Bangkok Food Tour

Bangkok, Thailand

This Bangkok food walking tour serves up fifteen tastings of delectable Thai dishes and drinks! Follow your entertaining guide to hidden culinary gems in the historical neighborhood of Bang Rak, the ‘village of love,’ as you discover the community and its cuisine. Stop at food stalls as well as a wet market, grocery, sweet shop and a royal Thai restaurant. You’ll sample handpicked specialties, savory bites and sweet treats that satisfy your palate with authentic Thai flavors. Limited to 10 people, this small-group tour provides a personalized experience.

Meet your guide at Saphan Taksin BTS Station in the morning and start out on foot through the Bang Rak district of Bangkok. Meaning ‘village of love’ in Thai, Bang Rak is a popular neighborhood for couples to register their marriages, but the area also serves up a delectable selection of tasty bites. You’ll stop at approximately eight venues for 15 tastings, so be sure to arrive hungry!
From the skytrain station, stroll through Bang Rak’s backstreets to hidden gems. Visit a nearby street vendor selling curry puffs to sink your teeth into. Around the corner lies the Bang Rak Bazaar were you can sip Thai iced tea or coffee en route to a stall selling curry paste.
Learn about this culinary staple and discover ancient regional recipes before heading to Bangkok’s second oldest wet market, which features a wide array of meat and produce. Bite into a sample of Thai fruits and discover a range of tropical tastes as you master the art of fruit selection.
With a small group you’ll gain intimate knowledge of the neighborhood’s history, culture and cuisine from your experienced guide, including a stop at a local Chinese grocery, located in a traditional shophouse. Try Chinese herbal drinks with unique medicinal properties, followed by a visit to a nearby roast duck stall. At this family-run establishment started in 1909, share plates of fried and roasted chicken noodles topped with egg.
Walk down narrow winding lanes to a traditional Thai sweet shop and enjoy five treats from a scrumptious dessert platter. Just save some room for som tam (green papaya salad) at a favorite local eatery that specializes in more than 20 different varieties. Try a couple of versions as well as larb, a delicious minced meat salad from northern Thailand.
Get a taste of flavorful Thai curry at your last stop: a traditional royal Thai restaurant run by descendants of the royal family. Savor regional flavors and learn how the spicy tastes of Thai cuisine are properly mixed together.
Your tour ends at an easily reached BTS Station, with your guide on hand to provide directions to your next destination. After experiencing first-hand the sights, smells and flavors in the heart of Bang Rak, you’ll have the confidence to explore on your own from here.
Please Note: Participating venues and menu items may be substituted due to seasonal and/or unexpected circumstances on any given day.

Greatly enjoyed this tour. It was a lot of food and we greatly enjoyed trying all the food. The walk wasn't an issue - it helped to walk some of the food down to eat more and see the city up close. Bella, our tour guide was awesome. She was knowledgeable, funny, and good at her job. It was great that she took pictures and sent them to us which was a very nice touch. We had a great group which made the tour even better. I recommend this tour and Bella!

We had been in Bangkok for a few days before we went on this trip and were leaving for other parts of Thailand the next day. The tour was amazing and set us up to understand Thai food better and know how to eat Thai food, what types of food items we might light to eat more of, and the history of various foods in Thailand. The guide was great, our group were strangers before but not after the tour, and the local food purveyors were wonderful! Would highly recommend this trip to anyone!!

We had a great morning with our guide, Katy. We sampled some street food, some restaurant food and had some experiences truly eating like a native! Katy was knowledgeable about the food, the history of the area and the restaurants. We discovered some small eateries of Bangkok that we would never have found on our own and ate some truly delicious and interesting food. Katy promised that, during our 3 1/2 hour tour, we would learn about Bag Rak, learn about some food and be full! She scored a 3/3!

The Foodtour in Bangkok was amazing. The guide was great and gives us a lot of interesting information. He showed us great places and also behind alleys. The food was delicous! Everything works and was on time. It was a perfect evening for us. We would recommend it and would do the tour again - just because it's absolutly fun!

Review by:   Kimberly C,    March 2018 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
This food tour was just OK - we took the night version of the tour, and nearly half of the vendors were closed. The day version of the tour seems to have gotten decent reviews, but on the night version we got a limited tour with no substitutions for the closed food stops. This would have been really good to know beforehand, as we would not have taken this tour. If there had been comparable alternative stops (or any additional stops at all), it would have made a huge difference. As it was, I do not recommend this tour and think the tour company was remiss, if not dishonest, in not being up-front with the closings of tour stops at night.

You do get good seating at venues that would be difficult otherwise. But this is mostly old-old-school Chinatown food, greasy and undistinguished. And you must expect an authentic, hot, muggy, uncomfortable Bangkok Chinatown experience. The guide was pleasant but didn't add a lot of info.

Tamie was GREAT fun! Talented, informative, with a sense of humor to make the trip extra fun. Lots of food. She also took a lot of photos and promised to send them to us so that we don't have to try to take a selfie while trying to eat our street food. She was also good about washing our hands with wipes and purrel-ing. Recommend.

Joker was a great guide and he managed a difficult member of the group well. We certainly eat in places we would not of ventured into or near. However, unless you are really into back street street food I would not recommend it as the food was not of a high quality - or warm in some cases. Guess this depends on your own preferences. On the positive we both eat and drank the local meals and were fine the next day.

I wish we would have done this excursion earlier in our trip. My daughter and I struggled a bit at the beginning of our trip with knowing where to eat and what to eat. Our guide Tammie showed us a great time! We went to a combination of street vendors and sit-down restaurants, trying a combination of sweet and savory foods. Tammie gave us a lot of historical and cultural information, and she was really sweet and attentive to my 10 year old daughter's picky taste buds.

This tour was a great way to experience a wide variety of street food in Bangkok quickly. The amount of food was about right, such that we finished the tour feeling full but not sick.

This tour was great and you will leave sleepy and full! Bella was an incredible tour guide she went into detail about the dishes we were eating, showed us the ingredients for curry, and was overall just great company! This was the highlight of our entire 2 week trip!

Highly recommend this tour. We went to about 6 or so different places, trying several foods at each. Great, wide selection of foods, very good quality, and Thai culture, customs, and cooking were explained. Our tour guide, Katy, was superb, and was able to keep our group moving at a decent pace. Superb!

My wife and I had a really great evening on the Bangkok Food Tour, with good food and good company. Our guide, Bella, took us into areas of Bangkok Bang Rak and restaurants and sampled street food that we would never have done on our own. Her knowledge of the food was excellent and she helped make it a fun evening. Thanks Bella.

A really good tour with a combination of amazing food that will get you started on your own food journey and explanations of Thai history and culture. Make sure you go with a very empty stomach. We did and still couldn't get through all the food!

Loved this tour. Bella our guide went to a lot of trouble and gave us a fabulous experience of the local cuisine. There were 10 on our tour and Bella kept us all together through the backstreets without feeling hassled. It was such good value. Heaps of food and you see places you would never find on your own. At the same time you receive a bit of the history and culture of the country. Highly recommended.

Very nice, be careful it is a lot of food, so skip lunch. The Chinese drink was very interesting for a unique palate or someone who can not taste. The last royal restaurant green curry absolutely amazing. A great few hours of eating, we were quick walkers and tour guide was keeping up with us. she was delightful, as are the other tourguides in Thailand.

You need to be hungry for this tour! So many stops with such great food...This tour really took the cake! This tour not only allowed me to taste thailand wink wink but also taught me some of the history of the area of the restaurants we visited. Would definitely recommend this tour to everyone who is interested in experiencing thai food.

This was a lovely way to see the City and to experience the life of the real people living there. Our guide was very good. We had 12 stops and although it was very hot she maintained a reasonable pace that we could cope with. We were in a small group of only 4. We had a big variety of food and drinks. In the wet market I was pleased to be wearing closed shoes. We saw a woman mixing curry paste and the drawback was that we could not buy it as it would not have lasted until we came home. We tried a big variety of food, fruits and teas and each tasting add another layer to this vibrant city and its people. We ended off at a cool oasis which was at a restaurant which is an old house which is still used by the Royal Family. This is a gorgeous place and we left it with heavy hearts. Our tour ended close to a BST point which made it easy for us to find our way home. If i visited the city again I would do the tour again as it also gave me a different perspective on the street food.

Attended this good tour with Joker from Taste of Thailand. He lived up to his name, making jokes with my fellow friends on the tour, a couple from USA. This tour is all on foot around the Bangrak area - we sampled food from the street, a local food hall and fruit shop. The venues change according to time and availability - on my night, I was fortunate to have the best Duck and Egg Noodle at Prachak Ped Yang and a lavish Green Curry at the high class Than Ying Royal Cuisine restaurant. It was an eye opening and stomach filling experience!

Don't ask me what we ate because we ate so much and so many different food it was amazing. Guide was great at making sure we had enough to eat and that that we knew what we were eating. We had street food, fruits, and restaurant food. The tour ended at a special white tablecloth restaurant that was originally owned by royalty. The guide was knowledgeable and spoke great English. We got more than our money's worth!!

I was expecting a bit more ... only two people in the tour so that could've been a factor. We did eat in some great spots but then saw a lot of fruit stands and weird drinks. I took a tour in Vietnam and could not compare
