Picasso Museum Experience in Barcelona: Skip-the-Line Museum Access and Walking Tour

Barcelona, Spain

Fascinated by the art of Pablo Picasso? Then, this 2-hour Barcelona walking tour of the locations connected to the 20th-century Spanish artist will fire your imagination. With an expert guide, set off to discover where Picasso studied, socialized and developed his painting style while he lived Barcelona between 1895 and 1905. See his art school; the café where he met with other arty radicals; and other locations important in his youth. Lastly, enjoy skip-the-line entry to the Picasso Museum; bypassing the lines for a guided tour of its impressive collection.

Meet your guide in central Barcelona and start your 2-hour walking tour of the sites associated with Pablo Picasso.
As you walk, listen as your guide explains how artistically minded Barcelona had a profound effect on the young 20th-century artist who lived here for times between 1895 and 1905.
Stroll through the bohemian streets Picasso frequented and view the El Quatre Gats, a café where he met with other avant-garde artists. See the Llotja Mar art school where he studied, and admire the three friezes at the Frisos del Col legi d'Arquitectes — his only open-air artworks.
Continue past other locations important to the youthful artist, including places where he painted, and amble through the charming La Ribera quarter on route to the Picasso Museum.
The museum houses one of the world’s biggest Picasso collections, so lines to enter are generally quite long. With your guide, use your skip-the-line ticket to bypass the queues, and head inside to view some of the over 4,000 works.
Stroll around and get insightful commentary from your guide on the main highlights, most of them completed in Picasso’s early life.
Your tour ends at the museum, leaving you free to depart or stay on inside.

Great tour of Picasso around the city ending up at the Picasso museum!

This tour was wonderful! It was a great way to learn about Picasso's life and the evolution of his works.

The walk was a little long from start to the museum and was meant for a true Picasso lover interested in details of his life, e,g, scenes / inspiration from specific paintings, his apartment during his teenage years, where his wife lived, etc. If you're looking for a general introduction to Picasso and his works, I would recommend that you consider a different, shorter tour at the museum. I also wouldn't recommend for children under 12. Kids were more interested in street performers than Picasso.

I learned so many things about Picasso. My guide George clearly had a passion for his topic! Thank you Barcelona,

The guide very pleasant very knowledgeable re her subject.Personalized the museum shared her favorite paintings.Would have liked more time at museum itself and not meandering around to get there until afterwards

Picasso and Barcelona go hand and hand. Our guides passion for Picasso was superb. The directions to the tour office on line are a bit confusing

The Picasso Museum is a must - it is an outstanding collection of his earlier works that gives insight into Picasso's journey as an artist. The tour, however, was a no-show. Directions on where to meet up and the fact that our ticket did NOT give us admission into the museum without the group meant that our tickets were invalid. Just go on your own to the museum and enjoy the experience of the Gothic quarter surrounding it.

Loved it! Highly recommended. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything to us perfectly. I like going to museums with a guide because I can appreciate the art better when I know the story behind them. This was the perfect start/intro to our Barcelona trip.

We enjoyed this tour because our tour guide spoke perfect English and had an exceptional personality. Our group was not that large so she was able to answer questions. Be sure you are in good shape for this one because it moves very quickly and if you don't keep up it is bad for everyone because there is a lot to see in a short amount of time. We loved it. Very informative.

Im not a fan of Picassos late works but love his early work. It was interesting to see his progression from teenager to an adult. Our guide was well informed and enthusiastic.

I liked being able to go to locations with significance to Picasso's life and being able to tie it all together with the Museum at the end. I do wish the tour ended in the same location it started because it was difficult to find your way around without knowing the route we'd taken or if you didn't have a map or GPS.

Good way to see this. This locale has special insights to the life and creativity of Picasso his early painting of an Aunt that gives us followers of this genius a nice addition to our portfolios of his life and work. The walking tour to the museum is a nice touch but be ready for it.

The audio tools sometimes cut in and out but the guide was very knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of the questions that the group asked. Half of the group didn't show up to the meeting place so when you book please make sure you check the location. It meets at the tourist office and not the Picasso Museum!

I would have preferred a private tour as Barcelona is very crowded and feel that we missed a lot because of the number of people in_br/_ the group. We were hurried through the museum as the guide was unable to get our group in and we had to wait about half an hour. City tours are not for me.

Excellent tour which lasted about 3 hours. Half of the tour was outdoors visiting the neighborhoods that_br/_ Picasso frequented early in his career and later on as well. The second half of the tour was in the Picasso Museum and_br/_ organized in chronological order from the beginning of his career which began at a very early age. You follow the_br/_ progression of his career and our guide was very good at explaining the different influences which impacted his painting at _br/_ different stages. It was very worthwhile and I liked not wasting time trying to enter the museum on my own and touring _br/_ the museum with just a head set. I learned much more from this experience with a tour guide who has studied the artist.

The tour was great. Having a PhD in art history as your tour guide was fantastic. There was a significant problem with the tour company in Barcelona several people with confirmed reservations from Viator were not on the official list for the tour---us included the tour company almost didn't let us on the tour.

Interesting tour filled with lots of information. However, Picasso only spent his youth in Barcelona before moving to Paris, so do not expect the tour to cover all of his life's highlights. A nice way to spend the afternoon.

Never took the tour. Our plane was late and we were unable to change the day. _br/_ W went in to the office and the lady wasnt very nice. She said the other days were full and she couldnt help._br/_ I checked and there was room every other day.

You must do the walking tour with the guided tour of the museum. It gives you insights to the life of Picasso you would never see or know._br/_ The tour of the museum was well paced, time to enjoy the highlights. Our tour guide, Jose, was perfect for this venue. He gave us the right amount of information in a manner that was fun. He was kind and highly professional.

Guide was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the walking tour part more than expected. It was great for things to be pointe out and explained that we had been seeing the whole time and not realized what we were seeing. The picasso museum was also interesting and our guide did a great job walking us through it.

Good tour centering on Picasso. The walk was through the area adjacent to the Museum. The only addition would to point out more of the non-Picasso sites during the walk. The museum was focused and laid out well.

Review by:   Robert E,    October 2017 Review: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting not only about Picasso but about the history of the area along the walk as well as Picasso's history. I would not recommend this tour for people that have difficulty walking but for us it was fine. We met the guide after a bit of difficulty finding the meeting place. The instructions could have been a little clearer but once we arrived it was fine.

Amazing walking tour in Barcelona - took about 3 hours and brought a lot of information and inspiration. The guide was awesome - had the chance to get better understanding not only about Picasso, but also about whole history of Barcelona. Walking takes time and energy, but it really worth it! Also it's really cool to be guided at the museum, listening to biographical and historical facts in connection with symbols in paintings. Highly recommend to all art and history lovers.

It was an efficient tour and lots packed in - the guide was a bit temperamental when asked to repeat things. It was so so.

Furious about this. You would think that a tour regarding the Picasso Museum would meet at the location of what is on the title of the tour. Livid that when calling the meeting place is 15 minutes away from the museum. When I called the number they were horrible trying not to use profanity. I asked if I could meet up with them, No. Can I enter into the museum when they arrive with them since the entrance into the museum is included, No. Why not? You have to start with the tour in the beginning or you can't be involved. I will NEVER use Viator again, ever. Thankfully there are other tour group options and this experience was really bad and unacceptable.

A very nice museum. The physical plant is attractive and the collection is most interesting because of the inclusion of his childhood drawings. Here you learn about his formation as a man and less about his famous works.

Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable guide. I would definitely recommend. The walk was great, learning all about Picasso's time in the city and it was nice to have some time to explore the museum further at the end of the tour.

Outstanding guide, Jose! He made Picasso come alive. The walk through the Gothic Quarter and La Ribera/El Born, with explanations and highlights of Picasso's life in this area made for a fabulous intro to the artist and the museum. Very well done!

I traveled alone to Spain and wanted to see all the sights, but not do the typical tourist things. The Picasso tour was amazing. We had blue tooth ear pieces so you could always hear the tour guide--who was very knowledgeable on all things Picasso. We walked through historic old town, past Picasso's studio and places he use to frequent including the 4 Cats bar. The tour ended at the Picasso Museum. Picasso's art was portrayed chronologically. I learned so much about his life. Seeing his art first hand brought a new enlightenment on how truly amazing his talent was. I strongly recommend the tour. The only negative thing is that I was given the wrong time to meet for the walking tour. I had to return to my hotel and return several hours later.

This was very unclear - where to meet and when. We thought we were meeting at the Museum so were 5 minutes late to the walking tour and missed the entire thing - they absolutely would not let us join the group at any point and had to pay again to see the museum on our own. Ridiculous.

Our guide was knowledgeable, courteous and extremely helpful to everyone in the group. I would highly recommend this tour. The tour gives great incitebinto the development of Picasso as an artist. The museum is superb and the selection of paintings chosen by the guide extremely informative. Wonderful. Thank you.

We enjoyed this tour -- but were rushed through it because some of the people were late arriving at the meeting place. This was disappointing as our guide was personable, informative and showed us Barcelona through the eyes of Picasso. We suggest that all tours leave on time -- and that late comers be directed where to catch up with the tour. Everyone who arrived on time should not be rushed because 4 people were 15 minutes late.

This was one of the best tours of our vacation. The guide was very knowledgeable and interacted with the small group extremely well. It was a very interesting tour of the places frequented by Picasso in the early part of his career. The tour included entry to the Picasso Museum, where the guide gave us much insight into the artwork that was displayed. As it was given solely in English, we were held captive by the guide's input and never distracted by translations, as we had been on other dual language tours that we had taken.
