tour

Small Group with a real local tour guide get to know what it is like to be a real local with a fun Day Tour walk to see a beautiful waterfall through the rain forest then feel the black sandy beach with big waves surf and the volcanic cliff faces plus much more!
Your day will begin with a free 10am pickup from your centrally located hotel or airport. A 10am start will allow you to enjoy a bit of a sleep in and also ensure we miss morning traffic.
We will then start our journey out west through Avondale, where we will pass by New Zealand’s biggest spider! On Sundays only, the tour will stop at Auckland’s biggest markets. Travel through the village of Ttitirangi, stopping at Arataki Visitor Information Centre in the Waitakere Ranges.
Your guide will show you the views on the outside of the building then we head inside for a short time before we are back out again to see the start of the Hillary Trail and a great view of both harbors. See the silver fern and Kauri tree, soak in the scent of the tree before heading out to the beautiful Piha Beach. Enjoy this breath-taking black sand beach with big surf waves and volcanic cliff faces.
After this we will stop in at a local café to feast on a delicious lunch (at own expense).
After lunch we will walk through the rainforest to a beautiful waterfall where you will be able to observe native birds and trees. You’ll also have the chance to indulge in a cool swim at the waterfall, so be sure to bring along your swimmers!
There seems to have been a bit of a mix up with Viator as they had somehow cancelled our tour so we were waiting a while to actually get started and were quite worried we would not be going especially as we had already paid for the tour. Terry however was accommodating and made the tour worth while. We called him and explained the situation and he was very understanding. He showed us amazing views and taught us a lot. Terry was very friendly and simply fantastic! Terry was an amazing guide. I would definitely recommend this tour.

The Waitakere Ranges is a must to see in Auckland, with a stop at the Aritaki Information Center with amazing views over Auckland and the Tasman sea, we were able to get to know the rainforest thanks to our guide who provided us with a lot of information about trees, flora and fauna walking to the Kitekite falls. Piha beach is spectacular.

This tour was great and the guide was amazing. Weather was unusually hot but, the swim in the pool under the waterfall was a perfect way to end the tour. Guide was fun and informative.

Terry was an amazing guide and host for the day! It turned out to be just our group of three and Terry. It really was like meeting up with a good friend who was showing you about his favorite places- not your typical canned tour at all! My son told me to meet a local to really learn about a place. This tour was exactly that! It was a personalized tour of Auckland's most beautiful areas and so much more- any question we had, Terry could answer, from New Zealand customs to rugby rules to social policy! This is was definitely a great way to see some of the best of Auckland's beaches and rainforest in a just a day! You need to be up for a fair bit of walking, and even climbing about some rocks on Piha Beach! However, the pace was manageable even for this 60 year old! This tour was the last one of our 2 week trip to Australia and New Zealand and by far the best we had! Cannot say enough about what a wonderful day we had with Terry!

Even though we started out in the misty fog and drizzle, this day was awesome. Thanks to Terry, our knowledgeable tour guide, we were treated on a hike to Kitekite Waterfall through a rainforest full of beautiful flora. Because we were the only people on the tour that particular day, we were shown a highly personalized time. Terry walked us to areas of beautiful Piha Beach which go largely unseen my most visitors. All it all, it was a fantastic way to begin our tour of New Zealand.
