Private Tour: East Bali Highlights

Bali, Indonesia

Spend a day exploring the diverse landscape and fascinating culture of east Bali with a private local guide! You’ll visit spectacular wonders like the Tirta Gangga water palace, rice paddies and fruit plantations. This day trip showcases the best of Bali’s eastern coast, including lunch at a countryside restaurant and ancient traditions in the Aga village of Tenganan, away from the tourist crowds.

After a morning hotel pickup, set off with your private guide and driver to explore Bali’s scenic east coast. Your first destination is Sidemen, a peaceful rural area that is known for its beautiful landscapes. You’ll stop by undulating rice fields of emerald green and visit a salak plantation where you can taste Bali’s famed ‘snakeskin’ fruit, named for its scaly reddish-brown skin.

Continue your full-day exploration into the heart of Bali with a visit to the Tirta Gangga water palace. Meaning 'Water of the Ganges,' this sacred site was built in the 20th century by the last king of the Karangasem empire. Explore the many decorative ponds of the former royal palace, where tiered water fountains feature statues of mythical creatures spouting water into bathing pools surrounded by lush plant life.

Spend some time capturing great photos in the park’s tranquil gardens before a lunch stop at Tirta Ayu restaurant, which serves Indonesian dishes and boasts beautiful views of the countryside.

After your meal, your private driver takes you south, passing through the seaside town of Candidasa as you make your way to your last stop: the Aga village of Tenganan. This village is home to Bali’s first inhabitants, who arrived before the Majapahit dynasty of Java populated the island. Your guide points out the village’s distinct architecture with residential structures based around a compound where you can observe traditional ikat (batik textiles) and basket weavers at work.

After the village tour, your driver follows the coastal road back to southern Bali with drop-off at your hotel in the late afternoon.

The tour guide was amazing he tailored the excursion to us as we had already done some bits with other tours and didn and #39;t rush us at all. In terms of value for money this by far the best one we did you see so much and was one of the cheapest I highly recommend it

Our guide was nice, but he didn't know the itinerary and fought with the driver over it. After some phone calls he finally figured out where we were going...kind of. We took this tour from Ubud and it is 2.5 hours of pretty heavy traffic, and the driver for whatever reason was agitating my motion sickness. To the point we had to get out for a breather. _br/_ The first town we went to was a tourist trap where we were lead around to see the arts and crafts in which you encouraged not directly by the tour guide luckily to buy the goods. It was the kind of place that had 5 stalls selling palm panels. It was kind of sad actually. _br/_ The second place we went to was I believe the wrong spot. It was a plantation and supposed to be near Mt. Agung but our guide didn't know much about this place and said he wasn't sure either. _br/_ The third place was Tirta Gangaa was actually a nice place, not huge or probably worth the hassle we went through, but worth a look if you can. We had lunch, which was included, and decent however the tuna was cooked pretty thoroughly and not great. The menu was a set menu._br/_ I would only book this tour if you are in East Bali. I would confirm the itinerary and bring an extra itinerary as backup we did not. Be prepared to reject a couple invitations to coffee plantations, or silver/woodworking places, which are essentially tourist traps where you are obligated to buy at the end. _br/_ There are probably other better tours out there for east Bali. I gave this two stars instead of one because it is pretty cheap at 40 a head and I don't think the guides were purposely trying to torture us.
