While Thailand is home to more than 31,000 temples, called 'wats,' many of the most important are located in the capital city of Bangkok. After morning pickup at your Bangkok hotel in by minivan, start with a visit to Wat Traimit, also known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha. Marvel at the impressive, solid gold statue — a fine example of 14th-century Sukhothai art that was discovered by chance in the 1950s after it was hidden under layers of plaster for centuries.
