3-Day Nan Tour: The Hidden Gem of North Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand
Far from the beaten tourist path, Nan visitors relish its remoteness, natural beauty and beautiful old architecture. Its relative isolation gives it a tranquility and tropical lushness no longer found in many popular Northern provinces. Our version of 3 days Nan Exploration is a discovery of rural authenticity and a spot-on depiction of life’s quiet moments.
Day 1 Bangkok – Nan We will pick you up from your hotel in Bangkok and transfer you to Bangkok airport for your flight to Nan (domestic tickets from and to Nan are not included in the program).
Upon arrival at Nan, your guide and driver await you at the airport. Before we head off for our afternoon excursion, we include lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we start with our Nan exploration by a visit to Nan National Museum. The museum display exhibitions relating to the city’s history and major structures, evolution of local art at different ages, and numerous ancient objects. Continue your visit at Wat Phumin, famous for its ancient mural wall paintings called Pu Man-Ya Man, in Thai Lu style. Conclude with an overnight stay at a hotel in Nan.
Day 2 - Nan Rise and shine! An early start in the morning is a wonderful chance to make merit with the monks. Thai Buddhists believe that by making merit, they earn happiness, peace in life, and the chance to progress in their next life. This sacred experience creates a harmonious way to start the day for all. Return to the hotel for breakfast.
After breakfast, we leave Nan and head to Wat Nong Bua, an ancient temple built by Thai Lue who migrated from Sib Song Pan Na Province in South China. This temple is famous for its mural paintings that reflect the social status of people during that time.
Continue onward to Doi Phuk Ka National Park and see the amazing scenic point called Lan Do Dao (translated as Stargazing Field) located among the primeval forest. This park is also home to the fossilized Phu Ka Tree as well as unusual flowers that bloom only in February.
Lunch will be given en route at a local restaurant before we meander further into the Bo Klua district, an important salt production region of Nan. Nan has historically been a large source of exported rock salt in the northern portion of Thailand. It is fascinating to watch an activity that is still done exactly the same way as it was for hundreds of years.
Day 3 Nan - Bangkok We say goodbye to the hotel staff and depart to yet another important sight that cannot be missed. The Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng is a sacred place for worship, situated on the eastern side of the Nan River. From here, we head back to Nan Airport for your flight back to Bangkok (domestic tickets from and to Nan are not included in the program).
After arriving at Bangkok Airport, a transfer will occur from the airport to your Bangkok Hotel.
