Spend a full-day discovering the Cotes du Rhone variety of fine wines on this private tour. Learn about grape varieties, wine-production, and the rich history of the Rhone region. Visit a selected cellars complete with wine-tasting sessions (own expense). Enjoy a delicious lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant. You will receive convenient pickup and drop-off from your downtown Avignon hotel.
Start your Cote du Rhone wine tour with hotel pickup in downtown Avignon at 9am. Head south of Avignon for your first stop. Tastes the unique Roman wines at a traditional Roman vineyard (own expense) located in the heart of an archeological site. Then it is on to Tavel, proclaimed the Rose de France. You will have the opportunity to taste their signature pink wine that is both fresh and fruity. Learn how to best pair this wine and service with meals or as an aperitif.
Visit the Holy Family's Missionary Father's bicentenary vineyards and cellar, and taste their traditional wine. For the lunch, you will go to Lirac. This very typical red has complexity and bouquets, deep ruby robe, and the woods and licorice developing aromas during aging, make it an excellent "vin de garde". Enjoy a gastronomic French lunch (approximately € 22/person), made of fresh seasonal products, at the "Chateau".
Your second choice for lunch is the Châteauneuf-du-Pape (from € 32/person) "Château des Fines Roches." Each meal is made of fresh seasonal products, and have an optional wine tasting as aperitif (not included).
After lunch, you will go for a short walk to the viewpoint for a quick historical report, followed by the next winery: Laudun planted on small hills, around a lovely village. A very discrete area, but producing one of the best white wines. You will discover a traditional cellar, the owners themselves will be happy to let you taste their production.
Then move on to your final stop, the highlight of the area: Chateauneuf du Pape, which is one of the world's most famous and well-known wines of the Cotes du Rhone area. Explore these prestigious wine cellars, taste several reds and whites of different years, after a guided tour of the vineyards, to discover the wine making process and the terroir type.
At the end of the tour, your guide will drive you back to Avignon around 7pm.
