Bangkok Walking Tour Including Rickshaw Ride and Long-Tail Boat Ride
Bangkok, Thailand
This guided walking tour offers a different view and experience of Bangkok for those who wish to see a non-touristy side of the Thai capital. Your 5-hour itinerary includes a long-tail boat ride and 'samlor' (three-wheeled rickshaw) ride plus Thai lunch at a riverside restaurant.
Meet your guide and small group at the tour operator's office in a centrally located district of Bangkok. You'll make a first stop at a typical Thai temple with Chinese influences, where your guide provides information about Buddhism and the temple's distinctive features.
Afterward, walk at a relaxed pace through one of Bangkok's poorest neighborhoods. You'll observe a lifestyle that remains an authentic part of the Thai way of life along the many canals, whose lanes typically can’t be seen from the water. Follow alongside your guide for a closer look at this part of the vibrant metropolis devoid of tourist sights.
Next, take a long-tail boat ride across the Chao Phraya River. Once on the other side, you'll enter a forest of banana, mango, papaya, and coconut trees and be surrounded by lush vegetation. Nature lovers will feel at ease exploring on foot. A bit further on, you'll come to a superbly designed park to feed the abundance of fish in the pond and enjoy the birds, squirrels, and butterflies. This area is also home to the park’s largest inhabitants: monitor lizards. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse.
Continue your journey by rickshaw, a popular form of bicycle taxi, and travel through the greenest part of Bangkok. (On weekends the rickshaw makes an extra stop at an authentic Thai market along the canal.) Visit the area's oldest temple before heading to a riverside restaurant for a Thai lunch overlooking the majestic River of Kings. Soak up the view while watching the boats plying up and down the river.
From the restaurant it's a short rickshaw ride to the pier where a public boat takes you back to a more familiar side of bustling Bangkok.
Very good tour of a different part of Bangkok. Our guide was excellent and we really enjoyed it. There is a lot of walking involved so take that into account.

The guide and rickshaw ride were great, but the walk through the slums, the forest and the park were a waste of precious time in Bangkok.
