Kata Tjuta Sunrise and Valley of the Winds Half Day Trip

Kata Tjuta Sunrise and Valley of the Winds Half Day Trip

Ayers Rock, Australia

In your small group travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and commence the walk to the Valley of the Winds, heading first to the Karu lookout. With views across the many domes of Kata Tjuta and out into the sacred Anangu men’s area, you’ll be in awe of this natural wonder.

Sit back and relax as you travel into the amazing Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park. The scenery along the way will amaze you, and with luck, you may even see some of the local wildlife such as dromedary camels and kangaroos.

On your journey, your experienced driver guide will share fascinating stories of the geology, history and culture of Kata Tjuta, which is deeply sacred to the local Anangu people.

Kata Tjuta, simply translated, means "heads many". Given the 36 steep-sided domes of Kata Tjuta, it is aptly named. This incredible formation of rock domes extends 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) into the ground and is the remains of erosion that began more than 500 million years ago. The area is sacred under Anangu men’s law, of which, details of many stories of Kata Tjuta are not known except to initiated men.

Watch the spectacular sunrise over Kata Tjuta with Uluru in the distance from the western dune viewing area, with light breakfast included.

Begin your guided walk through Valley of the Winds, heading first to the Karu lookout. With views across the many domes of Kata Tjuta and out into the sacred Anangu men’s area, you’ll be in awe of this natural wonder. Next stop is the Karingana lookout. This walk can be a little challenging, but well worth the effort. It takes you down into a timeless haven within the domes through trickling creek beds. At times of extreme heat the walk may not be available, but will be substituted with an alternative walk.

Shorter walks are also available for those not wanting to walk to the second lookout.

This was a great tour. Be aware that it is quite strenuous (especially if it’s raining). Take a hat, water, bug repellant, and sunscreen.

This tour was the best of the tours that I di in Ayers Rock! Geoff and Trys were our guides and they were very knowledgeable and made the morning tour an awesome experience. Id do this tour over Uluru any day!

A well organised tour which ran smoothly. Well informed tour guides who made it interesting as well as fun. A good choice of walks, with a good breakfast bag and hot drinks on arrival at the sunrise spot. A great sunrise with fantastic photo opportunities.

This tour experience was a very nice experience. Firstly, the Sunrise is absolutely stunning. You can see both Uluru and Kata Tjutacloser when the sun rises. Beautiful! The Valley of the Winds tour was definitely different. Lot of walking but just enough. Not too much, nor too little. I just thought, the second lookoutfinal destination was not as the best as I expected it to be. I felt like the view was a bit closed up, but still very nice. Highly recommend this tour if you have the time. If you don't, definitely at least the Kata Tjuta Sunrise!!

Great tour by AATkings. Caught Kuta Tjuta sunrise just in time. The hot chocolate served as we left the bus really helped warm us up for the cold winter morning. The guides were also knowledgeable about the trails to the various look out points. Definitely recommend this tour.

We started off bright and early to watch the beautiful sunrise. AAT get out to the lookout point earlier than the other tours, so we had front row views. Breakfast and hot drinks were offered here and were very enjoyable. David was our guide and Jess, our driver. David's knowledge of the geology, flora, fauna and stories off the area, was second to none. He knew everything about the history of the Anangu people and our wonderful land. The actual walk was beautiful, but very rocky in parts, due to the geology. Jess was happy to take some of the people on the tour, to a less difficult walk, but just as impressive .David walked with the others pointing out every manner of interesting things and imparting many interesting facts. It wasn't a race ,so you could walk at a comfortable pace, however for some reason the group I was with blitzed it. I loved every minute of this tour and highly recommend it!!!!! In fact, I loved everything about Yulara and learnt so much in the 4 days I was there!!!!! Thank you

The most emotionally charged sunrise ever experienced, followed closely by an amazing walk into the heart of Kata Tjuta. Highly recommended from all aspects, The guides, the sounds and the venue. Brilliant and thank you.

We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion, which started with watching the moon set and the sun rise at a vantage point where we could see both Kata Tjuta and Uluru. Just breathtaking! From there we drove to Kata Tjuta and walked into a valley grotto. We climbed higher onto massive rocks and made it to a high promontory with a fantastic view. This is a magical place. Our guide Tasha was informative and helpful and our driver was witty. Had a great morning!

The view was spectacular and the AAT Kings tour was well organised and highly recommended. Just be prepared for the wind, the area is very windy all the time. We went in late May and it was so chilly because of the wind.

Before I begin my remarks, I want to make it clear that they have nothing to do with Viator's service. We had the misfortune of visiting Ayers Rock during the torrential rains on Dec 25 and 26, 2016. This tour was amended, meaning we did not get off the bus, and did not meet our expectations. If you book with Viator, choose another tour operator as AAT Kings does not make the customer's experience a priority.

Two guides were excellent. However, we feel the sites in Ayers Rock are not magnificent enough to warrant a trip to the middle of the country and getting up in the middle of the night. If you do go, this company provided as good a tour as possible.

I would not climb over all the rocks. They will disintegrate. The guide was disappointed there were not more people. There were enough.

what an amazing place and in fact more scenic than Uluru. Charlie was awesome and had some interesting knowledge about the region.

We had a very interesting day with Michael and Dave from AAT Kings. We went to the sun rise over Kata Tjuta and Uluru, enjoyed a nice packed breakfast and went on to walk up into the Valley of the Winds. Micheal pointed out plants and trees of significance to the local Aboriginal people. This was the best tour we took part in the Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park. Highly recommendable, dont miss it!

Very well organised tour. The sunrise was spectacular and breath taking. Our tour guide Thomas and driver Andrew were very friendly and funny. Thomas introduced a lot of interesting information and knowledge during the trip. We were told one of the walking track was much harder than the other option. Almost give up, but stopped by my 8yo daughter. Yes, the pebbles and loose stones make the track rocky and wobbling. You need steady and flexible joints to cope with it. However, not only my daughter made it successfully, along the trip I also saw elderly people with hiking sticks, fashion travellers with fancy daily boots, many young ages all managed to the lookout. So, maybe sometimes we don't know our limits. But, yes, the pebbles need to be paid much attention to. ALERT

The tour guides were both great - very knowledgeable and they took great care of us in the heat. Cold clothes were appreciated. Too hot so we were not able to do the long walk, but the two shorter ones were fine, too. Scenery is spectacular - good to see both major rock formations in the area. Although the snacks were marginal, the beer and wine at the end as we waited for the Sunset was a nice touch.

This was a standout of our trip. The tour guides were really lovely, and you could tell they genuinely loved their jobs. I will always remember this sunset - it was breathtaking.

Great tour with excellent guide and driver providing us with lots of interesting facts about the rocks, wildlife, vegetation and the aborigine culture/beliefs._br/_ The sunset experience was great with champagne and nibbles on offer, we enjoyed this far better than at Ayers Rock._br/_ The guide and driver also were extremely attentive and ensured we were comfortable in the heat, there was iced water available to top up our water bottles and we were kept cool on the bus in between stops._br/_ Do not miss this tour if you can help it._br/_ Thanks.
