Enjoy a 6-hour small-group tour to admire the world-famous Magic Mountain of Montserrat inside and out: first the Salnitre’s Caverns, the amazing underground galleries that traverse the mountain, full of beauty, legends and geological formations, and second, the monumental Montserrat Abbey, the historical Sanctuary towering on top of the rocky fingers.

The tour begins in the meeting point in central Barcelona. You will relax in the comfort of an air-conditioned minibus during the one-hour drive to the mountain. Right there a stairway built in on the rock will lead you to the Palaeolithic entrance of the Salnitre’s Cavern, the underworld heart of Montserrat. During a comprehensive guided visit you will feel like a speleologist learning all about stalactites and stalagmites.

After a lesson on why the mountain is geologically unique and a chance to take a short snack (your own expense) you’ll be ready for the spiritual journey to the Sanctuary. With the undivided attention required by a small group your local guide will share the secrets of history, art, architecture, religion and myth regarding the whole complex until you are ready to ascend to the Virgin’s silver throne to receive her Mona Lisa smile.

Small group of four. We had a great guide and managed to see some of the Abbey before the larger crowds arrived. Views spectacular and then we went to Salnitre Caverns. This was and adveture. 500 metres underground. Very safe and amazing sights. So pleased we added this to our Montserrat adventure
