Private Tour: Bangkok Temples Including Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho

Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand is predominantly a Buddhist country with around 95% of Thai's practicing the Theravada discipline of Buddhism. As you wander the streets of Bangkok it is not unusual to see monks adorned in their maroon and yellow colors walking along the road and it should come as no surprise as Thailand has over 26,000 Wat's (the local name for temple).

On this privately guided half-day tour you will visit three of the most famous wat's in Bangkok - Wat Traimit, Wat Pho and Wat Benchamabophit. A Wat is a Buddhist building where both men and women can be ordained as monks or nuns.

Wat Traimit is also known as the temple of the Golden Buddha. The 3 meter tall statue is made from solid gold and weighs 5.5 tons and is a fine example of Sukhothai style art.

You will then pass through Chinatown on your way to Wat Pho, the temple of the reclining Buddha. At 46 meters in length and 15 meters high the Buddha is the largest in Bangkok and illustrates the passing of the Buddha into nirvana.

Your last tour stop is at Wat Benchamabophit, or the marble temple. This magnificent monastery was built out of white Italian marble from Carrara in the late 19th century.

Your tour will conclude at the Gems Gallery.

I had been to Bangkok before, but wanted to visit some Temples I had missed before. The tour guide picked me up on time and a prearranged Hotel. He advised which Temples we would visit and I asked to miss one of them as I had seen it before. He was happy to oblige. We visited the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. It was a Sunday and there was a ceremony to ordain a Monk, so we could not have access to certain area's. The Buddha was amazing and the temple was very impressive. We then traveled a short distance to the Marble Temple, which was built using Marble from Italy. Again it was very impressive. The guide asked if I wanted to be dropped of at my Hotel, but I arrange to be dropped in Siam area with Shopping malls. The whole tour took under an hour and a half, as the guide really rushed the tour. For me this was fine as I don't ponder too much. But for some this may be a concern. A nice tour...

I ended up being the only person on my tour date, and Ms. Luck guide and Mr. Lot driver gave me a wonderful tour. Ms Luck is very knowledgeable so I really enjoyed all the explanation that was provided, plus she is simply a very nice person. When I return to Bangkok, I would definitely like to book another tour with her, as I did not get a chance to see everything I wanted to see. The temples are stunning - a must see in BKK!

We had a great tour with our tour guide Niko. The tour of the temples went smoothly and the conversation with our tour guide went beyond the story of the Temples but included additional insights into religion and history. Strongly recommend this tour.

Great temples and highly recommended to visit all the temples mentioned. But not so into the Gems Gallery as it feels like a market with all tourists bargaining. So, we requested to head back to hotel earlier but tour guide insisted to bring us to a factory outlet which turned out to be more like a black market shop selling imitation handbags. They brought us into a small shop and had it locked to show us the goods. Though we were not interested, we just randomly bought one and hurriedly leave. Be careful and be firm about where the guide is taking u!

The temple complex at Wat Pho was amazing - we did the Grand Palace tour in the morning and went straight in with this in the afternoon. The last 2 temples aren’t as impressive as Wat Pho but we were so hot by then I don’t think we gave it our full attention. The guide Charlie was lovely!

This was a great tour, and highly recommended. The tour guide was very personable, and shared with me a lot of detail about the sites we visited. This tour was superior to the morning half-day tour I took at the Grand Temple, but combined they offer a great value! You get to see all the main sites in just one day, and the entire experience is not overwhelming. They represent a perfect day of sightseeing in a new city. I recommend you take both tours on the same day if possible.

This tour is 'meh'. The temples are awesome, but it felt like the tour guide didn't really prepare very well to give the tour. Very random comments on the way to the temples about Bangkok. Only the minimum required information about the temples and/or the Buddhas. For the price, I would most certainly choose another one.

This was an afternoon tour and that it seemed all the tourists decided this was a good time to tour. Not able to get a good photo of the Reclining Buddha as a result. Otherwise a good tour.

Very educational and historic tour! Communication about pickup was good. They were punctual and tour went smooth! Was with our group of 4, only us that day, so we got kind of a private tour. Tour guide and driver were very accommodating! Bus was huge with great cold a/c! They were very prepared for any weather coniditions, especially during rainy season. Tour guide had fun facts and showed us exactly what was described. All temples were packed but they did a great job being patient and making sure we got the photos we wanted.

The tour was just OK. The guide I don't know her name did not provide a lot of information about the places we were visiting. The worst part was that when we went to the golden Buddha she really didn't want to take her shoes off to go inside with me to walk me through it all. I was there after a day it rained a lot so when we got to the reclining Buddha everything was flooded so people had to remove their shoes to walk around. She didn't take them off so I had to go in by myself. She actually suggested that we don't go in because it was flooded! When I saw everybody taking their shoes off, I realized that we could do it too. She didn't go in. I went in by myself. I regret having paid almost 70 for that. It would've been cheaper hiring someone to drive me to these places at a cheaper rate.

A most enjoyable tour of the 3 city temples. The tour guide was very informative, I liked hearing about the history of the temples. There was plenty of time to explore, take photos and absorb the serene atmosphere. It was a very warm day so it was nice to get back into an air conditioned van at the end of each temple tour. Be sure to dress appropriately shoulders and knees covered and I would recommend wearing shoes that are easy to get on and off as they have to be removed when entering the temples.

If we wanted someone just to take us around we would have hired a driver. I've never taken or sold a tour I'm a travel agent that states is private where the tour guide doesn't participate. The guide spoke about different stuff while in the car, but did not get out and go in at any of the temples. So again what was the point in paying for this private tour? I'd skip it. Also disappointed that I can't find a clear to make a complaint. Very disappointed.

We were collected from our hotel on time by our guide Tawee and our driver Muttafa._br/_ Tawee was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information and advice. All the temples were very spectacular. As this was a private tour our guide could tailor the tour to what we wanted to see and do. We were allowed to stay longer in places that interested us._br/_ At the end of the tour Tawee gave us the option of returning to our hotel or being dropped off at a different location.

The tour was good, it was a simple and basic tour to the temples, our tour finished in an hour and half since there was no one else on the tour with us and the tour guide seemed to rush a long which honestly we didn't mind as it kind of got a little boring after a bit, the tour guide kept repeating himself as it seemed like he had nothing else to say which was funny lol._br/_ All in all good tour to give you a quick and easy cultural experience._br/_ I recommend this tour to anyone who is short for time, wants a simple cultural experience and on a budget.

The temples were beautiful. The gem factory was a bit of a waste of time. The tour guide was lovely but her English was very hard to understand.

Our guide was Kasem and he was brilliant. He has a lovely way of explaining the history behind all of the temples and the various Buddhas in a way that was both easy to understand and very educational. We could have just wandered round and taken photographs but we would have had no idea what we were looking at or the history behind each of the beautiful buildings and statues. Also included was transfers between hotels and temples and onto the next temple in a nice air conditioned car. Kasem also gave us water which was most welcome and some funny lessons in speaking Thai. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend this tour if you do not have enough time in Bangkok. Our guide was on time at the hotels lobby and a private car too. We did this tour in the morning and the Bangkok Temples including Reclining Buddha in the afternoon. Doing both tour with our guide save time and contributed with each temple and thai cultures knowledges.

This was an amazing tour. I think what made it so enjoyable was, Boy, our tour guide and that it was a private tour. My husband has trouble walking and we were able to take an elevator up to see the Golden Buddha. The Grand Palace was crowded, but so worth seeing. There is so much to see at the Palace and our tour guide showed us everything and explained it all. It was really something to see. We had lunch with Boy and Tim our tour guide and driver, and it was delicious. They showed us a delightful Thai restaurant and I had my all time favorite, Panang. It was perfect! We didn't wait in any lines, and Boy was so kind and helpful. I highly recommend taking a private tour.

This was a very interesting tour and the guide was most informative. I found the information given especially about the Golden Budah and the Reclining Budah interesting. Please look at the wonderful mother-of-pearl inlay work on the souls of the Reclining Budah as it is so intricate.

Thank you for a great tour..... we enjoyed every minute of it. The guide, Theresa, has the perfect personality for her job: knowledgable, very respectful yet warm and with a great optimistic view.... we received an overview about Thailands history and through explanations of cultural aspects and their meaning while visiting the three main temples in Bangkok. We even were allowed to leave flowers and incense as a gesture of respect.... The time spent in the visits was perfect. Thanks again..!!

I was shown all the main temples in a 4 hour time frame and great way to see them with driver dropping the guide and myself off and then collecting us after seeing each temple .The guide explained the history and features of each temple as he guided me through each temple .There was plenty of time for photo opportunities .This temple tour suited me as I did not want to spend a large amount of time doing this activity .

We did this tour on our first day in Bangkok so it was very helpful to have a knowledgeable guide and driver as we were getting acclimated to the city. The temples we saw on the tour were incredible however I felt like our tour guide rushed us a bit. The tour was also meant to last until 12:30pm and around 11am our tour guide took us to a custom tailor and then a gem warehouse - we did not ask to be taken here and it was strange. We were back to our hotel around 12pm. I would have rather our tour guide had asked us what we would like to see more of - more temples or maybe some local markets if we had paid essentially to have him until 12:30pm. It felt forced and like they wanted us to buy things when we hadn't asked to do shopping.
