Pyrenees Medieval Village Hike from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

See the unexpected side of Catalonia on a hiking day trip to the Pyrenees. After a pickup from Barcelona, travel to the charming village of Rupit in the Pyrenean foothills. Explore the village’s beautifully preserved streets and hike through the surrounding hills, taking in alpine views of cliffs, mountains, valleys and waterfalls. Finish with a 3-course lunch in a centuries-old Catalan restaurant, and then return to Barcelona in the late afternoon.

Leave Barcelona in the morning, and relax on the journey north with your guide and small group. The Pyrenees region is roughly three hours from Barcelona, so relax on the journey and watch the landscape gradually change from coast to mountains.
Your first stop is Rupit, a beautifully preserved stone village with roots that trace to the 16th century. With your hiking boots on, follow your guide on a walk through the village’s winding, cobblestone streets, and then make your way up into the Pyrenean foothills. Hike for roughly 2.5 hours at a leisurely pace, taking in dramatic views of the mountain scenery that surrounds you.
The route includes stops at several vantage points, allowing you to catch your breath and ogle the scenery. A majestic waterfall, measuring some 360 feet (120 meters) high, is sure to be a highlight of your hike; have your camera ready to capture the sight of the cascading water, flanked by cliff and valley views.
Finish your walk at a centuries-old restaurant, where a 3-course Catalan feast awaits. Dig in to plates such as pork sausage with white beans, and then relax on your journey back to Barcelona. Your tour finishes with a drop-off at the start point.

One of the highlights of our trip to Barcelona. So glad we booked this tour. Nice experience to get outside of crazy, but engaging and fun Barcelona. Our tour guide was David who did an awesome job guiding us during our exhilarating Pyrenees hike from and back to a small oldest town called Rupit. The sights were first-rate. It is not for people who are afraid of heights. It was semi-serious hiking! Make sure you're wearing comfy hiking/walking shoes. Breakfast and lunch were good! The lunch feast was actually amazing. Wonderful and gracious restaurant staff. For dessert, don't miss the ice cream drizzled with their local Ratafia - I still am dreaming of the flavor. Overall a tour well worth its price.

This is a fantastic day trip. The village of Rupit is just beautiful and the breakfast from the local bakery just before the hike starts is good quality with a great selection- meats, cheeses, selection of local savoury and sweet breads and tea, coffee or orange juice. The walk has stunning scenery and we learnt a lot from our guide along the way. The lunch at the restaurant was fantastic- great quality food and plenty of it. We had 3 full days in Barcelona, 2 spent sightseeing around the city and 1 spent on this day trip and it was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend.

One of the highlights of our trip. Our guide from Spanish Trails, Alex, was awesome. The town of Rupit is so magical I didn't want to leave. The hike is a great escape from the city and unbelievably beautiful. We enjoyed the breakfast to start the trip and the delicious feast at the end. I cannot recommend this trip enough

This tour was by far the best adventure I've ever been on! Our guide, Jon, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable- we felt at ease asking him about everything from the Catalan culture to the language to the terrain. Our group was a small one 6 people, and we all got along quite well, even getting to the point of sharing our life stories with each other by the end of the trip. We started out by meeting in the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, and Jon drove us about an hour and a half out to the village of Rupit in the mountains in Catalan. It definitely felt like I stepped through a time portal- the village, which was literally carved into the mountains, was old but magnificent! We had breakfast at a nice little bakery Forn de Pa l'Era, which served us delicious bread, cheeses, and jamon. There are wines and liquor you can only find in that area. Afterwards, the hike into the foresty mountain was unbelievable! If you love the outdoors, you'll appreciate the closeness with nature that you would experience from this trip. The hiking activity itself was exhilarating, and the fact that it was led by an awesome guide made it also educational and even more stimulating. We got to peer over the edge of cliffs, which brought into view the most amazing sights, including valleys, plateaus, and treetops upon treetops. We got to stand at the top of a waterfall as well. We concluded the full-day trip with dinner at one of the oldest restaurants founded in the 1800s, and I have to say we ate so well there! We were even shown how to properly drink the house wine pass it around!_br/_ This trip is a must-do it's a wonderful 1-day escape from the busy and modern city. I had so much fun, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's a small price for the experience of a lifetime!

Wow WOW WOOOOOWOWOW!! Remember to bring appropriate footwear. I thought it would be a stroll but it actually was a bit of a hike, however the views and the scenery was BREATHTAKING!!! You get a breakfast and a HUGE lunch included. We were extremely fortunate to be the only 2 that were on the tour. Our guide Dan went at our own pace and was very knowledgeable of the history, flora and fauna and geological aspects of Rupit and the Pyrenees. Best tour and experience of our time in Spain!!! Do it!!!

This was our favorite part of our trip to Barcelona. Martin was the perfect guide, with extensive knowledge of the Catalan heritage. He kept us on track, yet we never felt rushed and he made sure we took in every detail of our beautiful surroundings. He obviously, truly enjoys what he does, and it shows through the way he guides you through the tour. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, we enjoyed an authentic Catalan lunch which was delicious. I highly recommend this tour with Martin, if you enjoy getting away from the bustle of the city for a day, and getting some exercise and breathing the fresh air of the countryside. A truly memorable and wonderful experience!

The views throughout were sensational! The tour guide, Alexandra, was warm, witty, and knowledgeable. The hike ends with a lovely lunch in Rupit. Overall, an unforgettable experience and well worth the money!

Perfect way to get out of the city and see some historic places and really learn about historic and current events. Great food and people. Totally worth every bit of it.

This tour was a welcome experience after being in two big cities, Madrid and Barcelona. It's so nice to unwind in nature and be filled with spectacular views of the pre-Pyranees and a jaw dropping view of the waterfall. Martin, our guide, was exceptional. He was calm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. After our hike, the lunch was wonderful as well. We enjoyed the lesson on how to eat Catalan bread, and what Catalan food was. This was definitely a highlight of our trip in Spain.

This was a great trip to visit Spain's countryside. Our guide,Richard, was very informative and entertaining. This trip included a Catalonia breakfast and lunch. However our voucher did not state that lunch was included. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this trip is for you!
