Costa Brava Half-day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

On this half-day trip we are going to visit the Girona coast, christened 100 years ago as the Costa Brava. The name is due to its unique rocky, rugged and cut shape coastline, composed of small coves surrounded by pine forests and lapped by crystal water. Its natural wealth and beauty is apparent in several territories and protected areas, such us Cap de Creus, the Emporda Marshes and the Marine Reserve Medes islands. This area has historically been a point of entry, transit, and settlement for different cultures and civilizations. Each has left its footprints until nowadays. The Costa Brava is not to be missed!

The fame of Costa Brava is also due to its villages. Small fisherman towns, with whitewashed walls and narrow winding streets, today still retain their charm.

We will take the motorway and after 1h15m we will be at Lloret de Mar, the main touristic village of Costa Brava. Upon arrival we immediately realize of its bustle: there will be multiple coaches arriving from all over Europe which bring visitors to enjoy its beaches, hotels, shops and activities.

Walking through its narrow streets, which still have reminiscence of its recent maritime past, we will find plenty of shops to suit all tastes: from the latest brands to the typical beach bazaars. In the middle of its most famous shopping street we will also be able to admire architectural jewels of great value such as Saint Roma church, with an exquisite modernism style, and inside the church, a 16th century altarpiece which is still so well preserved.

At approximately 10:50am we will go on board Dofijets, which will lead us to the neighboring village of Tossa de Mar. During the sailing trip we will be able to enjoy the unique and characteristic landscape of Costa Brava: a procession of different huge cliffs which have been shaped in fanciful forms over the centuries by the strength of sea and wind.

At about 12:00 pm we will get to the emblematic village of Tossa de Mar, considered “the pearl of Costa Brava” because in this small area we can find all those landscape and historic elements which have given it such well-deserved fame. Its spectacular sceneries, from its shores, beaches, caves in the cliffs to its lush vegetation, turn it into one of the locations that has better preserved its natural environment in perfect harmony with the tourism industry.

History has left his footprints, from the Romans in the Vila Romana dels Ametllers, one of the most important villas in the ancient Roman province of Tarraco to its emblematic fortified Vila Vella or Old Town of Tossa, which was listed as an artistic-historic monument in 1931 as it is the unique remaining fortified medieval town on the Catalan coast. Outside its walls, we can find the traditional fishing neighborhood, known as Sa Roqueta, which still maintains the sailor atmosphere of these typical villages on Costa Brava.

Once we arrive in Tossa de Mar, we will begin a walking tour from the beach, following the fortified perimeter up to the lighthouse on the top. Over there, you will appreciate stunning views from the coastline. When descending, we will go through the narrow streets and stony houses of Vila Vella until we get to the fishing district. From there on, you will have free time to have lunch. This village has the greatest gastronomic offer from all Costa Brava.

At 3:00pm the tour will be finished and we will go back to Barcelona, where we will arrive at about 4:30 pm at Plaza Catalunya.

The guided tour through the old city was very informative - the guide did a very good job. the coastline is beautiful - we had a lovely day and i can say - the views we saw were very much like they were advertised! I would recommend this tour.

We boarded a regular tour bus and began almost on time. It’s a little over an hour to the first stop. The first village is really touristy. We had 45 minutes there. We then waited on the beach for the boat to pick us up. We ended up standing in the sun for over 20 minutes waiting for the boat. It is actually a ferry that runs between villages. It was pretty crowded but we got seats. It was also very difficult to board. Had to walk down a steep, slick ramp. After this all was great. The scenery was beautiful! The village of Tossa da Mar was so interesting and gorgeous! We took the guided walking tour and then had lunch. Many places to choose from. Had plenty of time to shop. All in all a great tour!

I would highly recommend this tour. The tour guide was professional and very informative. The drive up the coast was scenic and relaxing. We had lunch in the quiet seaside town of Tossa overlooking the beach and water enjoying great pizza and sangria. I would recommend a walk to the Castle as it has very picturesque views over the Mediterranean. A very enjoyable tour.

This is a great tour, the small cities along the coast are beautiful. When you are on the tour it also includes a 45 minute boat ride which shows just how beautiful the coast of Spain is. Highly recommended.

Très beau tour et guides animateurs excellents. Toutefois, linteret Pour la première ville visitée est très limitée à part son bord de mer et son église. Par contre la visite du chateau et de la ville de Toassa de Mar est spectaculaire. Magnifique!

The Costa Brava trip was a treat. Tossa de Mar was a charming sea village. It was nice to get away from Barcelona and see the coast by boat.

We were very disappointed in the towns on this tour. What we thought would be quaint fishing villages, were just streets lined with low level souvenir shops. These are definitely not the best views of the Mediterranean. If you really want to see these towns or the coast, rent a car and shorten this trip.

The trip arrangement is basically ok. The view there is fabulous. But the tour guide Helena was certainly NOT ok. She did not perform well as a tourist guide. She spoke like a robot and did not have any interaction with us. Very disappointing.

This tour was full of beautiful sights and provided so much for so little. We had a decent guide that may have been new but at least provided a variety of information. The boat ride to tosse del mar had a glass bottom for some underwater viewing. Tosse eas just gorgeous and had plenty of shops.

It was a good trip however! While we were in Lloret de Mar...we have to stand in the heat for almost an hour waiting for our boat. Why cant be our tour guide communicate with whoever is responsible if our boat is almost approaching or not. After maybe around 20 minutes of standing in the heat with no shed at all we have been told that our boat is coming within 5 minutes time. However, boat did not arrived until around half an hour after. Our two tour guides seems to be not very interactive with us nor having the concern.I was sat just in front if them in the bus and when were almost approaching Tossa de Mar they both just head to the exit area without even telling me.During the walking tour in Tossa de Mar,she also seemed to be not bothered if any in her group has been left out or what.I wish that our tour guide Monica,i could not remember the other one, could be at least a little bit more friendly ,inter active and concerned .

Our Guide was helpful. Forget all the other distractions and just go straight to Tossa de Mar. We thought the trip was a small group tour-our mistake.

Quite a good bus trip and the part on the boat along the coast was really most enjoyable, seeing the cliffs, beaches, pirate caves and so on. Time in Tossa de Mar was sufficient for a quick look around. We did not walk up to the old fort as path was a bit too steep for us.

I did both the half-day tour this tour and the full day Costa Brava tour with this company. I thoroughly enjoyed them both! This tour is the shorter tour that visits the two larger resorts on the Costa Brava. I enjoyed the second resort, Tossa de Mar, more than the first town, Lloret de Mar. Lloret gave me the party hardy tourist trap vibe while Tossa was more classy and attractive. Good thing they spend most of the time in Tossa. But its important to see both towns so you can see what you prefer. They even gave us plenty of time in Tossa to enjoy a fantastic seafood sit down meal in the restaurant of our choosing. Highly recommended tour.

Loved the trip to Costa Brava ! A beautiful seaside town, we climbed the many stairs to the top of the hill to a beautiful old castle with amazing views.the boat ride was enjoyable with it glass bottom to view the underwater world.. Free time for lunch where we chose a restaurant who cooked fabulous pizza and jugs full of sangria. There was plenty of time for a swim in the nice clear water before heading back to Barcelona. Very enjoyable day !

Tour was amazing! Costa brava was beautiful, boat ride was great! Tour guides were wonderful as well as very knowledgeable. Definitely worth going. Only thing I would change is the 40 minutes of free time in first town as second town we visited was better.

Fantastic and varied day. Highlight was the boat trip, looking at a spectacular coastline, crystal-clear water and beautiful fish, but it was ALL good and the guide was excellent.

Good value for the money spent. The views from the boat were breathtaking. Costa Brava is a gorgeous place to spend some time. The highlight was definitely Tossa de Mar. The medieval town was absolutely stunning. It was difficult to find an inexpensive place to eat - and although the more expensive places looked great we were on a budget and were disappointed with our meal. Our tour guide was informative and friendly and shared a fair amount of information about the area with us. There was a good amount of free time to spend exploring Tossa de Mar which has a beautiful beach, cute shops and streets to explore. Overall we were very happy with this tour and are glad we did it.
