Uluru Base and Sunset Half Day Trip with Optional Outback Barbecue Dinner

Ayers Rock, Australia

Join your Guide for a drive around the base of Uluru. Continue to the Kuniya Walk where you will be escorted to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Enjoy a glass of wine and canapes while watching the sun set over Ayers Rock.

Travel around the base of Uluru in the comfort of your coach as your Driver Guide provides commentary about the numerous sacred sites and features to be found at Uluru.

Continue to the Kuniya Walk where your Driver Guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide points out some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru.

Later visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts.

In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking color changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine.

If option selected, you will then be transferred to the Aussie BBQ site. The site is within the Uluru National Park, adjacent to Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre set amongst red sand dunes and desert oak trees providing a peaceful desert setting. The site is located far enough away from the resort lights to provide a clear view of the stars in the southern sky (weather permitting).

Once at the site, you will enjoy a variety of Australian meats and salads, accompanied by a glass of wine, beer or orange juice (menus are subject to change). After dinner, tea, coffee and dessert will be served and your guide will conduct a tour of the night sky, describing and pointing out some of the visible constellations with the assistance of a high beam spotlight (weather permitting). The guide will also explain some Aboriginal stories that relate to the stars before you return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Review by:   Lubomir I,    July 2018 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
This was an ok trip. Frankly, it would have been better if I had rented a car and drove around myself. The driver and tour guide were very kind and friendly, but didn't really add any more info than we already got from the visitor's center. I had opted for the BBQ dinner afterwards - that was a mistake. The food was ok, but the weather was freezing cold July, and in the end everyone huddled under the few gas-lamps to keep warm. The BBQ could be a nice option in the summer, but in the winter, I wouldn't recommend it.

Fabulous trip with a good guide - we stopped at a couple of places for photo opportunities and information about the rock carvings and formations. Then did a great base walk which came with explanations about the flora and the the rock carvings and the stories associated with this part of the rock. It was really interesting. Being near the rock was moving.

We were expecting the sunset to be behind the Rock. Didn't really have much of an effect, but overall, the tour was good and well run.

No sunset but amazing photos of waterfalls on the rock. Apparently very few people experience this, just beautiful.

Outstanding in every way! This was the perfect way to see Ayers Rock. The guides were extremely knowledgable. We walked in to two areas, went to the cultural center, drove around the entire base, had a sunset cocktail hour, fabulous Aussie Bar-b-cue complete with kangaroo and all you care to drink, then a star talk and orientation which was beyond spectacular and even a fiery meteor shot across the sky to complete our night!

Great tour and history facts about the area. Appetizers at sunset, BBQ dinner and star gazing activities that followed the walkabout was very good. Good tour - highly recommend it. Note: AAT King tour guides not ours but we overheard a conversation at the sunset appetizers activity should not disparage another tour company when they do not offer the same type of tour. We went on a tour with this other tour company the next day as AAT KING did not have that particular tour and we loved it.

This was fabulous! Great tour guides with interesting stories. Not too much walking but enough to get all the stories and history. The barbecue was most enjoyable, wine and champagne was flowing and the food was lovely. As for the stars at night-well you have to see it to believe it! The guide was informative and knew a lot, even though he kept saying I am only a cook. It's a trip I would do again.

It was a very well organized tour with two very pleasant, enthusiastic tour guides. Tasia and Toni were brilliant. I was very surprised to see 5-10000 year old 'frescoes' at Uluru rock. Watching sunset at Uluru is awesome.Hiighly recommended

Ayers Rock is a sight to behold. The tour made it even better! Our guides0 were very well informed and answered all of our questions. Sunset was awesome and the wine and cheese made it even better. The barbecue was very good as well. The unexpected touch came after the barbeque when our guide gave us a tour of the night sky -- lots of fun for this US resident who never had the chance to star-gaze down-under!_br/_ One tip -- flies are EVERYWHERE. I'd suggest either wearing a mosquito screen, at least over your head and face or carrying a generous supply of insect repellant or both.

Of course, Uluru itself is amazing. Spending 5 hours on a full coach bus to see it, in the middle of summer, is not so impressive. Tour guides were very knowledgable and this is the best part of this tour - being guided and being able to ask relevant questions about the Rock and its background. 45 minutes at the Cultural Centre wasn't really long enough to wander around, see exhibits and possibly purchase some art work. The sunset viewing with champagne and canapés sounds very romantic, but after 5 hours of the heat and the flies, some bubbly and some dips and crackers isn't really as idyllic as its made out to be. This tour is very good for a first -time visitor who has no idea what to see. Coming back another time, a hire car and freedom would be brilliant.

Enjoyable and informative trip around the base of Uluru with several stops including the Cultural Center, which is owned and operated by by the Aboriginal Anangu people a watering hole and partial cave and the west side of the rock where other people climbed up the path - which was discouraged as Uluru is sacred to the Anangu. Our guide told us aboriginal stories and history about Uluru. The sunset view of the rock changing colors was beautiful and the food and drinks were a nice touch. The barbecue had meat and vegetarian food which was good. The star-gazing was fun even though we were there on the night of the super moon which was so bright you could not see as many stars. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Great trip, the walk was shorter than I expected which was a bonus in the heat. Mick our guide was fabulous. He had a wealth of knowledge and made the experience really come alive. Plenty of wine at the end, nibbles not so great but that is my only thing I would change. Highly recommend.

My wife and I were met by our tour bus on November 12 at 15:15 at the Desert Gardens Hotel by Ken and Toni, our tour guides from AAT Kings. We had to purchase National Park Entry Tickets which cost 25 AUD and are good for three days. We proceeded to Ayer's Rock Uluru and hiked around the base with Ken who told us about the fauna and flora of the area especially with regard to how the Anunu People made use of them for food, weapons and treatment of various ailments. At the end of the tour, the group was treated to wine, cheese and crackers as we all watched the sunset over Ayer's Rock. For those of us who had also paid for the barbecue dinner, we got on another bus and were taken to the tourist center where we were served a nice dinner including beer and wine._br/_ As most everything has to be brought to Ayer's Rock, food prices were high.

Really nice afternoon trip taking us to the cultural center and a walk around part of the base of Uluru. This was followed by a terrific BBQ of unlimited wine, beer, grilled chicken, steaks, kangaroo, and a multitude of sides. Tour guides were terrific. I'd recommend

Interesting and informative, one guide more engaging in his story telling. Only down side was a mix up about which was our refreshment table. Nibbles and dips provided and plenty of bubbly! Good, I'd recommend it, especially if you can't walk too far.

Great explanations of indigenous beliefs and flora and fauna by Michael our guide. Colours of Uluru at sunset sensational with relaxed ambience created by drinks and nibbles as well as stools to sit on._br/_ Steaks expertly cooked to our liking at the barbecue with plenty of other tucker and salads to go with.

The guides were great, lots of interesting info. They were generous with the wine at sunset but set your expectations low regarding the and #39;canapes and #39;. Worth the extra money compared to hiring a car and doing it yourself.

My sister and I made this booking as a last minute idea when we realised that the others tours we had taken didn't really get us up close to Ayers Rock, having seen it from the vantage of a helicopter and at sunset on comeback. With less than a day remaining of our stay in Uluru, we decided to see what was available in the limited time we had remaining. We didn't regret one minute of this tour. It truly gave us the "complete" Ayers rock experience and we now have unforgettable memories that we have already shared with our family and friends. I would recommend this tour to anyone coming to Uluru.
