Private Guided Bike Tour Around L'Isle sur la Sorgue from Avignon
Avignon, France
You'll be picked up from your hotel in Avignon and driven to the village of l'Isle sur la Sorgue to begin your guided bike ride. Surrounded by the clear and emerald waters of the Sorgue river, the village streets are lined by quaint cafés and waterwheels. Your guided bike ride takes you off the beaten track along seldom-used country lanes lined by fruit orchards and farmhouses. You will cycle past sleepy villages on the way to the very source of the Sorgue river, the mysterious spring of Fontaine de Vaucluse. You'll have free time to visit the spring and enjoy a leisurely restaurant or picnic lunch (not included) before looping back to l'Isle sur la Sorgue by bike.
After being picked up at 9am from your hotel in Avignon you will be driven (around 45 minutes approximately) to the village of l'Isle sur la Sorgue to begin your guided bike ride. If you are there on a Sunday there is a lovely market that covers the entire center of the village. In l'Isle sur la Sorgue you will be fitted with a high-quality hybrid bicycle, a helmet, and a saddle bag. You can choose to wear bicycle-specific clothing (bib-shorts and a cycling jersey) but comfortable gym clothes are sufficient. You can wear running shoes for the flat pedals. We recommend that you bring a rain-jacket in case of bad weather that you can store in your saddle bag.
The riding is mostly flat around the countryside of l'Isle sur la Sorgue as you will be cycling through a countryside of fruit orchards and small country lanes. There is a 1km hill before reaching the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse where you'll have a stop for lunch. You can choose to eat in one of the many restaurants in town or get a picnic to eat by the banks of the Sorgue river (own expense).
After lunch you will return to l'Isle sur la Sorgue by bike, finishing the loop. You will then be driven back to your hotel in Avignon arriving at around 5pm. The total ride is 30km, mostly flat with one hill of 1km along the way (it's possible to dismount and walk along this section if necessary).
