Thai Cooking Class with Local Market Visit

Enjoy hands-on experience of the small-group Thai cooking class. Visit the nearby local market to get some fresh ingredients. Learn how to prepare and cook traditional Thai food with our charming local Thai instructor.
Make your own way to the class. The location is very close to the famous Khao San Road. The 4-hour class either in the morning or the afternoon will start by taking a Tuk Tuk to the nearby market (approx. 1 km ride). You will see a large variety of fresh ingredients used in Thai cuisine e.g. vegetables, herbs, fishes, and fruits (fruit section is not available on Monday). After selecting some fresh ingredients, head back to the classroom for a short rest with a welcome drink and some local snacks.
Next, get the apron on and move to the stoves. Watch the demo from the instructor with all the tips and tricks, then get your hands ready to prepare your own delicious meal in a fully-equipped workspace. You'll have the opportunity to cook four dishes, whilst cooking your dishes enjoy some sampling throughout your cooking experience.
Once all dishes have been cooked, sit down with your group and feast on the wonderful flavors you have created.
Mae was an excellent guide/cooking instructor. The market visit to purchase items for our meal was very interesting. We each had a cooking station and each made our own delicious curry paste then used that for a green chicken curry dish. We made hot sour shrimp soup, Thai chicken basil, then pad thai noodles. And then we got to eat it.

We really had fun in this class. We started with a market trip and that was interesting, not the same markets we tourists see. The facility was clean and well set up for what we were doing. The teacher made it fun. So this is a good choice! _br/_ One note: The entrance is hard to find and down an ally which looks pretty sketchy but we were fine. We got lucky as just as were started to wander a street vendor sent us to the right place. But it does not look like the right place.

Mai was a lovely, patient and totally engaging guide and teacher. Her place is very clean and air conditioned! The tuk tuk to the market was great as was shopping for our fresh ingredients to cook. We made 4 dishes that were great and varied and learned new techniques to take home with us. I would highly rec!

fantastic experience. really friendly, helpful guide. loved the market visit - saw a ton of fruits and vegetables I've never seen before and the guide could explain them all. cooking was also really fun, with very clear instructions but you do it all yourself, and then you don't even have to worry about finding somewhere for dinner! highly recommend.

This was a fantastic cooking class. It was fun and very educational, and we did all the work, even down to squeezing our own coconut milk. The market trip was great, and the cook is extremely knowledgable. Clean, fun, and well worth it. Oh, and the food is delicious.

I had a great experience partaking in this cooking class. Warning to all travellers in Bangkok, many locations are initially hard to find because of the adjoining alleys. Take extra time to look for the place you are visiting or you may arrive late and miss out on some activities. That is the only downside to any Bangkok tours but it is not the fault of the company, it's just the city's charm of which a traveller/tourist should be mindful. I left early but still got lost looking for the cooking school location, and was worried because I thought I would miss the market trip. I called, and the instructor Mae helped me find it, and waited several minutes for me. Mae is wonderful she is incredibly kind and informative, and made the market trip a pleasure. Cooking with her was also great. I rarely cook but felt so comfortable to make Thai curry, soups, and other dishes. The instructor understands how to slowly explain each step to making the perfect Thai dish. It doesn't hurt that Thai cuisine is also so delicious! I met some wonderful people who recommended other tours to me ie. bike tour. I would definitely take a class like this again.

The market tour was incredible with all the fresh vegetables, fruit, and meats. The cooking experience was also amazing making green curry from scratch vs buying the paste was the highlight. All 4 dishes were very fun to make and very good to eat. Mae and her team are top notch. The highlight of our trip!

WOW! Not only do you go to the market, learn what everything, watch a live demo on how to make your dish, cook it yourself, but you also get a full meal to enjoy at the end of the class. Just the eats are worth the price. The classes are small and intimate. All hands on with no one left behind. Also if you need any help with anything just ask. It was great. Yes, it could be gluten free! It was a fantastic experience. One of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. The market visit was fantastic and the explanation of the fruits, vegetables and others live frogs, live fish, etc. was very interesting. Our instructor was very pleasant and very patience with all of us. The place is very difficult to find since you have to go deep inside alleys. Dont despair when you see the outside of the place it is not the most attractive place you can imagine but inside is very clean, organized and has AC. The food is delicious! We met several people on our visit to Bangkok and to all of them we told them about the cooking class. Definitely will do it again if I return to the city.

We had a absolutely fantastic time with Maliwan and #39;s Cooking Class. Mae was a great instructor! My husband has no real experience cooking from scratch but he was able to make the entire authentic Thai meal. The market tour was a great experience as well. I would defintely recommend this class.

My son and daughter signed up with me for this class and we had a great time. The trip to the market was so informative and I learned so much about the huge variety of ingredients that go into Thai cooking. Mae was so wonderful about answering all our questions and giving us a lot of details. The cooking class was so fun and it was nice to be able to cook without having to do a lot of the shopping, food prep, and clean up - what a treat! And the food we cooked was delicious, one of our best meals during our two week trip to Thailand/Cambodia!

The cooking class is really amazing, I had so much fun. The market visit is super interesting, then the cooking part is really easy and smooth, you just need to follow the steps that were shown to you before. Really nice experience, really nice food. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a genuine and fun experience. _br/_ The location is a bit tricky to find, you have to go through a weird, dark and narrow alley.

I really enjoyed myself! We took a trip to the market via tuk tuk to pick up our ingredients, learning about and trying the foods along the way. Our chef was an expert instructor. She walked us through preparing our meals to our own taste preference. We prepared soup, two entrees, and dessert. All were delicious!!! I highly recommend this tour, but be sure you're a bit hungry when you arrive!

My daughter and I were the only students in the class and Mae really made it fun. She was fun to speak with and very knowledgeable of the markets. It was fun to see the market. Lots of interesting things in the market very different from a Dallas grocery store! Mae provided outstanding instructions and made the cooking experience a lot of fun. Everything was prepared and the facilities are super clean. Definitely a must do for families.

We ended up being late for the class because the cab driver dropped us off a block away and was not exactly sure where we had to go. We could not find the place and got lost. We asked around and we were given wrong directions several times. When we finally arrived, they had waited for us, and we ended up having a wonderful experience! Mae was terrific.

We were so happy with our cooking class we attended in Bangkok at Maliwan Thai Cooking school. Our teacher Mae spoke excellent English and was such a great teacher! We started with a fun and informative visit to the local market to buy some ingredients. Once we came back to the school we started on our dishes. We made and ate a total of four dishes and they were all fabulous! Mae gave us all of the recipes and a certificate of completion when we left. We are so excited to go home and make all of these dishes again!!
