Provence in One Day Small Group Day Trip from Avignon

Avignon, France

Forget the hassles of hiring a car and finding your own way! Take a small group tour of Provence and its exquisite highlights: Avignon, Pont du Gard, Les Baux de Provence and Roussillon. Your minivan holds a maximum of eight passengers, and a small group tour is the perfect way to get to out-of-the-way places in one day.

You will visit the famous Pont du Gard bridge classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site and dating back to the 1st century. You'll also tour the historic center of Les Baux de Provence, with free time to enjoy lunch on your own.

After a stop at the Antiques of Saint Remy de Provence, a triumphal arch and funeral monument in a field of olive trees painted many times by Vincent Van Gogh, you'll journey to the Luberon, made famous by Peter Mayle in his book A Year in Provence.

You'll also visit Roussillon and the dry-stone village of Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Finally there's a visit to a lavender museum to discover the floral symbol of Provence. You'll witness a distillation demonstration during the harvest (from July to August).

We had a great time on our tour. The guide gave just enough time for each place. Obviously we could have stayed longer in each place but then we wouldn't be able to see as much. It was the right balance.

Our driver and guide was very accommodating, checked the group constantly for our feedbacks and comfort level. He obviously is very familiar with the region and has taken us to all the historic sites and special spots for photo opportunities. It is a long day trip, but well worth the money if you don’t have a car. Will highly recommend it to other travelers alike.

Take another tour , our tour guide Francios showed up 25 min late , due to traffic , Traffic is always bad so I think you need to leave earlier .He was very kind and did call and the hotel let us know he was running late. Once in the van , in was nice but we had to request air conditioner to be on. We could not hear his low tone voice in the back seat , AT ALL. The speaker system was not working . we asked about rotating seats so at least we could hear some of it . He said no the other couple had motion sickness. SO basically for the entire trip we heard nothing. Once we got to the sites he stops and says go explore and no commentary was offered . in his defense if you directly asked him a question he was very happy to answer. At a market stop he dropped us off and said pick u up at the entrance in 1 hour , we waited 20 min then I went looking for him and found him on another street , again poor communication. Loved going to the open air market , favorite stop . We asked to go to a lavender field and he made a special stop for us to see that . we had a very rushed lunch , like 45 min at a lovely stop stop on the river. so basically he drove us to the sites listed and we explored on our own . I think too many stops and not enough explaining what we were seeing .Ask about being able to hear in the van don't go unless they have a microphone system in place .

The places visited were great but the guide was extremely rude and gave the one French speaker in the group extensive answers and carried on long private and personal conversations with her, while ignoring the 3 English speakers on the tour. Occasionally, she would give a brief explanation then continue her private conversation. She had no idea that 2 of the English speakers understood enough French to comprehend what was being said. We got more information from brochures and signage than from the guide. Unfortunately, we were assigned this guide for 2 tours and were stuck with her for 2 days. She was equally rude and discourteous on the other day when it was all English speakers.

This tour was amazing! Highly recommend it! We were in Avignon for two days and did not feel comfortable renting a car and driving the small narrow roads but we knew we wanted to see more of the Provence region. This tour was the perfect way to do this! Our guide gave us so much information and history on each place we went to and chatted with us the whole day. My one tip is when you get to Les Baux you do have enough time to do the castle you will just need to hustle through it as the hour goes by quick. We could have spent full days in each of the places we went to and it was a quick visit to each town but if you are short on time and can't rent a car yourself this is the perfect way to see the area and get so much insight into the Provence Region. Finishing at Pont Du Gard was perfect it was cooling down and there was a slight breeze, perfect way to end our day. You have an hour here as well but we could walk through the park at a nice leisurely pace, we did not feel rushed here at all. Go on this day trip!!! You will be happy you did!

This trip was exactly as described, and covered a lot in one day! The guide Nicolas from Provence Reservations was very friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure we saw everything in the most efficient way. We even saw Provence waterfalls he could not control the weather! but that did not spoil the day overall. A great way to cover a lot of sights if you have limited time.

A very packed day, but a great way to see a lot of sights. Prompt pick-up outside accommodation. Guide was friendly, and provided lots of information and commentary and pointed lots of things out a long the way.

A great day, a great group and a knowledgeable guide (Jeremy). We enjoyed the day so much, 6 of us hung out for dinner in Avignon after the tour ended (La Fourchette, good food!). Thanks for a cracker of a day!

A little rushed but overall quite OK. But my tip for my fellow travellers - don't listen to the tour guide when he / she tells you that you should not visit the Castle at Les Beaux de provence given time is constrained. You must see it, even if you need to run a bit to finish the trip within the poor one hour allocated time he / she will give you, especially if you are into history, defense, and just stunning scenery in general.

This tour was great because it gave us a taste for several villages and sites. Our tour guide May was great. She was very friendly and informative.

Since this was my first trip to France and I didn't have a car, this was a fantastic way to see small villages in Provence, experience a street market, and see the countryside. I loved the whole trip and our guide was wonderful. We packed a lot in for one day, and it was worth the price!

Great tour, worth doing and you see a lot. The villages were lovely but plenty of tourists, the Roman bridge was great._br/_ The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgable.

Excellent tour with so much crammed in to one day. Unfortunately there was just too much going on in the different places and we could have stayed in each place for twice as long. Be aware that the first village you see has a market on a Sunday. We must have only see a third of it in the short time there. Wish we had had longer. Every village was beautiful. Gave us a taster of what we could go back and see if we had time. Would highly recommend.

Of all the small provincial french towns this tour takes you to, our favourite was Les Baux, but felt we didn't have enough time to see the castle ruins at the top thoroughly... We felt a bit rushed here. However at all the other sites/towns we felt we had ample time! The tour guide Sylvainne was very friendly and knowledgeable. You get to see a lot in 1 day with this tour ..Highly recommend to see the most of provence in 1 day without having to do the driving yourself!

Fabulous tour we'd recommend to everyone! Julien was amazing and provided everything we could have hoped for. This was a day we also didn't want to end. He had so much information..... answered knowledgable and thoroughly all our questions. The sites we visited were so unique.... we could never have done it so efficiently and so well.

The morning was a 2 the afternooon was a 5. Mornign was too rushed. I would suggest telling people to grab a to go lunch instead of having to spend the precious time we had inLes Baux waiting forfood. We did not even stop in St Remy as the tour said we would. Too much time at the arc. Then we had to wait at the train station for 45 mnutes for two persons who were joining us, this should not have happened and made everyone else a bit upset at eh amount of time taken from our tour. The afternoon was beautiful and perfect time for each stop. The lavendar fields were gorgeous.

The tour wars supposed to be great but not much information from our guide. He acted more like a driver getting us from point a to point B. Didn and #39;t also recommend any highlight to focus our independent tour of the places. The only good thing was we were able to see a small lavender field.

This is the best tour I and #39;ve ever done! You see beautiful small cobblestone towns, have lots of time to wander around, and don and #39;t have to worry about how to get one from place to another. I was skeptical because of the duration and the price, but have no regrets and find it worthwhile! Just loved it!

This was a wonderful tour, a full 10 hour day but we saw a lot and did not feel rushed at anytime. Highlights were the Lavender museum, towns of Roussillon and Gordes, and the Pont du Gard. Our driver/guide was very friendly and good, but more commentary while at the towns/sites would have improved the experience. This tour is a great way to get an appreciation of Provence in a day, highly recommended.

The itinerary was modified a bit from what was published, but it hit all the right places. Late May is a great time to visit Provence. Van was full but still comfortable. Unfortunately, our tour guide was new-ish and English was her third language. Her inexperience became evident as the day went on she had a difficult time handling traffic issues closed route for local festival and communicating the correct time and place to regroup. Her knowledge of the sites was good we just had to listen very carefully.

Picked up from our hotel in Avignon at 09:00 by Victorine sorry if not spelled correctly, very efficient, polite and friendly. Really interesting, knew about a lot of subjects in depth. Stopped at the market at Isle sur la Sorgue, pity only had an hour, could have spent most of the day here, most fantastic market and pretty town. Also visited the lavender factory, which was really interesting, shame the lavender fields were not in bloom. Next stop was Roussillon, will definately go back here again, then on to Gordes and Beaux de Provence, both really picturesque, and a brief photo stop at the Roman ruins at St Remy. Last stop was the Roman aquaduct, Pont du Gard, amazing engineering. Finally reached our hotel 10 hours later after a fantastic tour of the surrounding countryside. Really enjoyable, got a good overview of the region and saw some fantastic places to visit next time.

I was a little conflicted on my rating as Provence is amazing and the places we went to were incredible. After the end of the day of rushing here and there to get it all in I really felt like I needed more time at each venue. If you only have a certain amount of time to see a lot then this is a possible option but I really felt rushed and didn't even have time to sit for lunch and grabbed a sandwich in a café in Gordes and kept walking so as to have time to see it. The most we had was 1 hr to see the village / site and in Gordes we had about an 1 1/2 hr, none of the time allotments were near enough. The guide did drop us off at the village centers so that saved a few minutes in each place and we did stop by a couple road side picture ops during the day's drive. _br/_ Here's where it gets a little negative.. Our driver was very polite, kind and considerate but... her overall command of the English language was not good and you really had to pick out words to put the whole topic together, she did keep asking if we were all listening since none of the 7 of us asked questions or commented as we were trying to follow the conversation. I'm using the term driver because I really didn't feel like we had a guide during the trip, by the time she dropped us off at the villages, went back to park, the time was up and we were back in the van to the next venue so we got little info on the places we went to and nothing on the history and what to really focus in on while we were there. We were able to pick up some info from other guides and stalked their group to get the high lights. The villages and sites we visited were amazing in themselves in architecture and vistas so in the time we had we focused on that but I would suggest that guests of this tour do their homework ahead of time and know what to focus on during the time you have at each stop. This is a quick overview of a lot of venues, villages and history so be prepared to move quickly and to spend a fair amount of time in the van getting from location to location. Provence is Amazing so do see it but in hindsight I personally would have split it in parts or days to get more out of the trip.

This was a wonderful tour, quite an ambitious itinerary, 10 hour day but full of wondrous sites. The highlights were the market at L'Isle-sue-la-Sorque, Roussillon, Gordes, Les Baux-de-Provence, the last three being ancient hillside villages with magnificent views and charming settings. Julia, our guide was charming and very knowledgeable of the area. I wished more time could have been spent in each area. I sure got my money's worth.

I have to firstly mention the tour company that runs these tours. They were tremendous. I was travelling solo, out of season, and by law french government requires a minimum of 2 bookings. This tour company not only kept in good communication with me, but they also upgraded me to the Le Grand Tour which already had occupants. That tour incorporated everything from this tour plus a bit extra. This tour company really ensured I got to see everything during my stay._br/_ Now for the tour, it was sensational. This or the Le Grand Tour, you are going to see some amazing sites. I went in March and there wasn't a lot of people around and you felt like a local.... and got to see everything.

This was a wonderful experience. Our guide was informative and very interesting and the entire day was planned quite well...a stop at a lavender factory, then a trip to Rousillon where we had time to leisurely see the town, then she drove us to Gordes and gave us many tips on what to do and see...we had time for lunch here. We stopped in St. Remy to see the Roman ruins and then we drove to Pont du Gard where we had enough time for coffee and a leisurely walk up to the bridge to explore. It was a good day.

We had a really good day and saw much that was interesting and delightful. Although our mini-van was rather cosy for 8 adults and the driver, that led to us getting to know our fellow-travellers during the trip and made the day even better. If half stars were available we'd give the trip four and a half stars out of five.

This is a long day but covers a lot of stuff. We did everything on the itinerary. Our guide was knowledgable and able to give tips on many things in the area. There were plenty of photo opportunities and enough breaks off the bus to make sure we enjoyed a lovely sunny day. It's certainly a good introduction to the area.

It was a very long day as we suspected it would be. Our driver/guide, was very pleasant, and gave a brief description of what we were going to see during our various stops. However once there at an attraction, or village we were on our own. Having been on Insight coach tours, I missed the extended dialogue and commentary as to what we were seeing. Also, our driver had to return to our starting point in Avignon to pick up a passenger who was only taking a half-day tour, thus losing some time. I think in order to do justice to these wonderful provencial towns and villages, the tour should be offered over two days. For example: north and south Provence, or east and west. Then it wouldn't be so rushed at the attractions, and not so long in the van.

There are a lot of tours from Avignon to the Provence region and it is hard to decide which combination of places to visit so they don't overlap with others. I found this to be a very good way to highlight many places in a single day. It was just enough time in each location so I didn't feel as if our time was wasted. The small van of 6 people was ideal and our guide Emilie was terrific. She was also the driver as well as the guide and yet she always was enthusiastic and interesting in her remarks, despite the hot day and extensive driving. There are a lot of scenic opportunities on this trip, so be sure to bring a good camera!

Really enjoyed our day with Maude. She was a great guide and knew so much about the area. It was nice to leave the driving and parking! into the several villages we visited to someone else! This way we could just focus on discovering. The only downside is that there was very little time in Gordes for lunch 45 minutes is not long enough and we probably would have preferred to skip Les Baux de Provence as it is very touristic.
