Uluru Camel Express, Sunrise or Sunset Tours

Ayers Rock, Australia

Contemplate how the outback pioneers traveled across regions of Australia on a camel tour with an expert guide. Choose from sunrise, sunset or express camel rides against the backdrop of Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Kata Tjuta. Watch the desert come to life in the early morning, or choose a later ride to see the changing colors of Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta at dusk. If you’re short on time, take a morning or afternoon express camel ride for a taste of central Australia’s traditional transport. Along the way, your expert cameleer provides information about the desert’s wildlife and ecology, and shares their passion and respect for camels, the ‘ships of the desert,’ which played a vital role in opening up central Australia’s remote outback regions.

Gaze at UNESCO World Heritage-protected Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) in the distance as you roam the central Australian desert on a camel with your guide. Listen carefully as a cameleer shares interesting details about the Australian outback and your hump-backed travel companions.

Camels are ideally suited to the hot, dry climate of Australia's interior. Imported here in the 19th century, they remained the principal means of outback transport until railways and roads were established. Today there are an estimated 200,000 one-humped, dromedary camels in the wild. Though few camels are used by humans today, this herd is treated like family, each one has its own pet name and personality. With a breathtaking view of Uluru as your backdrop, this relaxed, slow-paced camel ride is the perfect way to experience the fascinating ecology of the desert.

Sunrise camel ride (2.5 hours)
Ride across the desert on a peaceful 1-hour camel ride through stunning sand dune country with the awe-inspiring sight of Uluru and Kata Tjuta as your backdrop. Take in the cool morning air and watch as the rising sun lights up Uluru and the surrounding plains. Learn about the landscape and fauna from your expert cameleer, and enjoy billy tea and freshly baked beer bread (damper) with quandong jam (outback native fruit) after the ride.

Sunset camel ride (2.5 hours)
Take a 1-hour camel ride at dusk to see the outback colors deepen as the sun sets behind the desert plains, sharpening the monolithic outlines of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Return to the camel farm at twilight to enjoy drinks and outback food, including freshly baked beer bread (damper).

Morning or Afternoon Camel Express (1.5 hours)
For a shorter camel ride, cross the desert on a 45-minute express camel trip for views of Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the outback landscape. Hear interesting facts about the local flora and fauna, and visit the camel museum to learn about the important role played by camels over the centuries in outback Australia.

The afternoon express ride is seasonal and only operates from April to October.

Great Tour. The guides were very informative. The camels were extremely docile and well behaved. Taking individual well framed pictures of each camel and riders was outstanding. The culmination of the tour with beverages and snacks was more than we could have hoped for.

What a beautiful evening for a sunset tour on a camel! Tony picked us up from our accommodation and we knew in an instant it was going to be fun! All the Staff at the Camel Farm were very friendly and informative, including Lucy, who lead the camels. We were given a brief safety talk, which not only included our safety, but the camels as well. The wlk through the scrub and sand dunes was beautiful, listening out for the birds and any other animals, with Uluru in the back ground. Tony walked along beside us, imparting soooooo many interesting facts about the camels, the history of the area and the flora and fauna. The sun set in a ball of orange, as we made our way back to the camel farm. It was very peaceful and relaxing sitting atop these gentle giants. Once back at the farm, we enjoyed drinks and yummy nibbles, including some superb damper. You are invited to but photos of the trip, either on a CD, or USB, which I most definitely bought, as a momento of the trip. I would highly recommend this tour for all ages and can honestly say, it was a lot of fun and informative. Thank you Tony, Lucy and all the Staff.

This was a fabulous experience. When we arrived after being picked up at our hotel, the camels were all ready and sitting calmly in a row. How cute they were. As the cameleers told us about the mounting and riding, the camels remained calm. Once we were atop the camels our ride began. What fun it was to actually ride a camel. They are comfortable and easy to ride. As we rode along we could pet and rub their camel hair which stuck out through the saddle, they seemed to enjoy that. We thoroughly enjoyed the commentary as we rode along which informed us about the area and the camels. It was a highlight of our trip. Linda B

Loads of fun. We had a beautiful afternoon on Cable beach, and enjoyed the gorgeous sunset. Guides were accommodating, happily taking photos as we traveled down the 17kms of beach. Professional photo packages available and very reasonable.

Didn and #39;t get picked up. Lady on the phone was super rude. There are also so many other fun and less expensive activites. Go and do something else instead.

It was a lot of fun! The camel handlers were really good. I expected the camels to spit or be really smelly and they were not. Well behaved, which was good, because they got up close and personal with the person riding in the back! Would definitely recommend to others.

I didn't know much about the camels of Australia until I did the Uluru Camel Express tour. It was a blast, educational and fun. The beauty of the desert and Ayers Rock at sunset is awesome, and because their professional photographer takes pictures of your journey it makes for a fantastic souvenir. Bonus was the free local beer at the end of the tour.

It was an early start for the sunrise tour but well worth it. Be sure to wrap up well in the winter months it was very cold. The hour was brilliant, very informative and lots of photo opportunities. I could have stayed out there for hours. Would love to see full day tours start up there, I would be first in the queue._br/_ All staff were very helpful an friendly.

One of the best tours we took while on vacation in Australia. The cameleers were very informative and provided a great commentary to our tour, including a wealth of information and history regarding this fascinating area. The camel tour was really nicely paced with wonderful scenery. Would highly recommend this tour experience. Riding a camel turned out to be very easy and comfortable -- in large part because of the work of the cameleers. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

This was the highlight of my Outback experience! I took the express tour 50mins due to availability issues I encountered and it was really great! As a GoT fan I thought I was riding a dragon! LOL! The ride was fantastic and made me appreciate the desert, nature and Ayer's rock itself! Cory the tour guide is very knowledgeable and accommodating! Highly recommended!

We did the sunset tour and I couldn't give a higher recommendation for anyone visiting Uluru. The cameleers were fantastic, very informative and friendly and not to mention the comedy. After our ride, they provided some damper with locally sourced ingredients and added caramelized bush tomato balsamic with wild dukkah from the surrounding bush, all topped off with a cold bevi. It was a great experience and a must do for any traveller staying here in Yulara.
