Bangkok in Motion: City Tour by Skytrain, Boat and Tuk Tuk

Bangkok, Thailand

This full-day tour takes you to city highlights via public transport: skytrain, 'tuk tuk' (motorized rickshaw), public boat on the Chao Phraya River and shuttle boat via a historical ‘klong’ (canal). Visit Wat Pho, home of the reclining Buddha, and the nearby Grand Palace with its revered Emerald Buddha. Continue to Ban Batra Alley for monk’s alms bowls making and the Jim Thompson House, with the option of joining your guide for an early morning stroll in Lumpini Park. Receive personal attention on this small-group tour, limited to 10 people.

Tour Bangkok exclusively by public transportation and experience the Thai capital from a different point of view!

Option 1: Early Morning Walk in Lumpini Park plus Full-Day TourYour guide meets you at your city hotel in the early morning for a walk to Lumpini Park. Take a stroll through Bangkok’s Central Park for an authentic glimpse of local life, and watch groups doing their morning exercises, including tai chi, yoga and aerobic dance. Enjoy the greenery, against a backdrop of skyscrapers in the heart of Thailand’s metropolis, before continuing your full-day tour by public transportation.' (See full-day tour option for details.)

Option 2: Full-Day Tour without Morning WalkIf you didn't rise extra early for your optional walk, meet your guide at your hotel in the morning. Start your day of sightseeing with a stroll to the nearest station of the Bangkok Mass Transit System, commonly known as the BTS or skytrain.

Your short ride by skytrain offers the best views of Bangkok’s downtown en route to the terminal station of Saphan Taksin, located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Here, board a public boat to Tha Thien pier where you disembark to visit Wat Pho, the temple of the reclining Buddha. Marvel at Bangkok’s largest Buddha statue, which reaches 150 feet (46 meters) in length.

Follow up with a visit to the Grand Palace, Thailand’s most famous royal monument that was once the official home of the kings of Siam. Housed within the ornate Wat Phra Kaew you’ll find the most revered Buddha image in Thailand: the Emerald Buddha.

Enjoy lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant near the palace before venturing on foot — or tuk tuk — to Soi Ban Batra, where a handicraft family is famed for the art making monk’s alms bowls and selling them. Then head back to Ratchadamnoen Avenue, a historic road referred to as the Thai Champs Elysées, where you’ll get in another tuk tuk to reach the historical klong, Saen Saeb.

Board the klong’s commuter shuttle for a boat ride across Bangkok to the west. Disembark for a short walk from the Ratchathewi boat station to visit the Jim Thompson House, a museum located in the former home of the Thai Silk Company's founder. The complex boasts six traditional Thai-style houses built of teak, and features a fine collection of arts and antiques.

After your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to stay and shop in one of the five large shopping complexes in the area — MBK, Siam Square, Siam Center, Siam Discovery and Siam Paragon — or simply return to your hotel by skytrain, accompanied by your guide.

This tour was advertised as a full day tour. Our guide Tom arrived at our hotel 10 minutes late, not a problem and there was only my wife and I on the tour. We went to Limpini park via the BTS metro although Tom didn't seem aware that the park was our first stop. From there we went to the Grand Palace which was very impressive and fairly quiet. We also visited Wat Pho and the Jim Thompson House. We travelled by BTS skytrain, tuk-tuk, public boat and taxi when Tom felt it was too hot by tuk-tuk. Tom was knowledgeable although he did move quickly, so much so that having asked him to guide us to MBK centre, we were finished. It was 12:15. Although this is a good tour, I do not see that it needs a full day even with a bigger group. As such I think what we paid was very expensive for what we got.

This turned out to be a private tour for may wife and me. Fabulous tour and wonderful guide. It was very hot that day and he was patient with us and let us travel at a pace we could handle. Learned so much about the kings of Bangkok and the temples. Transportation modes were great fun, could not have managed this on our own.

It is advertised as a full day tour but we were the only ones on it and it finished at 12.30. This messed up our last day in Bangkok as we had to check out of our hotel in the morning and were banking on spending the day out on the tour before flying home in the evening. We reckoned we would just have time for a meal between the end of the tour and leaving for the airport, but as it was we had to spend all afternoon hanging around with our luggage all packed away and no hotel room. Our guide Mary was very sweet and good but you should not advertise the tour as being a full day when it ended at 12.30.

Good excursion and a lovely way to explore some of Bangkok's main sites. Our guide, Yin was very friendly and professional. We did not get to do the SkyTrain and did the underground metro train instead. The use of public transportation is a very good option because Bangkok's traffic is very congested. Our group of four elected to leave out the flower market. The restaurant that our guide took us to for an early lunch was incredible. Best food of all our time in Bangkok. There is quite a bit of walking on this tour but you do take tuk tuks in some places. The Jim Thompson tour and the temples are really worth seeing. The temples are really crowded but absolutely worth seeing. Our guide also pointed out good shopping spots which was really great. I don't think this tour needs to start at 8am though. 9am would be fine.

This was our first tour when we got to Bangkok and it was so much fun. We had a group of eight and all hit it off right away. Our guide Om, was young and very personable and funny. He spoke very good english and knew so much about Bangkok, his hometown. We rode in tuk tuks which was a blast! Its a great way to see the city! We took in street food stalls and tried lots of interesting food. We went through the flower market and had a refreshing snack and drink there while arranging our own lotus flowers. The temple tour is fantastic, at night whith all the lights and colors..and less crowded than during the day. We had the best pad thai at a restaurant where the line to get in circled the block but we walked right in, no waiting! All in all, it was a wonderful way to kick off our Time in Thailand. I highly recommend this tour! You will love it!

Words cannot express how thankful we are with this tour. As extensive travellers and after taking tons of tours, this has been the BEST one. Seriously, if you are going to Bangkok, you better do this one, and you must ask for Vicky, she has been the best guide EVER. We can't believe that day just happened so awesome. We will cherish this memory forever. Vicky was like she was a friend from all of our lives, taking care of us, showing the sites, explaining culture, talking and talking. What a superb person. And the tour itself is amazing, you get to feel like a local taking all public transportations. The temples, the water ride, the tuctucs, a lot happened only in a day. Thank you again and please thank Vicky in our name. Hope that every tour guide could be as great and awesome as her.

Definitely a great way to see Bangkok. We were collected by Ling at our hotel and then took the sky train which is quick, clean and efficient._br/_ Ling knows all the short cuts so you don't spend too much time waiting in queues. The Grand Palace was amazing as was Wat Po, both well worth seeing. Transport on the river worth doing, seeing the city from a different perspective. Throw in Tuk Tuk ride and you certainly feel you've seen Bangkok from all angles. You can stop and take as many breaks as you like, and she will tailor your trip to your requirements. Would definitely recommend.

You our guide was very informative and a great role model for Thai guides. There were just too many people at the Grand Palace to be enjoyable and too many Wats but the overall experience was excellent. You really get to see the main city sights and having a private tour was a major plus. Would recommend for first time visitors to Bangkok. Jim Thompson house was amazing and can also recommend the cafe. You pay a bit more but food and drinks a cut above.

All with ample time for exploring. Jeera was very helpful and a really fun guide. I can recommend this tour especially for Bangkok newcomers to get a great overview.

We had only a couple of days in Bangkok so decided to do an organised tour and chose Bangkok in motion. Our guide Ling was excellent and very knowledgeable about each place we visited and where to get the best photos etc.She suggested a authentic Thai restaurant for lunch which was beautiful and so cheap. We said we wanted to see the flower market area and she slightly changed the trip to accomodate us.The different forms if transport were most exciting and we felt like locals....couldn't recommend this tour more and Ling was fantastic.

Great tour!! Only disappointment was tour of the park in the morning. That was not worth getting up the extra hour for. Rest of the tour was very interesting. You have not experienced Bangkok until you have had a ride in a Tuk Tuk! It was very memorable. Guide was very knowledgeable and took us to all the major tourist destinations in the city by all the major modes of transportation. Since Bangkok does not have a hop on hop off bus this was the next best thing with our own private tour guide.Highly recommend this tour. Well worth the time and money if you want to see the city.

This tour was Amazing! Great way to see Bangkok via the sky train, tuk-tuk and boat. Our guide, Mr. Tum was very nice, spoke great English, he was a History Teacher, know a lot about the history of Bangkok and all the places we visited. It was a great one full day to see the most important sites in Bangkk. We were two families, total 7 ppl and we truly enjoyed this tour. I would highly recommend it.

We did enjoy and experienced Bangkok in all possible transportation ways train, boat, tuk-tuk, walking. Bangkok is a very populated city 12 M so the traffic congestion cars and specially motorcycles is stuff. Train in rush hours is a very challenging experience. The temperature is extremely hot and be prepared to walk several miles. Sneakers recommended since the walk ways are extremely damaged.

This tour is an excellent tour and certainly a great way to see Bangkok if you have a fairly short time, we had just one day. There is a lot to do and see. Our Tour Guide Nathan was very knowledgeable and very sociable. The tour started with Nathan meeting us at our Bangkok Hotel and us taking the Sky-Train to the city where we then took a boat along the main river to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho which was amazing and certainly a grand tour. Afterwards we took a Tuk-Tuk to The Jim Thompson museum which again was a very interesting and great experience. The takeaway for us was the ability to see so many sights and have so many experiences traveling the streets of Bangkok in a day with our very own tour guide. It felt very personal and we would certainly recommend this tour and do it again ourselves.

We enjoyed the tour and appreciated the exposure to the various modes of transport in Bangkok. Our guide was knowledgeable and was able to provide us valuable insights and tips about the various places we visited. Her lunch recommendation was excellent. We just checked prices for our tour and it seems the price dropped 23 pp even though we had only booked 2 days in advance. So maybe booking on the day you want to go might be cheaper. Overall a good tour.

This was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Sara, provided wonderful information and shared so many sights with us. She also went above and beyond in helping me purchase a cell phone to use while I was in Thailand. Because our tour occurred the second day the palace was open, following the death of the King, we were able to truly appreciate her sensitivity in helping us to honor those who were mourning his passing. This tour enables the visitor to experience public transportation in Bangkok, while traversing large parts of the city in a short period of time. The Jim Thompson house is amazing, as were some of the street markets. ...a nice overview of the city.

We went in April during Thai New Year and were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour! Because of this we had a private tour of the city. Our tour guide Lin was funny, friendly and informative and even went out of her way to help us book train tickets for our plans later in the week. We opted for the Lumpini Park walk in the morning and were glad we did. We were only in Bangkok for six days so this tour was great for seeing so many sights in one day! We also avoided any unpleasantness such as people telling you the temples are closed/overcharging for transport which I have heard other people had experienced. Wonderful!

My guide was great and I was having a fun time riding on a boat, bus and walking through the park until I realized I had been pick pocketed and my wallet was missing. The guide was great she stayed with me and helped me to file a report with the Tourist Police. The guide kept me laughing and smiling through the whole thing. After I was done with the police she finished what of the tour she could and she made sure that I had food and water.

It was just the 2 of us on this tour and our guide for the day was Mr Oat. He was very careful to ensure that we would fit in during our tour and gave us guidance on what to wear, especially in light of the Kings recent death. We got a great insight into how to use the public transport, which made it easier for us when we were on our own and the Tuk Tuk ride is always good fun._br/_ I the afternoon we took in the Jim Thomson museum and had some lunch there which was fantastic._br/_ All in all a great tour and nice to have a one to one experience as were able to ask lots of daft/relevant questions which Mr Oat was very helpful in trying to answer
