Although cycling through Bangkok may not be the first thing that springs to your mind, but when you are on the Colours of Bangkok half day relaxing bicycle experience, you will get a brand new perspective of the city that you never knew even existed.
Early morning (or afternoon), you will be picked up from your hotel in Bangkok and transferred to the meeting point where our comfortable bikes await your presence.
Before heading into parts of Bangkok which you never knew even existed, a proper fitting of your means of transport for the coming 5 hours is a requirement. Equipped with helmet and a good spirit, you will head off through small alleys, backyards and local communities. Part of the morning will be primarily dominated with the modern side of the Thai capital – ranging from town houses to stand-alone apartment complexes.
Your first stop will be at one of the hidden communities among all this modern development; although designated as a poorer community; the people there call it home for many years and thrive on local trading and working at one of the nearby factories. Friendly, polite and with a child or two that is looking for a ‘high five’, it is a fabulous experience to almost cycle through their homes and receive a warm welcome.
One of the highlights (closed on school and public holidays) will be a stop at the community kindergarten. Those with little means to send their children off to schools outside the community receive education here while the partners are off to work. It is an example that life is not as easy for everybody and thus, support in donations is frequently done here to ensure that also these children receive the education they need.
Before reaching the local boat pier, you will stop at a sweat shop to move into the green part of the city. After a quick refreshing drink, you will board the awaiting long tail boat and cross the mighty Chao Phraya River and the Jungle of Bangkok will be upon you. This is the greenest area of Bangkok and elevated concrete paths will be your guidance through the lush vegetation and local stilted homes where the residents thrive from working on coconut palm plantations and the cultivation of bananas. En route, the tour will stop for a small, typical Thai lunch (Thai-style noodles or fried rice).
Before reaching the boat ferry to head back to the other side of Bangkok, make a stop at a very old, non-touristic Buddhist temple. An explanation about Buddhism and the way the Thai nation lives and embraces this religious way of life will be explained. You catch a boat to head back to the starting point. From the boat jetty to the office, you pass a local Muay Thai open-air training school. Thai Boxing is the national sport of the country, with its origins dating back more than hundreds of years.
After 5 hours, you will reach the starting point of the tour and your driver will bring you back in comfort to your hotel.
