Bangkok Temples Tour Including Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho

Bangkok, Thailand

Immerse yourself in the heart of Thai culture on a half-day Bangkok temple tour. Visit Wat Pho, known as the birthplace of traditional Thai medicine and healing, Wat Tramit with its beautiful solid gold Buddha and Wat Benchamabophit, one of the gems in Thailand’s temples, with ornate Italian marble carvings.

The Buddhist religion plays an important part in the fabric of the Thai way of life. It is celebrated with offerings performed daily to spiritual deity’s to ensure health, wealth and happiness. On your tour you will visit three of Bangkok’s most famous wats (temples) and see an insiders perspective of this fascinating culture.

Wat Pho
Wat Pho is one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok and home to the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the largest reclining Buddha in Bangkok. The wat also houses more than one thousand images of Buddha and is favored among the locals as a place to worship. It is also renowned as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage and is considered the first public university of Thailand, teaching students in the fields of religion, science and literature.

Wat Tramit
The Buddha at Wat Traimit was discovered by accident when it was accidentally dropped as it was being moved, revealing under a casing of plaster, a beautiful solid gold Sukhothai style Buddha. The three meter tall statue is made from solid gold and weighs 5.5 tons. You can still see pieces of the original plaster casing on display today.

Wat Benchamabophit
Wat Benchamabophit, was built upon request by King Chulalongkorn whose palace was nearby. It is also known as the marble temple and is one of the cities most beautiful. Constructed from the finest Italian marble, it typifies Bangkok's ornate style of high gables, stepped-out roofs and elaborate finials.

Waited at my pick up point 15mins early. Tour guide was not there on time, I was getting a little worried, so I tried to text the cell that was provided, but no reply. He finally came on a motorbike, so there were no where for a shuttle to stop at this pick up location, because of the traffic. Once he located me, he called the shuttle van to pick me up. Picked up a few more people at a hotel and headed to the temples. This is a very short duration tour for the amount of things to see, so time is very limited at each location. Amazing Temples Tour! We could've did without the Gem Gallery at the end of the tour, this is a shopping tourist trap. Guide leads you to the entrance of the Gem Gallery, you're whisked into a room to watch a short film, then whisked into the shopping area.....felt like we did not have a choice. Sales people were very aggressive and rude when you tell them you're not interested in buying anything. I walked out, found my guide and he pointed me to the shuttle to take me back to my hotel. I had to wait about 20min, as the driver was talking and smoking. With such a limited time at Wat Pho, I ended up going back on my own, as they also have a Massage School, which was worth it.

I don't recommend this. The temples themselves were fine but the guide was pretty shady. At the end they took us at a jewelery place which is not mentioned anywhere and we spent there like 1 and a half hours with no option to get out of there, the area is remote and cabs were passing by... big no!

This was a great tour for us. We went on Dec. 31st, and our guide mentioned several times how lucky we were to have little traffic or other tourists. This tour typically has 30 - 40 people per our guide's information and there were only 9 of us that day. Nice! The sites we visited were beautiful and well worth this short tour length. For us, we really only cared about seeing Reclining Buddha amazing!, but the other two temples were equally impressive and worth visiting.

These temples are a must see and it was very convenient to go with this tour group with the knowledgeable guide. Very convenient being picked up and dropped off at my hotel.

There is so much beauty on this tour and my guide did a good job of teaching us the basics of the temples we visited. It was really too much information to absorb at the time, so I focused on getting some great photographs and will do some research later to put everything I saw into perspective. This small group tour mine had 7 adults and 2 kids was a great way to see all of these attractions in a short period of time. Be sure to dress modestly for entering the temples, and expect to remove your shoes.

It was very good experience with excellent english speaking tour guide. He provided lot of background info around bangkok and then each of the temple. There was enough time given at each temple to explore. Free water bottle was provided and lots of opprtunity to take pictures throughout the trip.

I cannot rate the tour as waited for 2 hours in vain. What a shame as I was really looking forward to this. The Rendez-Vous point was Sathorn pier. This is a huge place with a lot of traffic and passage of all sorts no specifics point was given. I had an information guide on the pier to call the tour operator. I was told that someone was coming to collect me but lets say we missed each other.

Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but I didn't find this tour guide really engaging. This was more of a job than an interest for her. We would stop at a temple and she just would explain a minute or two and then give us time to wander around. Also, I really, really, really thought the last stop to the gem factory was insulting and a waste of time. A lot of us could read right through what was going on with the last stop. Whoever this tour company is, is making more money on the kickbacks for taking us to a gem store to buy something versus really giving us a tour of a factory where they make gems. Perhaps this is why the price was low.

I can't review because we missed this tour due to customs holding us up at the airport on arrival. :-

The tour guide was not interested in telling us anything about the temples we visited. He just sat outside the temple and waited for us. Come on, what kind of tour is this?

Highly recommend for a solo traveler with limited time to tour around Bangkok. Tour was very comfortable. Availed the morning Grand Palace tour with this. Was sent back to my preferred drop-off place after the tour.

Luck was our guide for this tour and she was very polite, accommodating, knowledgeable and spoke English fairly well. The day was very hot and muggy but the Van had no water, although we did find some at one of the Wats. We were picked up at the peer, which worked well as we had a shuttle from our hotel, however, at the end of the tour, when we did not wish to shop at the Gem store, the guide ha to figure out how to get us back to our hotel. This part of the tour did not seem well planned, as it seemed that we were expected to get back on our own. However, Luck did pay for us to get back to the peer.

I did the morning tour and unfortunately it was raining on the day but the tour was still excellent, Guide spoke fairly good English and he was able to tell us the history of the Temples and what things meant and represented. I have done some exploring by myself around temples but didn't know what the history or what I was looking at. Doing it with a guide and others was great fun and more informative.

Temples beautiful and amazing !! Price for tour good but it is a three hour tour. .A little rushed at sites not given 15 minutes to wander after hearing about Temple from guide as on other tours. Our tour guide was difficult to understand. After rush rush at temples we were brought to main purpose of trip for tour guide...sales commission...brought to a gem /jewelry factory showroom which is on a highway in the middle of nowhere with scores of other tour buses . we were unceremoniously stuck with a number sticker, then herded like cattle at end to walk through rip off Jewelry factory/shop at high prices. seemed like that was the most important stop. Did get a free ride out of the Jewelry factory shop by our guide to MBK shopping mall at least.

This is a very, very poor tour - although we got to see everything on the itinerary, it felt like a taxi service between the temples rather than a guided tour our guide did not speak much English and didn't tell us much about the actual temples!. It didn't last half a day - more like 2 1/2 hours including, as other reviews have said, a final stop at a gem factory which is a bit of a horrible experience in and of itself see below.

Too much time spent inching or parking in heavy traffic, and not enough time at the temple sites. Plus we were not aware that we had to rush to a gem store that we had no interest in visiting, and that was not mentioned when booking._br/_ Otherwise, the guide and the driver were nice people.

The tour was good but the guide had limited English and the visit was 30 mins. If you are interested in spending more time do the research and go alone as there is limited timing to take pictures. Also, the guide stop at the gem store and a tailor which was not a part of the tour! Tourist trap!

This tour was amazing. I can tell you about the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, but until you experience it yourself, I cannot do it justice. A solid gold Buddha the equivalent of a city block is just beyond words to describe. Just amazing! The Marble Temple was really pretty and I liked how my guide showed me the proper way to give alms to the monks and pray. The Golden Buddha was in Bangkok's Chinatown and it was interesting seeing a different artistic interpretation of the Buddha. Tour guide was great imparting knowledge of Buddhist and Thai history and culture. If you do only one your in Bangkok make it this one!

The tour and our tour guide was great and very informative HOWEVER at the end she told us we WOULD be going on a Jewel Factory Tour, we didn't know about this and didn't want to go but we got dropped off there and another bus picked us up. They followed us around the Factory and if you didn't buy anything, they made it clear they were not happy! VIATOR should ensure these thrown on tours do not happen, people do no like the pressure selling when they are on holiday!

we loved our tour guide peter! he was so funny and he told us very interesting details about the temples. the only negative thing was the end of the tour. they took us to a jewellery store which we were not interested at all and did not know that we would go there beforehand.

Rushed, didn't explain history at all, and had trouble understanding/speaking english. We had to ask questions to get anything out of him, and his answers ended up being uninformed, misleading, or didn't even answer the question. I don't even remember everything, I just remember going back to the Wat Pho and reading some of their plaques and going 'wow, our guide had no idea what he was saying'.

It was a tourist trap to be honest. The guide constantly rushed us and did not really explain anything. He finished the tour 2 hours early so that he could take us to and #34;gem factory and #34; where they sell fake jewellery . I am guessing that the guide gets commision for any purchase that you make.

I was the only person on my tour and Cherry was a wonderful guide. She gave me lots of detailed answers to my questions and made sure I was always comfortable...cold water, kept sending me to the shady spots! And the temples were magnificent. Such a memorable afternoon.

The tour was just me and my grandfather so it was incredibly private! A little confusing with the hotel pick-up since we weren't staying at a hotel listed, so we walked to the closest one. The driver was a bit confused, however, the staff at this hotel was incredibly helpful and gave directions. The tour was wonderful! Our guide was knowledgeable and fun. The wats were absolutely stunning and this really was the highlight of our Bangkok tour!

After I booked the trip I got an email asking what hotel I was in. I had already indicated I was staying in a private condo on my initial registration. I wrote them back promptly and told them again, I am in a private condo and gave the address. They NEVER WROTE ME BACK. I have had. I contact for them since. I contacted customer service at Viator the night before my trip, when I hadn't heard back from the provider. Viator sent me an email the next day telling me to contact the tour operator. Sheesh! I did. They aren't responding and this is why I went to customer service this is all very frustrating. I am never booking with Viator again!

The tour was great we got in early so there were hardly any crowds. Peter my guide was very informative and it didn't feel rush. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the last stop at a gem factory with lots of pushy sales staff, that day I did two tours this in the morning and one afternoon and both times I was drop there, to wait for the store to fill a minibus going in my direction for the drop off.

Temples were absolutely gorgeous! Our guide Pui was very informative and friendly. The reclining Buddha was one of my favorite things we visited during our stay. A must see for anyone spending time in Bangkok. At times my husband and I felt a little rushed and wished we had more time to sightsee.
