Barcelona Super Saver: Sightseeing Tour with Montjuic Cable Car and Montserrat Tour

Barcelona, Spain

Perfect for first-time visitors, this Barcelona Super Saver combines two popular tours that offer the ideal introduction to Barcelona's famous sights, including Barcelona Cathedral, the Gothic Quarter, Olympic Village (Vila Olimpica) and beautiful Montjuic Castle.Take in aerial views of Barcelona's skyline, including La Sagrada Familia and the city harbor, during a ride on the Montjuic cable car. Next, enjoy a ride up to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat by cog-wheel train to explore, see the 12th-century carving of the Black Virgin and sample local liquor. When booking these tours together, enjoy a saving of 10 percent!

Barcelona Sightseeing Tour Including Montjuic Cable Car: (4.5 hours)
Meet your local guide in central Barcelona, and start your morning sightseeing tour with a stroll through Plaza de Catalunya; admire its many fountains and statues, and then wander along the narrow medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter. As you walk, your guide will explain interesting details about Barcelona’s historical sites. See many buildings from the 15th century, including Barcelona Cathedral, as you continue to Plaza Sant Jaume, where important government buildings are located, including the Palace of Generalitat and the Town Hall.

Next, board a coach and take in views of the Mediterranean Sea and Barcelona’s coastline on the drive to Montjuic, a hill near the coast that features many attractions. Pass the Olympic Village (Vila Olimpica), which was home to athletes during the 1992 Olympics, and drive by Port Olympic. Continue up Montjuic for a panoramic view of the city and harbor, and then enjoy a tour of Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and Calatrava Tower. Next, visit the Spanish Village (Poble Espanyol) to see architecture and traditional crafts from different regions of Spain.

Finally, board Montjuic cable car and take in aerial views of Barcelona landmarks such as La Sagrada Familia as you ride down the hill to Montjuic Castle. Admire the castle from the outside, then head back to central Barcelona, for a short lunch break (own expense).

Montserrat Royal Basilica Tour and Cog-Wheel Train Ride: (4.5 hours)
After driving through picturesque little villages, arrive in the small town of Monistrol to hop aboard your cog-wheel train for your 20-minute ride through the mountains. Gaze out at the glorious scenery, and hop out on the craggy mountain of Montserrat, a peak that rises to roughly 4,051 feet (1,235 meters).

The Royal Basilica of Montserrat has been one of Spain's most important pilgrimage sites for hundreds of years, due to its famous 12th-century Romanesque carving of the Virgen Moroneta (the Black Virgin). On weekday afternoons, there is the opportunity to hear one of Europe's oldest children's choirs: La Escolania de Montserrat.

After hearing an introduction to Montserrat from your guide, learning about its importance in past and present times, use your free time (roughly two hours) to explore independently and discover the site’s magic on your own. Then, meet back up with your guide to enjoy a tasting of four typical Montserrat liquors and learn more details about the site by watching the 'Montserrat Inside Closed Doors' video, at the visitor's center. Later, travel back to Barcelona by coach.

The tour guide Giovanna is the BEST TOUR GUIDE we ever met. She is thorough, intelligent, tireless, attractive and polite. She patiently answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable. The walking tour part of the tour is difficult for a tour guide because one has to have a loud a clear voice, which she did, in both Spanish and English. She was the tour guide for the morning tour. The afternoon guide on April 9 was also excellent but I did not get her name. Thank you.

This was two great tours combined in one that was fabulous! The morning was the sightseeing tour around Barcelona aboard a bus followed by the visit to Montjuic and the fantastic views from the cable car. We ended the morning tour with a brief walking tour and highlights of the Gothic area. We then had time for a quick lunch and then headed back to the tour office to meet up to head out on the second tour to Monserrat. This was nice in the afternoon, since it gave you a bit of a rest, as it took roughly and hour or so to drive to the monastery. There we had plenty of free time to explore the beautiful grounds and the Basilica. I highly recommend going inside the Basilica to see the Black Madonna. This was a wonderful way to see all the highlights of Barcelona!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were shown many places on our tour of Barcelona in the morning. The Montjuic Cable Car was under renovations and we were disappointed that we were unable to ride it. In the afternoon, we traveled to Montserrat. At Montserrat, we went on a walking tour of the region. Once finished, we were given samples of the liquors made in that region. We rode the cog train back down to meet our bus. Beautiful views of the area.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. Montserrat is beautiful and majestic. We just wish we could have heard the choir sing.

This Julia Travel tour is really two tours. It was not as good as it read. The drive to Montserrat was interesting, but not enough time there to explore and see things. The guide did not do much and you really did not see too many or interesting highlights of Barcelona. The water front stop a waste of time. Could have seen other things or spent spent more time at the Spanish village.

We had a really good time on this tour, and a couple of really good tour guides. Since we really only had one day to explore the city before our cruise, we wanted to make the best of it. The morning city tour was a quick bus ride around the city pointing out different areas. It would have been nice to make a couple of stops, like at Olympic Village and by the waterfront, and the old Olympic stadium. Taking pictures of these sights while moving on the bus wasn't the best. The cable car ride was quick, but it was something different, and enjoyable. The short walking tour at the end was not really needed, and we felt we could have skipped that part. The Montserrat tour was really nice, as it was mostly on our own. Felt like we had adequate time there, and being there at the end of the day was nice, felt like less crowds and it was nice to see the sunset from up in the mountains. We had a really good time, though it was a long day!

Was able to enjoy in and out of the city in a single day. My favorite was the cable car, the Spanish history town/market, highlights of Gaudi houses and Barcelona coasts. I personally think we do not need to spend too much time around the Barcelona Olympic stadiums... you can't see much from outside either way. But overall a good tour.

The first tour guide for the city tour was wonderful, but we didn’t have a great experience with the second tour guide for Montserrat. She was inexperienced and frazzled. She gave 30 people 5 minutes to use the bathroom and when my dad was literally 2 minutes late, she made a huge scene about it.

Too much time spent on bus circling around town and bus does not stop if you need to use restroom, etc. The Montserrat tour was great!

Just ok. Depending on who you get for your guide will depend on how much of the tour is in Spanish. Tours are in both Spanish and English, but we had one tour guide that only hit highlights and names of buildings in English and the rest of the time was speaking Spanish.

Recommend these two tours but important to note that they are two quite separate tours run by the same company. It was not made clear in the booking and information process that it was a morning sightseeing tour, followed by an extended break before joining a new tour for Montserrat in the afternoon. We were not the only tourists confused by this arrangement. It would have been useful information to have at the time of reading and booking, that these were two separate tours.

The Super Saver tour is the way to go if you want need to see a lot in one day. The morning sightseeing was very comprehensive and I don't think much, if anything, was missed. Our guide, of course, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The Montserrat Tour was less intensive on information, but was also very good. The only thing I would have preferred here was a total English tour. Our guide had to speak in Spanish for some people, and then in English for others. It got to be tiring listening to tons of Spanish to say the same two sentences in English. Only wish I knew Spanish. I requested English for all the tours. We had two people in wheelchairs and thought that would be a problem for us and them, but, wonderfully, it was good for everyone. Montserrat is very user friendly for disabilities. Overall, I would highly rate this Supersaver.

This tour is essentially two tours. The morning was the Barcelona Sightseeing Tour. The afternoon was the Montserrat Tour. There was a break in between tours. There was a different guide for each tour. This just depends on timing of how you check in for each tour. I enjoyed both tours however I most enjoyed Montserrat. The trip to Montserrat was very scenic and informative. Taking the train up the mountain one way and the bus the other provides different views of the magnificent setting. We did have quite a bit of time on the mountain, but we did not have time to browse the shops as we spent time in church and stood in line to visit the Madonna. _br/_ The Barcelona Tour was multilingual: Spanish and English. The guide did a very good job switching between languages. The two languages creates a timing problem when describing the sights. If the first description is in Spanish might be past the building during the English. Also people on the bus were not considerate and talked while the guide was speaking in other than their preferred_br/_ language. Use of whisper boxes would help during the walking tour which would eliminate the need to be close to the guide. There were times due to the size of the group, we could not get close enough to hear when the description was in our language. _br/_ Enjoyed exploring and leaning about Barcelona and the surrounding area during these tours.

An interesting day - split into two distinct tours. Our dual guides in the morning were not so good - rated 1.5 - 2 stars for the Montjuic cable car trip and around Barcelona. The afternoon trip, different guide, and totally different experience. Great tour, great insight - rated 4.5 stars purely because the weather cut short our tour. I really recommend the Monterrat tour. Its more ethereal, more religious, has lots more meaning. Take the second cable car - we missed it but those who made it said it was great

Eh this was alright. It was pretty hard to understand the guide and we were in a bus for most of this tour. I would have enjoyed the bus ride more if they weren't going so fast and gave us time to actually look at what they were talking about. Also I knew and still know nothing about Montserrat. I thought the guide would at least tell us about the place and why it is significant.

Worth the money and enjoyed it overall even though it was a long day. Montserrat was amazing. Although the guide in the morning was good, the pace of sightseeing tour through Gothic Quarter was somewhat rushed as it was crowded and we were having trouble keeping up at times.

The weather influenced our enjoyment as it was really warm. The cable car was a bit stuffy. We enjoyed the rest of the experience. It is an easy way to do this rather than doing it on your own. All of the guides we had with Viator tours were excellent and helpful. I recommend this as a way to see a lot with minimum physical effort. It was a good overview of Barcelona.

Not what I expected. The landscape is definitely unique. The cable car is really a tram or funicular going up the hill. The madonna is interesting. Not sure I would do this unless I had some extra time in Barcelona

This tour was terrible purely as they over booked the tour and was made up of Spanish and English tourists! By the time she finished one explanation of a building we had driven off down the road and she then had to translate into another language! I mean seriously we booked in English!

The first part of this tour was great, the Gothic Quarter, the Sangria tastings, the Olympic Park and the harbor and the Montjuic cable car ride which gave us magnificent views over Barcelona. Our guide was very good, even though it wasn't an all English tour as we requested so therefore often missed knowing what things were when we were on the coach as she also needed to talk in Spanish. We had a two hour break at La Rambla Boulevard which was perfect lunch spot before walking back to the office to start the second part of our tour. Our guide for this spoke very poor English and was not really a people person, he was a bit disorganized but the tour itself was spectacular. We caught the cog wheel train up to Montserrat which was covered in mist and was just so surreal, the 12th Century pilgrim site was so enchanting, as we were there the mist lifted and we saw the Elephant Rock on the mountain. We did get complimentary taste of some very nice liqueurs which took us all awhile to find out where as the tour guide had disappeared without really telling us where to go. Both tours are fantastic but hopefully you won't get the second guide that we got, also make sure you take a jumper or cardigan with you as the second tour gets very chilly up at Montserrat.

We had already spent two and a half days in Barcelona. The only places we have yet to visit are Montserrat monastery and Montjuic castle and cable car. This tour is a perfect fit for us. It is actually a combination of two tours with a break in between. Our tour guides were wonderful and provided very good explanation about the places and its background. When we first arrived at Montserrat in the afternoon, it was so foggy that we had a hard time to see anything beyond ten yards. Fortunately, the sky clears up in a half hour. We were able to see the beautiful mountain landscape and monastery.

Great Guide. Morning tour is of Barcelona although there is only a brief sighting of the famous Sagrada Familla Church from MontJuic. Considering the importance of this church, it should have been included in the tour and other sections such as the old 1992 Olympic Village deleted. Worthwhile visits to the Mont Juic castle and especially time well spent in Spainish Village. After the cable ride, there is the town walking tour which is historically interesting but I felt guide went into too much detail here. This section of tour finished at 1.20pm and next tour of Montserrat started at 2.45pm. This tour was a great experience especially the cog wheel train trip up to Montserrat and just the sheer beauty of this place. Just be aware the line to see the Black Virgin carving can take over 1 hour and you only have around 2 hours there. Arrived back in Barcelona after 7pm. Very worthwhile tour especially for someone with limited time in Barcelona.

My wife and I booked this tour after arriving in Barcelona following a cruise around Europe. We only allocated 1 day to see as much as possible and attempted to cram as much in as possible. At the very last moment, we booked this all day tour, hoping to accomplish much of the site-seeing in one day which isn't really possible.

This tour gives a good overview of the parts of Barcelona. The tour guide for the walking tour was very knowledgeable and sweet. When I was too afraid to get on the cable car, she sat with me and talked to me the whole way down and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and the ride is very short. The tour guide for Montserrat was not as good, she did not provide good advice on how to navigate the little time we had there. If you want to see the black Madonna, you need to line up at least 30 mins before they open the room. Not knowing this resulted in many people in my group not getting to see the icon. Montserrat is beautiful and well worth the trip. Note: the Montserrat tour is in the afternoon. They put me on the wrong bus and I went in the morning, so I missed the walking tour and had to do it the next morning. They were quick and helpful in getting the mistake fixed, but it complicated plans for my last day in Barcelona.

A good days touring. Good views from the top after the cable car ride. A good over all look at Barcelona. Vincent was a great guide for the Monserrat tour. Not only was it interesting at the monastery , there was some great atmospheric effects as it became colder and dark, with the mist rolling in. Good value for money.
