Barcelona Super Saver: Montserrat Day Trip and Barcelona Gaudi Tour

Barcelona, Spain

This Montserrat day trip and Barcelona Gaudi tour including La Sagrada Familia combines two best-selling tours at a discounted price. Start the Barcelona Super Saver with a tour to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat before spending the afternoon exploring Barcelona's special artistic heritage. If time is tight and you'd like to travel beyond Barcelona, this full-day super saver tour gives you a delicious taste of Catalonia, Spain. Even better, you'll enjoy a 5% discount when you buy these tours in this way.

Montserrat Royal Basilica Half-Day Trip (Morning):
After driving through picturesque little villages you will arrive at the craggy mountain of Montserrat and the Royal Basilica. Montserrat has been one of Spain's most important pilgrimage sites for hundreds of years, due to the famous 12th-century Romanesque carving of the Virgen Moroneta, the Black Virgin.

After hearing an introduction to Montserrat from your guide, learning about its importance in past and present times, use your free time (roughly 2 hours) to explore independently and discover the site’s magic on your own. Then, meet back up with your guide later to travel back to Barcelona by coach.

On your way back to Barcelona you will make a stop at the harbor, before continuing to the terminal to commence your tour of the city’s Gaudi-designed highlights.

Artistic Barcelona Tour: (4.5 hours)
Set off on your afternoon tour with a stroll to La Sagrada Familia, arguably one of the most prized of Gaudi’s architectural works. Make your way around the outside of the UNESCO-listed cathedral, gazing up at its sky-piercing spires, and learn about its history from your guide. Created during the artist’s final days, the cathedral remains unfinished but is said to have been his most ambitious project.

From the cathedral, follow your guide to Park Güell, an extensive garden complex located on the hill of El Carmel that was also designed by Gaudi. Known for its architectural features with mosaic terraces, curved walls and eye-catching sculptures, the park attracts lengthy entrance lines. Skip past the lines with your fast-track ticket, and head inside to explore the abundance of pretty walkways and leafy parkland with your guide.

Having admired the colorful mosaics, statues and architecture inside the park, continue to Passeig de Gràcia in central Barcelona. On a stroll down the street, stop to see two of Gaudi’s home-turned-museums: Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. Learn how the wealthy Batlló and Milà families commissioned the artist to create their residences, and of the controversy that the attention-grabbing abodes created.

A long day, but a great trip. The trip to Montserrat was beautiful and very interesting. Loved the Gaudi tour of Barcelona. Would love to do again!

I would give 3 star for Montserrat Trip but 5 star for Gaudi Tour. I was handled by an agency called Julia Travels which was really professional, efficient, and on time, but the tour itself was so-so. For Montserrat, unless you're interested to check out the Basilica and get time out from the city to hang around in the compound of the cathedral up on the mountain itself wasnt very high, then that's OK. Not the most beautiful of mountains either in my opinion.

I went on this tour with my eldest daughter we enjoyed every minute, we would have liked to have gone up on the funicular railway at Montserrat but there were very long queues and due to the time allowed we would not have made it back down in time. But the trip was very pleasant and moving especially when the bells began to chime just after our arrival. During the afternoon the Barcelona Gaudi tour the guide was so informative he made sure we had a day to remember. Although some people were 'moaning' about the heat but this obviously was out of the guide's control! you cant please everyone. Be prepared for a lot of walking but you wont be disappointed. I feel we both learned a lot about Gaudi and a lot more. At the end of the tour we asked for directions back to the area of our Hotel and our guide was familiar with this and was extremely helpful. He did show some concern if I was tired, I was but I am so glad myself and my daughter went on this tour. We learned so much on the Gaudi tour.

The Montserrat tour was great, we had a lot of free time and did what we choose. The second part of the tour, the Gaudi tour was excellent. We saw more than we thought we would, the guide was great, very knowledgeable. She also helped us find out was back so we would not get lost!!!

The Montserrat trip was very nice except there is not enough time to get to the panoramic spots at the top for great pictures. I would highly suggest a separate trip there. The tour guide however was very mediocre. _br/_ For you vegans out there, there is a great vegan restaurant-Veggie Garden very close to the Julia Travel Office where you start your tour. Excellent service and food!!_br/_ The tour guide on the ArtisticBarcelona Gaudi tour was awesome. _br/_ If at all possible do a day trip to Montserrat and spend another half day going inside La Sagrada Familia with a reserved ticket and a reserved Park Guell Tour with a tour guide.

A long but good day. Montserrat in the morning followed by Gaudi in the afternoon. Cant fault either trip even though the bus trip out to Montserrat is looong - I managed to catchup on some sleep, at the cost of some background info but :-. Mountain road also not trip for delicate travellers. I misread the Gaudi tour side and thought we would actually enter the church, but having seen the size of the queue I'm glad we didn't! I'd walked part of the outside of La Sagrada Famila a day or so earlier so it was great to hear some explanation of what it was all about. Interesting, but after a few hours I'm not still not sure what he was about or even on! Nothing against the tour but I think like all art you either get Gaudi or you don't ... and I'm not sure. What I would say though is, do the tour, appreciate the sheer brilliance and eccentricity of the guy and decide yourself ... or if you cant there is a delightful Irish pub just around corner from meeting / drop off point which worked wonders for me :-

This could have been a good trip. But the tour guide forgot us twice. We had to make our own way up to monastery and we missed the information about the place. Also we only spent a short time there.

We really enjoyed the tour to Montserrat in the morning, but the lines were so long we didn't have time to go inside to see the Black Madonna. But we enjoyed the ride through the countryside and the views and fresh air once we got there and our guide gave us a very interesting history lesson. We had free time to go to the museum or ride the cog train. Our complaint was there were so many people at the agency , the guides would make a quick announcement inside and lead the people out holding his sign about face level so the people on the sidewalk were never informed the tour was leaving. The guides need to have microphones so we can hear and sticks to hold up their signs._br/_ In the afternoon on the Gaudi tour , once again they put on on the wrong bus and we had to get off and join another crowded bus where 2 people ended up standing. We had 3 tours on board . We went somewhere and waited for a bus that came and got one the tours off our bus. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed his talk but at the last stop, when he finished talking he told us the tour was over and to walk straight down Passeig de Gracia to Placa Catalunya , when we got there, there are many streets leading off of the Placa and we were really tired . It took us about 30 minutes to find the right street to turn on there are several Ramblas , once we were on the right street we went into the nearest Tapas bar and drank much wine.

This was soooooo worth our money. To get up close to Montserrat was amazing and to get inside Park Guell was so worth the entire trip. I do recommend to bring some money because at the very end, you may want to see the inside of Casa Batlo. To walk the streets of Barcelona and see the architectural gems, is so worth the effort.

The trip to Montserrat was wonderful. The guide was very amiable and moved skillfully between Spanish and English. Her knowledge of the highlights of Montserrat was very helpful. The museum is absolutely amazing, I'm so glad she recommended seeing it. I could have spent half a day there easily. Hearing the boy's choir at noon was so lovely, even if they weren't the regular choir because it was on tour. The youngest members of the choir performed beautifully and filled the cathedral with joy. And the black Madonna was worth the trip. If you want to have lunch, pick it up at the cafe when you arrive and carry it along with you. We waited until the very end and everything was closed! Luckily we had some snacks of our own. There are lots of local farmers that offer their honey, cheese and nuts for sale - several to choose from and all are willing to give you a sample to try first. That and the gift shop with its lovely alcoholic beverages were a great local touch.

We had a great time on these tours. For both Montserrat and Gaudi, each guide was very knowledgeable and enjoyable to follow along with. In Montserrat, enjoyed the chance to explore on our own as well. I cannot remember the name of our Gaudi tour guide, but she was fantastic clearly passionate about the works she speaks to.

Both of our tours that day were amazing. We lucked out with beautiful weather, knowledgeable and friendly guides, and manageable crowds. I highly recommend both Montserrat and the Gaudi tour. If you can handle a 9-10 hour day, do both on the same day. Otherwise, split them up. And don't miss the La Sagrada Familia inside tour!

The weak things re: this trip are the following: 1 The guide at Monserrat mountain shortened the stay at mountain by 30 mins so it was less time spent on the mountain than it was promised. 2 The guide at Barcelona Gaudi Tour spoke poor English. It was difficult to understand what he was saying in English because of his strong accent. Also the 90 of the group were Spanish-speaking guests so he was dedicating a lot of time to them in Spanish language forgetting the English-speaking guests. 3 In fact it is 2 excursions and the pause between them was 1 hour, too long.

Don and #39;t be fooled. This is a huge tour company. They leave with large busses, and the tour consist of 20-30 people. They also certainly don and #39;t give a heck about their customers. Don and #39;t get me wrong, we were late 2minutes, but Julia travel didn and #39;t even care to know if we were en route and coming.

The Gaudi portion of this tour was a very large group. They do not give you headsets so it is very difficult to hear the guide. Additionally, this tour is conducted in both Spanish and English. Our guide went between the two every two or three sentences so it was hard to keep your focus. Probably would not recommend for these reasons but a tour explaining the background of the Gaudi buildings is worth doing.

Unfortunately we received a lot of rain during this tour, but we did not let this dampen our spirits! Montserrat is stunning and the Gaudi tour gave us a nice sneak-peak into everything Gaudi! Highly recommended for those who are a bit pressed for time but want to get a taste of everything. Since the only entrance included is the one for Park Guell, those wanting to visit the other Gaudi sites will have to go back on another day as there is not enough free time during this tour to see everything ex. the interior of the Sagrada Familia.

I really enjoyed this tour, but the stated 2.5 hours of free time at Montserrat was really only about 30 minutes, so several areas had to be missed. We did get to hear the Boys Choir sing in the church, which was lovely, despite being packed in like sardines! The Gaudi part of the tour was a favorite, especially Parc Guell! The guides were very informative and helpful.

This tour included many different attractions. It was a very long day and tough for the older folks in our group. The sites were amazing though and the tour guides were very informative. This is a must see attraction.

Review by:   Annamaria C,    April 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The Montserrat Day trip was great, but there was much time wasted with the guide talking about things one can work out for themselves. She was lovely but really didn't stop talking all day - even on bus back when a little quiet reflective time to absorb all we'd seen would've been great. _br/_ In the afternoon the Gaudi tour was disappointing - not due to anything but a very lack lustre, disinterested guide . Pedro spent the 3 hours alternating between English and Spanish - very confusing indeed. He also seemed to show little enthusiasm shuffling his way from site to site. We broke away and saw as much as we could as his slow pace meant that at Park Guell, in particular very little distance was covered. We have done about 30 tours with Viator but this was by far the most disappointing.

What can you say about Barcelona? It is a beautiful wonderful city! Our tour of Montserrat and the Gaudi tour after were fantastic. The tour operator was very, very good for timeliness, buses and guides! Very professional in every way! We would consider doing any tours with this group. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.

Excellent tour. Tour guide spoke English and Spanish. Setting high on a cliff was fabulous, as was the view of the Mediterranean about 50 miles away. Bus was clean and in good condition. Boy's choir was wonderful. Did not do the Gaudi Tour as wife and I both had colds and needed the rest.

Our tour of Montserrat was fantastic - highly recommend this to anyone and everyone! Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, providing all of the background information necessary to make this an enjoyable and educational trip. The weather was gorgeous, which I understand is not always the case. We could see blue skies for miles and miles. The late afternoon tour of Park Guell and other Gaudi sites was also enjoyable, but pretty tiring after a long tour at Montserrat. The Gaudi work is magnificent and well worth the effort to visit.

Review by:   Elizabeth C,    November 2015 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
In the afternoon it rain continuously and the tour guide seemed oblivious to it. He had everyone leave the bus and instructed us that he would see us back at that spot in 1 1/2 hours while we looked at the Gaudi park. There was no where to go to get out of the rain so I dropped out of the rest of the tour and took a taxi back to my hotel

Excellent, enlightening tour. One needs far more time in Monserrat and more time to explore Gaudi so I will have to return. This tour gives one a taste of good things to come.
