Small-Group Guided Day-Trip to the Camargue from Avignon
Avignon, France
Discover the Camargue and its surprising wildlife: You will be driven in a comfortable minivan and see wild horses and pink flamingos, rice fields and salt pans. The sites you will visit: Mejanes Estate, which is a typical Camargue farm; Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer, an important pilgrimage destination for travelers on the Mediterranean Sea; Aigues-Mortes, a wonderful Medieval town, surrounded by warmly colored salt pans; and lastly a winery, where you will taste the wine of Camargue.
Discover the huge delta of the Rhône river and its surprising wildlife, from wild horses to pink flamingos.
Your first stop will be Mejanes Estate, a typical Camargue farm, where you can explore the local flora and fauna simply on foot or on a tourist train (ticket not included). In winter the site might be closed, in this case it will be replaced with a horse ride in the Camargue Regional Park (ticket not included).
Next, drive to Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer, which is an important pilgrimage destination for travelers – you can opt for a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean Sea or a stroll on the lively streets of the village.
Afterwards, visit Aigues-Mortes, and travel back to the Middle Ages in this wonderful fortified town, surrounded by warmly colored salt pans.
Lastly, try the wine of Camargue, before being driven back to your hotel in Avignon.
Very good guiding! Unfortunately at the Camargue area there were not so much different birds for the moment, but we saw several times the most important of them: Flamingoes!

We were keen to make this trip while staying in Avignon as it would give us a convenient opportunity to see something of the Camargue area. The hotel pick-up and travel was fine but overall the trip was a bit disappointing, in that the Camargue 'farm' albeit with bulls did not allow us to see anything much by way of wildlife - white horses, pink flamingoes etc. We enjoyed the visit to Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer, where we had lunch and a chance to see the town and walk on the beach, but the time in Aigues-Mortes, which was very pretty, was a bit short to do justice to it, once we had taken a walk on the town walls. However, the wine tasting which concluded the tour was well presented and enjoyable.

This is an excellent tour, and it was great to see the black bulls, and the white horses. The running of the bulls takes place on a Sunday mid-day, and is not to be missed.

We covered a lot on our tour, and enjoyed visiting a Camargue ranch and riding on a ferry. Our guide gave us the name of an excellent restaurant in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
