Pyrenees Mountains Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Head to the Spanish hills for the day to hike the spectacular Pyrenees mountains on a small group excursion from Barcelona by minivan. You'll visit charming mountain villages, travel in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan. On this small group tour, you'll receive personalized attention from your guide.

The first stop on your small group tour is the old market town of Vic and its beautiful cathedral. Next you'll visit the stunning stone-built village of Queralbs, from where you'll catch the rack railway high into the Pyrenees to Nuria.

Here, you can spend the rest of the day exploring the beautiful mountain scenery, following hiking routes, horse riding or boating. See the itinerary for more details.

Please wear warm clothes and good walking shoes on this tour. This tour does not require any special physical condition, but a reasonable level of fitness is needed if you wish to walk in the Vall de la Coma de la Vaca. It's up to you how far and how high you want to go!

Please note: From the 1st of November to the 30th of November due to annual track maintenance, the rack railway will be closed Monday to Friday. In the instances that the railway is closed, we will find an alternative itinerary such as going up into the mountain valley by road or enjoying a mountain walk at lower levels. These changes will in no way take away from your Pyrenees mountain experience.

Beautiful tour and great way to explore the Spanish country side. Our guide Gloria was so friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for getting outside the city for a day!

Trip was disappointed as when we get to Pyrenees it was snowing, ski season was still in full blast as families are still skiing! We were expecting to see the scenery as shown in the picture which was the highlight of the tour, but instead, we spent 2 hours there in the ski resort doing nothing! There were 14 of us on the tour, some of them were in light sweat shirt and shorts, completely unprepared for the weather! We wish the tour agency would let us know before hand on what to expect they must know the situation as the ski resort is still active, cancel the trip or give us an option to skip going up to Pyrenees since we will not be able to do or see anything. Very disappointed as we only have couple of days in Barcelona, and this day was completely shot, could have done some other tours if they let us know before hand.

We enjoyed the trip. Our guide Anna was excellent. She was knowledgeable, very friendly and went out of her way to give us a very good experience. We did another tour with her to Girona and Costa Brava following this and she was once again excellent. One of the best guides we have met

This was a great day! The guide was great, the stops either side of the hiking were lovely, and the scenery was amazing. I would have preferred a bit more time actually hiking, but there are obvious time constraints when you have to drive over 2 hours each way.

This is very pretty mountainous country! For November onwards, do not expect to have ANY hike. Our group did not have that option and at the top of the mountain there was little to do for two hours but be inside. The mountain was very cold with 50 KM winds, which can be common I understand right now. It is stunning mountain scenery but I wish the description of the day would match the season. Also, once at the top any hike would be all too close to the hotel to give a sense of it being away from the area. Our guide however was friendly and knowledgeable, and it was a small group as advertised. Hearing the details of each area was enjoyable.

Great day with beautiful views. My partner really enjoyed the three hour hike up the mountain while I took the more leisurely route on the train. Market in Vic was interesting but not really items I would purchase so we had coffee and pastries at a local bakery. Little towns we visited were quaint and interesting. Great tour guide!

This was a wonderful day trip, visiting the Pyrenees along with walks around Vic and Querabls. Gloria ( and driver, Andres) was our awesome guide and she was so knowledgeable, helpful, and positive. It was my 2nd time in Barcelna but my 1st time on this tour. I’d definitely recommend this tour!

Our tour was serviced by Explore Catalunya and this tour company made the experience worthwhile by giving us the best tour guide ever, Steven. He is full of knowledge, funny and always on hand to give recommendations on other things to do in Barcelona, best restaurants etc. The Pyrenees mountains was beautiful. Nice short hike and tour of small town was awesome._br/_ We recommend this tour for people who love the outdoors.

It really was about the best trip to the Pyrennes that one could hope for in only one day. Our guide, Stephen, was terrific, full of good humor and a lot of information. The stop in Vic was an unexpected delight, and the Valley of Nuria was breathtaking but so localized as to limit the exposure to the mountains. It was here you are, take a little walk, now you have been to the Pyrennes. Adequate really but not as spectacular as one might hope. A nice hour or hour and a half hike to an unexpected valley or peak, even to an area above the treeline, would have been very rewarding. All in all, a very worthwhile trip, Great photo ops.

If you're looking for sight-seeing rather than activities, this may be an ok tour. We saw beautiful views and the towns we stopped in were picturesque. This could be a good tour for those who want to see the mountain but aren't able to hike, as the gondola and cog train do all of the work and give fantastic views. Those looking for an active tour will be disappointed.

Our guide was truly awesome--enthusiastic--welcoming--and informative! We started our LONG day with a tour of Vic and the marketplace, purchasing a few items for lunch there. We had enough 'free time' that we were able to stop in a cafe of espresso and pastries.

The tour was fantastic. Laura, our guide was fun and well versed in the history of all the places we stopped at. I was glad that we had ample time to grab a quick bite and pick up lunch in the market at Vic. She showed us the right places to pick up the best bakery products. The best part of the trip was Nuria Valley. The weather here was pleasant and didn't necessitate any warm clothing since we were in August. The views are magnificent with the lake amidst lush greens. We chose to go by the rack railway upto Nuria valley instead of hiking up the hills which was an option. Once at the lake you can take the cable car further up till the cafe or just relax down here soaking in the incredible beauty of this place. If in Spain, you shouldn't miss the Pyrenees mountains. I'm glad I did it. I wish I had more time to spend here but whatever we explored was totally worth it. Though I would surely hike my way up the next time I'm here as some of my group members had amazing experiences to share. Highly recommended tour.

This was one of the best things I did outside of the city of Barcelona. Just make sure that you visit when Vic has their market day as I don't think the stop there would be worth it if it wasn't for the time we got to peruse the market and buy picnic lunch supplies. There also is no access to restrooms for a couple of hours which for some of us can be an issue. Once you arrive at the mountain, they do say you can hike up to the top or take the cog train. Three people opted for the hike and it was VERY tough even for those who were very physically fit to do in the 2 hour time allotted. The area at the top with the gondolas and lake is spectacular but actually hiking trails are more limited. The guide was very fun and knowledgeable of the area. Would definitely recommend this trip.

This was our favorite part of our trip to Spain. We got to see a whole other part of the country right outside of Barcelona. The views were spectacular and we only wish we had more time to spend in the mountains. The food that we picked up in the town of Vic was delicious.

This experience was fantastic! It was wonderful to get out of the city for a day, and our guide Laura made it even better. She was so knowledgeable about everywhere we stopped, and had such informational and insightful answers to all our questions. Stopping in Vic was so quaint and I loved getting a look at real life in Catalunya. And of course driving up into the Pyrenees mountains provided magical views and a chance to see the great outdoors. I would highly recommend this trip!

The views were incredible if you love to take pictures this is the place to go. The tour guide was brilliant due to it being a small group it made the trip even better. Unfortunately we didn't spend too much time at the mountains would have loved to have the extra one hour.

We know that returning to Spain will likely not happen as there are many places in the world we want to visit, so we decided that a day trip into the Pyrenees was a must for us. Our tour guide did an outstanding job describing details at every point along the way. The stop in Vic on the way there was nice where we enjoyed coffee and pastries. We packed our own lunch which we enjoyed after taking the ski lift tram to the top. The views are magnificent. We were there in August and the temperatures were very comfortable - no jackets needed that day. We wish we could have spent another two hours there which would have given us time to visit the top and boat around the lake.

I really enjoyed this tour, especially the free time to hike in the Pyrenees. We saw waterfalls, cows, marmots, and a chamois. In the town of Vic we saw the big church which had great paintings all over the walls and the old stone bridge. In Querables the tour guide walked us all over town. I would have rather have had some more free time there. It was a unique looking place in a great setting.

It was a most perfect day and the views of the Pyrenees were SPECTACULAR! Definately worth the day trip. We loved that it was a small group trip- it was easy to hear the guide and follow what was going on. Our guide had many handy hints and much information for us so we felt we really got our money's worth on this trip._br/_ The free time we had at the top of the mountain were well spent and we enjoyed relaxing and looking at the views. We bought our own picnic lunch under the direction of our guide and it was a very good idea- eating a baguette with fresh local cheese and salami in the mountains-it was amazing!_br/_ VERY MUCH WORTH THE TRIP!

Our guide Gloria was great. This trip is a long day, but totally worthwhile. About 1.5 hours from Barcelona we go to visit Vic. A charming place, with a medieval section we had a chance to visit, while getting breakfast and food for later in the day. Unfortunately we really didn't have adequate time to see that much here. Another 1/2 hour would have been ideal._br/_ We then headed straight to the train to go up to the Valley. Not a long train ride, but pretty amazing scenery views as the rack train climbs into the mountains. We had hoped to have more time here. So headed straight off for a hike. The views and the scenery were fab. And for us the weather couldn't have been nicer. We had about 1.5 hours before we had to be back for the return train back off of the mountain._br/_ The train stop was Queralbs. Back into bus to visit Queralbs. A remarkably small village in the Pyrenees. worth a small visit._br/_ Overall an enjoyable and fabulous day.

I'm not sure how we managed to get the best guide in Barcelona, but Laura was absolutely fantastic! It was less like a guided tour and more like a friend from another country showing us her homeland. She is incredibly warm and friendly. Not only did we speak of the surrounding areas with their histories, but she was more than willing to discuss cultural similarities and differences as well as the intricacies of Spanish life. The trip is beautiful, the ride was pleasant, Vic was interesting, the train ride was great, and the Nuria Valley is by itself worth the cost of the trip if you have any interest in hiking and enjoying pristine mountain views. Highly recommend. And if you happen to get Laura as your guide, then you will undoubtedly be pleased with your experience.

Worth every penny and more! The mountains were beautiful. Heals the mind and the soul. I was a little disappointed because the boats were not operational and there was no horseback riding since the snows had just melted. But the hikes were worth it.

We had a group of 6 people with diverse interests. We first visited a beautiful village, Vic, then were driven by our tourguide, Anna, to our destination. We took a train through the mountains and arrived at a ski resort. We had one member of our group ski , 3 snowshoed with our guide and two took the tram to a higher peak. We women had a great time bonding at the top of the trail.. Anna was like a friend to us by the time we ended our day. On the way home, we stopped at another historic 11th century village, complete with a church.. simply wonderful. Everything was perfect, and communication with Viator.com was responsive and timely.

We were not told ahead of time that there was 2 feet of snow in the Valley.Consequently when we reached the Valley we were unable to walk around the lake or hike a trail.

This needs better planning. The round trip travel time is approximately 5 hours. I knew this when wanted to go on this trip. We've spent approximately 3 hours in Vic - which was a total waste of time. And another hour or more having picnic lunch in Queralbs, which I didn't join because I had it in Vic because there was so much of time there. The landscape and area is nice - but not worth a day trip which included 40minutes of a hike.

Really great tour. Anna was an excellent guide. Great 2 hour hike through the mountains in northern Spain. The views where breathtaking.

Review by:   greg s,    November 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The location was beautiful. However, the journey could have been better planned. I would recommend a shorter stay in Vic, eliminate the stop in Queralbs at the end of the trip so that more time could be devoted to walking in the Pyrenees. As your destination is Vall de Núria, it may also be helpful to know when the resort opens and closes their restaurants, it was a challenge finding utensils and a place to eat the lunch we purchased in Vic.

Great experience. The Pyrenees are beautiful. The stop in Vic I felt was a little long and unexciting, but I felt that the stop in Queralbs was worth it. The final stop is actually a ski resort at the top of the mountain. There were all kinds of activities to do and trails to climb. I did not feel like there was enough time there to hike but we had plenty of time to hike smaller trails. Definitely worth the trip.

We started out on a bus ride with the Julia, the tour guide to the city of Vic. Julia is bright, interesting and very knowledgeable about the history and politics of Spain. We walked through Vic, had some time to wander on our own, and then headed to the Pyrenees. The ride to the top was exciting with beautiful scenery. Once at the top we were given a good historical overview of the area, told the three places where we could eat and how we could spend our free time. Julia's timelines for hiking were spot on! Unfortunately the food places were closed so several of us were very hungry by the end of long hikes. The top of the funicular is breath taking and I highly recommend it. The hiking was definitely worthwhile!! On the way back to Barcelona we stopped and walked into a small village with very interesting old history. Be prepared to walk! Wear comfortable shoes for uneven surfaces, hills, and mountains. Bring snacks and water!

We had a great trip to the Pyrenees and would highly recommend this activity to anyone considering it. Every part of this trip was wonderful - from the market in Vic to exploring the streets of Queralbs before heading to the Nuria Valley. We appreciated having time to venture out individually, and our guide was informed and went above and beyond to ensure the whole group had a great time.
