Flavors of Bangkok: Small-Group Chinatown Evening Food Tour

Bangkok, Thailand

Discover the best bites in Bangkok’s Chinatown on a walking tour that visits seven different eateries, led by a knowledgeable guide. Go behind the scenes to places that locals love and most visitors never find, stopping at markets, street stalls and small restaurants. As you taste a variety of savory and sweet dishes such as Chinese dumplings, noodle and rice plates, and desserts, you'll learn about the neighborhood’s culinary traditions and history. This walking tour is limited to 10 people to provide a small-group experience.

Meet your guide at Hua Lamphong and start your food tour of Chinatown with an introduction to the neighborhood, one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. Then set off on foot through the dense tangle of streets, which are jam-packed with street vendors, markets, shops and restaurants of all sizes.

Following your guide's lead, make frequent stops to taste a variety of delicacies. Sink your teeth into savory Chinese dumplings, and learn about the intricacies of dim sum in Thailand. Sip a refreshing coconut noodle drink in a famous shophouse frequented by the Thai royal family, and visit the top-ranked roast-pork and rice restaurant in Bangkok. Then sample a plate of richly flavored peppered pork noodles.

You’ll also meet neighborhood locals such as Chinatown’s most renowned durian vendor, and find out how to select the best fruit. If you dare, try the notoriously fragrant durian fruit, which some people think is strongly sweet while others find it nauseating.

At a tea shop that carries the most expensive tea in Bangkok, admire the variety of tea available and watch how Chinese tea is prepared and served during a short demonstration. Then for dessert, bite into delicious Chinese doughnuts and sample other varieties of sweets along Chinatown’s main road.

By the end of the tour, you can expect to have eaten enough to make up a satisfying meal, including dishes you might not discover or dare to try on your own. You’ll also learn about the culture and history of Bangkok’s Chinatown, which has been a hub of the Thai-Chinese community for more than two centuries.

Your tour wraps up at a central location, within easy reach of the BTS Station and other transportation. You can also take a tuk tuk transfer to Hua Lomphong MRT Station. Your guide can assist you with directions to your next destination.

Please note: On any given day, participating venues and menu items may be substituted due to seasonal and/or unexpected circumstances.

I enjoyed Bella's tour-history, photos, movies, food, i had a great time talking with her. We had pork, dim sum, omelet, duck, and desserts. It was a great time and there's so much to see. If you have more time walk around.

This tour was fun. Bella provided a good mix of history and culture as well as filling us up with food. We got to explore Chinatown in a way that we would not have been able to do on our own. The food we had was delicious from start to finish. Special mention for the pork pepper noodle soup and the pork neck and chili salad. Yum!

Jung was our guide and my wife and I really enjoyed this tour of the Chinatown area. It was great to learn a lot about the history as well. _br/_ The food was not really what we expected when we think of Chinese food, so before you book this walking tour best to read all the reviews. If you choose this tour be prepared to try new foods and be adventurous.

My husband I booked the walking tour of Chinatown the night before and when we arrived turns out we were the only ones that booked this particular tour so we had a private tour with Bella! Our guide was lovely and funny with great knowledge of the area. Most of the places we visited only had Thai menus which we would have usually walked past cause we wouldn't know how to order, but we were so glad to have Bella show us the way. She was able to cater to our food requirements no seafood and still pushed our boundaries of what we would usually pick. I cannot recommend this enough!

An excellent way to see Bangkok's wonderful Chinatown. The experience, the sights, the smells and the food made it well worthwhile but for me, the icing on the cake was our guide. Bella went over and above the call of duty for us. She could not possibly have done any more. Thank you and well done Bella.

Fantastic! Enjoyable experience. Wonderful tour guide who is full of knowledge, speaks great English Studied in Chicago and goes out of his way to meet everyone's needs. If you enjoy walking sign up now. If you're either can't or don't want to walk then don't waste your money. If you're willing to walk and enjoy a variety of foods and restaurants then buy this tour asap. Great night.

Our tour guide was amazing. He really tried to balance the various needs of all those on the tour, 7 of us. We had pork, chicken, oysters, rice, sticky rice and mango, tea, pastries and a hot ginger drink to end the night. If you're not willing or able to walk then skip this tour. But if you really want to get to know Chinatown by night join in the fun. Make sure you are hungry and don't be afraid to tell the tour guide what you will or will not eat. He's really good about meeting your needs but also about trying to get you to try new things. I ate tofu and I've rarely eaten it. Great night. It rained and he was so kind that he even went and bought rain gear for us. He's a chef by training so he knows his stuff. Don't miss this fun night out.

I took my family as a surprise on our first day in Bangkok, I'm glad we had the experience but our lovely and friendly but seemingly inexperienced hosts did let it down. The hosts we had were not the usual ones when looking at the names of hosts in reviews and I believe they had been given the job last minute as most of the night seemed like guesswork and confusion between the two. The other let down was the food choice, being a vegetarian I did warn the company well in advance of my dietary requirements however the hosts seemed very surprised and panicked when I reiterated it on the day and at many food locations. I would have completely understood if they had warned me they could not cater for vegetarians as I knew it would be difficult, however they didn't and I paid the same as the rest of the group for a substantially reduced experience. I would recommend the experience overall as it was definitely interesting and we met some great people but I would say to limit your expectations, and if you are a vegetarian limit them even more.

Thee was an awesome guide. Great conversation and a very good group to travel with. We were a smaller group which was nice. They do a great job or curating the venues that they take you to and they will tailor the stops to your group as well again this was easier in a smaller group when towards the end we were all getting pretty full and just wanted something light to finish off the evening. We found this to be a nice change as we had been having a lot of Thai food but the same company also offers options for a Thai experiencing which I look forward to trying on my next visit. Definitely recommend this one!

We could not make this tour although we had paid for it. Arrangements were made while traveling on a smart phone and there was no confirmation email like we had gotten with other tours. We were to meet at a and #34;convenient and #34; location. For a traveler in a large city it was impossible for us to find.

Fun fun fun! Unless you know a local personally, you'd be utterly lost in Chinatown without a guide like this. Very much worth the extremely economical price. Highly recommended!

The food was great and our guide provided us with some interesting information about Bangkok's Chinatown and the different delicacies. My highlight were the pepper soup and the fried oysters omelette.
