Priorat Wineries Tour from Barcelona Including Wine Tastings and Lunch

Barcelona, Spain

Sip your way around Priorat, the exclusive Catalan wine region that produces some of Spain’s most expensive — and delicious — wine. With a local guide at your side, learn what makes the wine so special and, of course, sample some of the region’s wares. After a visit to the village of Morera de Montsant, travel to Clos Figueres in Gratallops for a 3-course lunch, and then finish with a vineyard tour at Clos Dominic. Tasting sessions at each site are included, and numbers are limited to just eight people for a more personal experience.

Leave Barcelona’s Barri Gótic in the morning, and relax on your journey southwest to the Priorat wine region, just above Tarragona. The remote and rocky region is tiny — a mere footnote on the Catalan map — but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in its exclusive wine. Tellingly expensive, the rich and full-bodied produce of the area has been subject to harsh growing conditions and labour-intensive harvesting; the grapes are mostly picked by hand.
Make your way past eye-catching terraces of vines that are carved into the hillsides, and stop in the village of Morera de Montsant to soak up the views. Listen to an orientation of the area from your guide, as you let your gaze linger over the hills. Then, visit a small local winery to sample your first three Priorat varietals of the day.
Continue to Gratallops for your second tasting session, this time at the esteemed Clos Figueres winery, run by Christopher Cannan, a pioneering Priorat winemaker. Learn how the wine is produced by grapes from old vines, without the use of insecticides or other products. After sampling a few glasses, head to a local restaurant to recharge with a traditional 3-course lunch.
In the afternoon, travel onward to the tiny village of Porrera where the family-run Clos Dominic winery awaits. Meet Paco Castillo-Serrano who runs the estate, and tour his unique old-vine vineyard before tasting a few vintage samples.
Finally, relax on the journey back to Barcelona, and finish your day with a drop-off at the start point.
Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

This was one of the best tours we have ever experienced, including that our guide Andrew is a consummate professional with in-depth knowledge of every aspect of the tour. This was a small group tour with 6 people which made for a very intimate day enjoying this unique wine region. The selected wineries offered a most unique experience, including meeting and discussing their wines and facilities and histories with the owner/operators of these boutique places.

We ended up taking a private tour as there were no other guests on our trip. Our guide Andrew was knowledgeable not only about Priorat terroir and wineries but also about Catalonian history and culture that made our day-long conversation pleasant and informative. Andrews personal relationships with the winemakers made our day a joyful and insightful experience.

Our guide Andrew knew a lot about wine and was very familiar with the winemakers. He paired the wines with local foods he bought and served from local stores and restaurants. Even the van ride went fast due to the detailed history of the region he supplied. The wine was excellent and the winemakers were engaging.

This is one of the best tours we have ever been on with some of the best wine we've ever had. Andrew was an amazing tour guide, incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We learned a lot from him about the Priorat wine region's history and current production practices as well as Catalonian history and culture. The tour at Pasanau was excellent, with knowledgable winery staff including the owner taking us into the vineyard and explaining the terroir local and throughout the Priorat and winemaking process before we had our tasting. During that tasting of five delicious wines and an estate olive oil, Andrew provided an amazing spread of local fruits, nuts, cheeses, and bread. I almost wasn't hungry for lunch!

Guide had deep knowledge and was charismatic as well. Only four of us on the tour, which was a bonus. Lunch exceeded expectations. Wineries were all small family owned enterprises. Wine was top shelf.

This was one of the most amazing tours I have experienced. My two sons ages 37, 39 enjoyed this wine tour. Our guide, Mr. Andrew Wilson was the most knowledgeable guide any of us had ever met. He knew art, history, wine, architecture, etc. Anything we asked he had the answer and extended explanation. The wineries we visited, Pasanau, Clos Figueres and Clos Dominic presented wines that were the equivalent of some of the best wines we had ever experienced. We have been collecting - and tasting - for many years. Paco and Dominic of Clos Dominic were great hosts and tour guides. We would all love to return in the near future. I have posted some pictures. If possible, please transmit the close-up picture of Paco to Andrew so he can get it to Paco.

If you really enjoy wine do this very special tour of a very special region. Andrew was a fabulous host. We enjoy wine and have visited_br/_ wine regions around the world and this tour ranks as one of the very best. Meeting the passionate wine makers, walking their fields and drinking their results was truly an experience not to be missed. The food pairings and lunch were also done quite well. We would have no reservations doing this tour again or recommending it highly.

Andrew, our guide was the key to a great day. We have been on many wine tours, this was the best by far. Andrew's knowledge of the Priorat region along with the relationship he has with the owners and their families allowed us to be apart of their love of their craft._br/_ Truly a one of a kind day. If you love or even like wine, this is a must that you will never forget. Lunch at Clos Figueras winery was a treat. Great food with great wine. We would repeat this trip in a minute.

Great wines for great times. Visited three small wineries with a chance to interact with the vintners and their families/workers. The winemakers were so proud of their wines and spent the time to give further insight into their production. We were in the fields, the production area and storage.

Highly recommend this tour. We had a fabulous time. Andrew, the guide, was knowledgeable and great host. I attended two wine tours this trip and this tour is, by far, the better one. The good wine and food, coupled with Andrew's insightful commentary, made the tour enjoyable and interesting. This is a long tour but well worth it.

So where is the 6 stars? Imagine the fog settling in over the mountains as you drive, winding up and down and in and out of it. This place is frozen in history. With a tall Scotsman in the lead, you will witness sides of mountains littered steep with grape vines, so steep that each grape must be hand picked. The wine you taste in this region is so rich that it warms your soul. Caution: relocation is a real risk after this tour. One of my most enjoyable days of any vacation. We are planning to come back for the 3 days tour.

Our tour guide was not only very knowledgeable and informative but inspired us to be devotees of Priorat wines. It ranked one of the best private wine tours we have participated in the last 18 years.

Maybe the best wine tour I've ever been on, and I've been on a lot of them. Our guide, Andrew, was very amusing and took great care of us. The wine was terrific and a great deal, the food was good, and the three wineries we went to were all different and a good representation of Priorat wine.

fantastic experience. Andrew, our guide was amazing. We met with the owners of two of the wineries, and their wines were suburb. Andrew made the whole experience special we had pastries and 'rancid' it isn't really wine in the square of a village to start. This is an up and coming wine region with excellent wines. If you're a food/wine person, this tour is a must.

This is an absolute must do trip for anyone serious about wine. Our guide, Andrew, was thoroughly knowledgeable, expertly prepared. An a true joy to spend the day with. The vincas themselves were gracious, and the wines extraordinary.

We joined this tour in March 2016, its not the cheapest of tours but it is well worth it.. we were just 5 persons, travelling in a comfortable mini bus. The Guide did everything to make us comfy and we enjoyed a day travelling to a diverse range of wineries in this prestigious region!... recommend it!

Well worth the experience. Andrew was a terrific host, knowledgeable in wines, history of the area, local insight and very courteous to both us and those we visited. This was a very personal look into vineyards in the Priorat and highly recommended. Of all our activities, this was the most memorable.
