Bangkok Grand Palace and River of Kings Canal Cruise Small-Group Tour

Bangkok, Thailand

Enjoy the best highlights of Bangkok on this Grand Palace and River of Kings Canal small group tour. Escape the Bangkok traffic and board a longtail boat for a journey along the canals, enjoy a guided tour of the impressive Wat Pho, see the huge reclining Buddha and stand in awe of the majestic Grand Palace.

You’ll begin this Bangkok tour by hopping on a local public bus and heading over to the Grand Palace. Strolling through the palace grounds feels like walking through an Asian version of Alice in Wonderland – the buildings are so beautiful they almost don’t feel real. But bet your bottom dollar, they’re real alright! Your local guide will tell you all about the history behind the Palace and the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand, Wat Phra Kaew. This place is considered to be the spiritual centre of the nation, making it a visit that you cannot afford to miss.

From one beautiful temple to another, you’ll move on to Wat Po, another temple that is integral to the Buddhist religion in Thailand. It’s home to the infamous golden reclining Buddha and is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. This is one of the most popular things to do in Bangkok, and with our local guide to take your through the temples, you’ll hear all the secret stories and local knowledge about the place.

You’ll continue on this tour by walking down to the Chao Phraya River, or River of Kings, where you’ll board a longtail boat. The name of the river perfectly reflects this part of the tour; you’ll feel like royalty on your relaxing journey down the River of Kings! This is the reason why Bangkok is known as the ‘Venice of the East’, and you’ll explore this nickname further on this Bangkok boat tour as you glide through the network of ‘khlongs’, or canals. Many of the khlongs have been filled in over the years and converted into roads. These roads have turned into little Thai communities, and as you swoop through the waters you’ll discover insights into these little communities. This area of Bangkok feels like a world away from the busy streets and chaos, so this Bangkok canals tour is a welcome break from the bustling city centre!

Your tour will finish up as you glide back into port, from where you can continue to explore or your local guide will be happy to give you directions back to your accommodation. This tour shows you a truly unique side of the city that you won’t find on any of the other day tours in Bangkok, and it gives you the opportunity to visit both famous sights and hidden spots, exploring them through the eyes of a local.

This tour covers a lot of ground and is very tiring due to the heat and the crowds. Make sure that you take plenty of water. Our guide was very informative. Make sure that you allow plenty of time to get to the meeting point because of the Bangkok traffic.

This tour was so incredible! There were only 3 of us on the tour it was so delightful. This was our first day in Bangkok and it felt like we had a personal tour guide telling us everything we needed to know. The knowledge of the temples were exceptional and overall just a wonderful experience.

This was a good choice for us. We were only four people and the guide was excellent. She took us in to the temples without waiting and it was better to not be part of a huge group. The boat trip was nothing too special really - we didn't go into any little canals or see anything that looked traditional or old - just a big canal with some hungry fish swimming around waiting for the next tourist boat to show up with more food. I would have preferred going to see something else.

I absolutely loved this tour. We were met at a hotel near the hostel enclave by our guide, Pam, who is energetic, enthusiastic, and a real sweetheart. She took us by public bus to the pier where we toured the klongs on a longtail boat and fed the fish in front of a local wat. She handled all the transactions bus, boat, and the TukTuk ride we later took from the front of the Grand Palace back to Wat Pho, and it was very useful to witness a local navigating the city's transportation options--I lost my fear of using the bus and TukTuks thanks to her, and could probably successfully lead a friend on a klong tour the next time I make it to Bangkok. She also introduced me to the owner of a food stand/restaurant right next to my hotel that she happened to know. The tour was great, and this particular guide enriched my trip to Bangkok 100. Many thanks!

We happened to go on a day that was exceedingly crowded and hot. That said, the Grand Palace and the grounds are exquisite, and I got plenty of great pictures the Canal cruise to the Reclining Buddha was skippable.

You may want to rethink the pick up point for this trip, I couldn't get to it. Maybe somewhere near a BTS station would be more appropriate or somewhere more central.

The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and the sites were quite interesting and beautiful. However, it is a very no-frills tour - public transportation, no food, and no hotel pick-ups. Given the no frills nature, I think it is a bit overpriced. We also lost some time because some members in our group were not dressed appropriately and we had to wait while they changed. Still, worth doing.

4 things we love about this tour! 1 The guide - Our guide arrived promptly at meeting point and i asked if we could take a tuk tuk to the grand palace as my husband has never taken one and he was very kind in obliging. 2 The grand palace is gorgeously magnificent! i have been to Bangkok like over 5 times and never once thought something so beautiful was hiding in the midst of this city. 3 The reclining Buddha was huge and beautiful! 4 Loved the long-tail canal ride - it was so fun! The overall experience was just fantastic and well-worth the money.

Dangerous entry into river boat. Moving dock, moving boat, no support getting in. Fell, sustained injuries, spent rest of day in hospital, and received a hefty bill. Grand palace part was very worthwhile but would rather forget that day.

This entire tour was great, so much to see in so little time, you need 3 days to see it, but the experience with our guide was great, she did not rush, was patient and explained and answered all of our questions, again love the idea of small group and feel it was personable for us. Great job and tour

There were supposed to be three people on my tour, but one was a no-show if the group had been any smaller, the tour would have been private :- Our guide, Bo, did a great job - the only improvement I could suggest would have been some narration during the long boat tour, which, admittedly, would have been difficult without some amplification i.e., due to the motor noise. Bo even covered the taxi back to Khao San Road, which I hadnt been expecting.

This was a great tour however the rules have changed and you now need to make sure that your legs are covered down to your ankles, I had shorts on that covered my knees completely but that wasn't acceptable for the grand palace. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable as she showed us around but it was very hot so make sure you take lots of water with you!

I had the best and most knowledgeable guide Ms. Gof as she truly knew_br/_ her facts and data that I even used on later tours. She gave me a very quick_br/_ info on the area that we were going to visit, history of Thailand and key points and customs about the_br/_ city and answered all of my questions. Even though I was running late_br/_ as I could not find a taxi driver that wanted to drive downtown and _br/_ I had allowed an hour commute time (traffic in downtown Bangkok made LA _br/_ look good) and could not believe that the drivers would pass up a fare. Anyway,_br/_ my only suggestion would be to ADD transportation option to this tour if you are staying outside of the downton area. _br/_ of the d

I only wish we weren't so jet lagged to enjoy more the entire tour! Our fault for booking it for the day of our arrival! PAM was great, she knows a lot about the city, has a sense of humor and the tour was very fun with her. She is also open to questions and always knows the answer!!! I definately recommend this tour especially if you are not spending many days in Bangkok - it includes the must sees in just four hours! It was great!

My tour guide was knowledgeable and professional. The boat, however, is of the Venetian gondola_br/_ type, and this may unnerve some. I almost fell into the river. My bum got a soaking, and I later threw_br/_ away my slacks, due to the odor. I can laugh now, but I was genuinely scared at the time. The tour, _br/_ however, was great, and I heartily recommend this Bangkok tour!

Superb tour, great being on the water and the palace is incredible. The tour guide then helped us onto a bus for the markets, great morning

It did not start very well as they did not have our names on the list for that tour. We then had to walk about 1km to the berth where the boat had already left and had to return to pick us up. The guide was not very informative and the tour did not last as long as stated online.

Joe our tour guide was excellent. We enjoyed walking from the hotel meeting point through the little streets and past the food stalls to get to the boat. The canal tour was really interesting as we saw the old part of Bangkok. Temples were exquisite and guide very knowledgable.

It was a very cool tour, and very small (me, my girlfriend, and one more person). The guide was very kind, and knowledgable, but unfortunately I couldn't understand a good portion of what she was saying. Her English knowledge was good, but she had such a hard accent I struggled to understand her.

Our guide was excellent for the Grand Palace Tour, the only issue was that our bus did not turn up for the River tour so we had to make our own way to the Grand Palace.
