Bali Pura Luhur Batukaru Temple and Cultural Small Group Tour

Bali, Indonesia

This minibus tour will take you on a scenic drive 'off-the-beaten-track' with time to stop and appreciate the tranquil beauty of Bali, enjoying a personalized service for a maximum of 6 people. Your guide will enlighten you on the Balinese farming traditions, and you can get back to nature with short walks into the forest, remote villages and farmland. Once past busy Denpasar, you start to explore the unspoiled countryside and villages along the backroads.

In the fertile volcanic foothills of Batukaru Mountains you'll see an abundance of tropical fruits, spices, vegetables and flowers. It is no wonder that the community here is considered Bali's farming elite. For the Balinese, cultivation of land is a creative art and a communal effort, and the people of Jatiluwih have created a true masterpiece - an endless and intricate jigsaw of finely curved rice terraces in brilliant shades of green, with glistening waters, so soothing to the eye.

Then, travelling through thick tropical forest beneath Mount Batukaru you'll reach the remote Temple of Luhur. For Balinese Hindu's, this site has special mystical powers and only the Besakih Temple is more sacred - an ideal spot to meditate! There is also a 'rest stop' at a local restaurant (meals and drinks not included).

Great all day tour. The guide and driver were so nice. It's nice being able to have someone else drive you around to the sites. So nice being able to see all the Temples and history of the country!

I was on my own for this trip so it was a very small group.I went on four trips during my stay in Bali and this was the only won which had a separate guide and driver. The guide was extremely knowledgeable if a little aloof. The temple is well worth seeing.

This tour could have been compressed to 5 hours..instead, nearly 2 hours was spent visiting 4 craft houses that were not appealing or part of the advertised tour. Two places would have been sufficient silversmith and batik...nut beware, both are overpriced. As well, the restaurant chosen by the tour operator, while it had a great view of the rice fields, had limited food choices. When we arrived at 1PM, the buffet lunch had too little choices and not much food left on the trays..yet we were still billed Rp 400,000. it would have been better to be brought to a central area and allowed to choose your own place for lunch. Or packed our own. Very disappointed in this one.

Mandara (Tour Guide) was knowledgeable but was too serious throughout the trip. Driver was pleasant and the van was clean. Despite the rainy weather- we all enjoyed. Highlight was the stop in shopping area. The restaurant in the Rice Terrace served cold food and it didn't look too clean :(

The temple was, well just like the other 20000 temples in Bali but much larger than most. Stopping off at arts and crafts manufacturers was good. The Luwak coffe and local coffee sampling was great. Rp 50000 for a cup of the worlds best coffee was a bargain for the coffee conesur.

This is an excellent half day trip. The temple was very tranquil. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get out of the central area for a few hours.

If you're looking for a low-key day in Bali learning more about their unique culture with ample opportunities for buying local handicrafts, this is the tour for you! This tour happened to be our first day in Bali and was a lovely primer into the culture of the island and the incredible scenery of the surrounding volcanoes and rice terraces. You will end up with lots of photos of green rice paddies because each time you see them from the car windows, you can't resist trying to capture the beauty. The trip to the plantation was our favorite part because we got to sample 10 different types of teas and coffees then we got to buy some to take home and brew whenever we want. Still not sure about the coffee that is produce by the feces of local mongoose, but there you have it.

Great half day tour. On our trip we were the only couple so had our own private tour. It was great to learn about the culture from a local and expand our knowledge. Gus was a great tour guide and the locations visited were stunning.

What a great tour! We were six friends traveling together and Rody our guide was incredible!!! We went to the temple and the rice fields - we even had time to stop and meditate in the Pura Luhur Batukaru Temple - any time we wanted to stop and take pictures he was so accommodating. He took us to a really nice restaurant overlooking the rice fields and we thoroughly enjoyed out day. I would absolutely recommend Viator and this tour.

This quite an amazing tour. Bali is so beautiful. The tour guide was great, Radiawan is his name. He is such a pleasing person. He was on time at the hotel. The ride to the temple was beautiful. We saw all the rice terraces. The vegetation is so green and lively. We went to the temple Pura Luhur from the 11th century._br/_ This temple is in the middle of the jungle. Not many toursit visit the temple, so you have a very peaceful tour._br/_ There was only two other groups, so we had the temple for ourselves. You could listen the birds sing and it was full of butterflies. It was a very memorable tour. The tour guide, let us meditate and sit on the altar for 15 minutes. It was wonderful. Radi went out of his way to please us. It was such a rewarding experience. It is a beautiful ride

The tour guide Rodney and the driver Su were very helpful. This was probably the best tour of my long Asia Asia trip. The temple was unique in that the visit was all about the temple ( no hawking of.many trinkets by local vendors), meditation, enchanting history along with side trips to beautiful rice fields, fine lunch across the street from a major rice field, visiting an actively habitated lovely compound, visit to a batik factory and shop. Wonderful local flavor.

Benny was a good and informative guide and our driver was excellent (roads were tricky). Visiting Batik and silver factories was interesting, as was the Luak coffee plantation. The temple was fascinating and Benny was able to answer all the questions put to him by the other couple on the tour.

Our tour of Bali was just wonderful. This was our first time using Viator tour service and we were quite please. They were on time for pick up and our guide Arya was very good, he spoke very good English and he did a super job explaining about the, people, culture and showing us around. We would use Viator again for our next trips anytime.

Unfortunately due to illness I was unable to take this tour, however I would like to thank Sandy, the guide for this trip, for his concern for my well being and I rate the tour 5 stars because of his genuine concern. It is my intention to book this tour again during my 2014 Bali trip.

The tour was great and the tour guide was really informative in telling us the culture and the attraction sites! But we asked to take us to a local restaurant for lunch, and he brought us to a typical tourists restaurant.

Good value for money as we were the only ones on the trip so had the car to oursleves. It is a long day and the roads are very bumpy and winding. I suffer from travel sickness and even my preventative measures did not help with all the swaying, stopping and starting and bumps. Felt a bit pressuered at the cultural stops as there was very little demonstration of the art, just pressurised shopping opportunity. The temple was very quiet as there were very few tourists. It was nice to see the rice terraces which is what you imagine when you think of Bali.

The rice terraces are lovely, and if you are taken to a coffee and spice plantation be sure to try the coffees and teas, they are out of this world! You can't bring coffee or black tea into Australia, but green tea, cocoa and spices are fine. The chocolate is to die for. The temples start to blur together after a while, but are always interesting. The guides will always try to accommodate any special request you may have - they are fantastic! Courteous, knowledgeable, and approachable, and they take care to ensure your comfort and safety.

The quality of the tour depends very much of the guide. Our guide for this trip was too much into bregging about his knowledge and too little into actually providing information. However, 2 days after this trip I have been to another trip with the same operator, but different guide. Our new guide, Rai A. has provided a lot of useful information and has responded to all of our questions. In conclusion, when booking tours operated by Tour East ask for Rai A. as guide, you will not be dissapointed.

Our guide was great, very respectful and caring. This was a lovely day if you want to get away from the towns and into the countryside but could end up being very similar to the Volcano trip.
