Damnern Saduak Floating Market, Grand Palace and Wat Phra KeoTour from Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

Visit Damnern Saduak Floating Market outside Bangkok and experience the traditional way of buying and selling fruits and vegetables in the city. Continue to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keo to admire the most beautiful examples of Siamese architecture.

Enjoy a full-day excursion from Bangkok to the legendary Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, located approximately 65 miles (110 kilometers) west of the Thai capital. Your journey commences with a leisurely and scenic drive through rice paddies and salt fields. En route, visit a farmhouse and watch locals producing sugar from coconut. The tour then continues by boat, passing fruit plantations and Thai houses that reveal a more traditional way of life. Upon arrival at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, discover boats of all different shapes and sizes, still used by local merchants to ferry their goods along this Venice of the East. Having immersed yourself in thw electric environment, head back towards Bangkok, stopping at a wood-carving factory en route.

After lunch, visit the home of the Kings of Siam of the Chakri Dynasty in the heart of Bangkok. Originally built by King Rama I, and serving as royal residence until 1946, today the palace is used for visiting royalty or special guests of the Kingdom. Adjoining the Grand Palace, admire the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keo), the best known of the royal temples, and regarded as the most important temple in all of Thailand. It is used for numerous religious ceremonies in which the King participates, especially at the beginning of each of the 3 seasons when the king personally changes the elaborate robes of the Buddha image, carved out of a single piece of emerald-green jasper.

A bit of a disappointment because it was New Year's Day and most people were on holiday

Not much added value except transportation. The tour guide could not provide much more history or cultural knowledge that we can get by basic google research. There's only one route to walk about the floating market. Tour excludes boat ride in the actual floating market. _br/_ Pros: private, hotel pick up drop off_br/_ Neutral: tour guide's English_br/_ Cons: Knowledge of religion is sub-par._br/_ Itinerary:_br/_ Morning: _br/_ Coconut sugar and by-product factory - Elephant ride we skipped this due to animal cruelty - woodwork shop - boat ride to the floating market - Floating market on foot_br/_ Lunch buffet at a hotel package excludes drinks_br/_ Afternoon:_br/_ Grand palace and Wat Phra

This was a fun and interesting day trip. They were very accommodating of our busy schedules as well as pick up and drop off places. The colorful floating market was wonderful and the Palace was also very interesting. Our tour guide was a delightful young woman who spoke English quite well. She is an enthusiastic Buddhist. Be aware that at the temple of the jade buddha, not all visitors are allowed in all areas specifically if you're not Thai and probably Buddhist but the sign specifically said Thai. I also loved the first stop: the coconut factory so very interesting. HOWEVER, I would not recommend buying many of the wares at the coconut stop since you will find them for a better price in the Floating Market. We were very happy paying what we paid and felt it was well worth it. We tipped our guide and the driver, too, who was absolutely delighted to receive something.

Thanks to the Guide - we enjoyed this tour - informative-full of fun - morning part of the tour - worthy 2.5hr drive each way._br/_ The afternoon part of the tour provided us with the inside knowledge of the basis of Buddhism - although we expected more from the visit to Emerald Buddha Shrine - and expectations of closer participation in mourning of the deceased King.

What a great experience. Ms. Cat was a great tour guide. We chose to walk around the market instead of taking another boat around the market waterways because when we looked at the environment, many boats were sitting still for long periods due to incredible crowds. The Grand Palace was a little limited since King Rama IX remains laying in state so areas were restricted, but we still felt like we got to see and learn a lot. As with all the temples we saw on this trip, Wat Phra Kheo, was beautiful.

We only had one day in Bangkok so we wanted to make the most of it. This tour was perfect! Sureeluk was our tour guide and we loved her! She was so knowledgeable, kind, helpful, and gave us lots of great advise that helped us out for the rest of our Thailand adventure. I highly recommend this tour

Great day tour. Only drawback is that the floating market is not what it used to be. It is now mainly a fixed series of souvenir vendors with the river congested with floating tourists and very few food or market vendors. Still makes for good photos.

Mr Moo went above and beyond to teach us and show us many things in Thailand. We enjoyed his company and his approachability in answering all of our questions.
