Salvador Dali Museum, Figueres and Cadaques Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

This is without doubt, one of the most complete Salvador Dalí tours available. Spend the morning at the unique Dalí Museum in Figueres and finish the day either on his beloved Costa Brava, visiting his home in Port Lligat and the magificent Cap de Creus, or at the castle he built for his wife. It’s a complete surrealistic experience. On this small group walking tour, you'll receive personalized attention from your guide. And by booking ahead, you won't waste any time waiting in line!

Depart Barcelona and set out for Figueres, the birthplace of Dalí and home to the world famous Dalí Museum-Theatre. Explore where he was born on Monturiol Street and also visit the famous museum. Step inside the surreal world of Salvador Dalí and find a museum like none other. Dalí wanted visitors to see his massive collection as a ‘whole’ work, and for this reason he wanted no catalogues and refused to have his works placed in chronological or subject order. Inside is a world of fantasy mixed with architecture mixed with paintings and sculptures. It’s a complete surrealistic experience. The tour itinerary varies:

From September 1 - June 30 (Winter):
Leave Figueres and head to the beautiful coastal village of Cadaqués. Famous for its white washed Mediterranean houses, narrow shady streets, and sandy bay, this is one of the most picturesque villages on the Costa Brava. But what really stands out for many people is the dramatic drive there, which offers some of the best views in the whole of Catalunya. This is the perfect place for lunch. In the afternoon we will travel just a few minutes up the coast to the even smaller village of Port Lligat, the place where Dalí sought the peace and quiet that truly inspired him and where he built his house. Finally, we will move on to Cap de Creus, the most easterly point of mainland Spain and one of the most starkly beautiful coastal landscapes in the whole of the country.

From July 1 – August 31 (Summer):

Leave Figueres for Pubol Castle, once a home of Dalí and his wife Gala, located in the village of the same name. Visit the Gala Dalí House-Museum in the castle, and after lunch (own expense), venture to one of the many beautiful beach side towns that dot the Costa Brava coastline. Please remember to bring suitable clothing if you want to enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea or relax on the beach.

Please note: Dali House will be closed from the 1st of January to the 4th of January and from the 11th of January until the 11th of February. It is still possible to see the house from the outside.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was a long day, but we found the Figueres museum of interest and we're not Dali fans!. Our guide Nicholas I believe was a font of info. Hubby and I actually sat in the front seat of the van so were able to ask several questions en route. We had about 2 hrs. at the museum, which really isn't enough time as there's so much to see. Unfortunately the roads were being repaired as we approached Cadaques, which meant our lunch in this pretty little town was a bit rushed. Dali's near-by house was really interesting. We had about 1 hr. to visit the home the on-site local guide explained what we were looking at, and then we had time to walk the steps to the roof, around the pool area, etc. We did have a comfort stop on the way back to Barcelona, which was welcome! Unfortunately 3 ladies from Mexico were on the tour with us, and at least one of them didn't understand English very well so the guide had to repeat many things in Spanish. We were a bit annoyed as we understood the tour was supposed to be strictly in English. All 3 of them also had some mobility issues, and we had to wait for them several times. Guidance should have been clear that one must be physically able and that the tour was supposed to be strictly English! Also had some difficulty understanding Nicholas from time to time. He knows his subject back-and-forth, but has a very heavy accent, which was sometimes difficult for us.

Very accessible tour. Met at Explore Catalunya -- Small group outing in a minivan. Guide was extremely knowledgeable. Got to see lots of country side, along with the seaside towns. Seeing both the Dali museum and Dail's residence in one day was a special treat.

I Loved the small group size and comfortable van. Guide, sorry forgot his name, was terrific. He focused on little details vs. dates that make any tour feel like a history lesson.

The eccentricity that is Dali on display...a wonderful day with a wonderful tour guide Anna who seems to really love her country and showing it off.

Cam was our tour guide and truly extraordinary. As an art student Cam had a true grasp on the essence of Dali and his surrealistic, prolific work. The information Cam shared at Dali’s museum and home was fascinating. After going on many tours in Europe, my husband and I agreed, “Cam’s was the best!

Wonderful Experience! The tour is fantastic and worth every penny. _br/_ Our tour guide, Feliciano is one of the best tour guides I have encountered. He is just amazing. His knowledge and courtesy make all the difference. He presents the pertinent stories and the history of the places visited in a lively, comprehensive and enlightening manner. During the tour, he also gives an informative talk about Salvador Dalis oeuvre as well as his lifestyle. _br/_ In Cadaques my recommendation would be to just grab a quick bite and take a walk around town and up to the church it is a lovely town, not to be missed._br/_ Thank you very much, Feliciano!_br/_ I highly recommend this tour!

Outstanding guide Anna...knew so much about everything._br/_ My advice...IF the weather is nice not raining skip the optional Dali house tour and stay in Cadaques. It was glorious. I was the only one that didnt go to the house had a fabulous time exploring the town. looks like a Greek island town. Cute shops and aqua water.I had a fabulous time walking the old streets and cute shops. and had a delicious beer overlooking the water._br/_ The road is VERY twisty there and back. If you get car sick, bring your medication. Its a beautiful drive but nonstop twists and turns._br/_ Overall I loved it. _br/_ The Museum itself was fabulous. Its a must for Art lovers.

The Trip was amazing on all fronts: knowledge and courtesy of the guide, the sights to marvel at, the stories and history behind the places we visited, the surrealism of Dali, his lifestyle and his home were just outstanding, not to mention the wild waves and fantastic food in Cadaques...one of the best trips ever!!! Every penny was worth it.

The tour was fascinating. I enjoyed all segments of the tour and it was a nice opportunity to get out of Barcelona and see the countryside of Costa Brava. My favorite segment of the trip was a tour of Dali's home in Port Lligat. It is as eccentric as you would expect. The tour was guided by Arnau who was very knowledgable and personable and gave a very thorough history of Dali and his wife Gala, which helped explain some of the artist's obsessions. I highly recommend this tour and Arnau as a guide!

Our family of seven, including my husband a retired professor of art, thoroughly enjoyed the tour. From the background on Dali, to the history of the area and other Spanish artists, this was a first-rate experience. We had plenty of time to enjoy the Dali theater museum on our own without feeling rushed or hurried along. We would all highly recommend this tour!

One for the Dali's fan. _br/_ The museum in Figueres is weird and wonderful but I would expect nothing less from Salvador Dali._br/_ And the road to Cadaques is quite picturesque and the landscape is rugged and windswept. I 3 it._br/_ Seafood lunch in Cadaques was reasonably priced.

This was a great chance to experience on his own turf the mind of one of the most enigmatic artistic personalities of the 20th century. You don't have to love his work to be intrigued by the mind that created them. Dali started out as a normal artist and evolved into expressing himself in a most unique way. To visit the museum he himself designed and furnished with his works and those of his favourite artists, and then his little beautiful home town, Figueres, and unique home in Cadaques that he transformed himself to get a peek at his private and wild world was so interesting. As a bonus, the drive through the countryside was beautiful. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, irreverent, and good company. The only thing that could have made it better was more time after the tour, to spend at the Dali museum on our own, but we understood that the timing is tight as the drive is quite long. At the museum in Figueres, do not miss the jewelry exhibit. It is truly spectacular! It was a revelation that Dali had also designed jewelry.

This was a great tour for all of us who love Salvador Dali. It is a bit of a ride from Barcelona but what you will see of how this great artist lived away from the light is worth the ride. The museum is like none you have ever seen before and his home is just something you have to see yourself.

Arneau, our guide, related the place of Dali's life, work, and personality within the history of art of the region and the world._br/_ The drive from Barcelona was long but interspersed with vignettes of Dali's personal and professional life and times. Arneau is a master story teller... historian._br/_ The museum itself is a tribute to Dali's perspective of life and his ability to integrate the sublime and the mandate, the sacred and secular, the personal and universal ideas of who we are with each other on the earth in the heavens... for what purpose... you decide._br/_ Having experienced his work in St. Petersburg Fl we now have a complete imprint of his life and work. J and R Naples Florida.

Excellent day trip from Barcelona. I considered arranging the transportation and tickets myself, but considering the cost, stress and time involved, I opted for this tour. Well worth the money. Our group was small 15 and the minivan was comfortable and air-conditioned. Our tour guide Anna was excellent and very knowledgeable about Dali and his life. I could have spent hours at the Dali Museum alone, but this tour allowed me to see all the highlights as well as visit his amazing home and enjoy the scenery along the way and back. While in Cadaques, we had time to enjoy a delicious lunch at any of the charming restaurants facing the sea. Highly recommended!

If you have limited time, this is a great way to fit in the Dali sites quickly. The time at the Dali Theater Museum is a bit tight but we managed to make it through the whole thing hint, the work on the third floor is all very much the same, this stuff that's about images made up of rocks and stones, if you need to skip something. I felt like it was worth it in order to get to also see the house in Figueres, which is really interesting if you're really into Dali. The town of Cadaques where he was born was not so great for us because it was winter and chilly, but probably really great in spring/summer/fall. The guide was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about Dali's life on the bus ride, but he also left plenty of quiet time for those who wanted to nap. All in all, worked out very well for us.

An excellent, in-depth tour with a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who spoke excellent English and walked us through much of Dali's personal history. He gave us a brief explanation in the museum and allowed us free time there, but more explanation was offered outside of the museum and along the road to Cadaques, a pretty almost-Greek like Spanish village of personal import to Dali. I opted not to join the optional tour for Dali's house in Cadaques as I found the village absolutely breathtaking, but those who went to Dali's house found it very worthwhile, so you can't really go wrong there. At the end, the tour guide showed us Dali's collaboration with Disney, Destino on our trip back to Barcelona. I felt like Dali's weird personal history, artistic methods and unique way of seeing the world were much more familiar after this tour. Highly recommended.

This is a very good tour for Dali-lovers.The museum in Figueres is amazing, and he's buried inside it. You get enough time to visit the museum, but not much for having a look around town. The drive to Cadaques is nice, via a mountain pass. It's a sleepy town in winter time, but some nice views. The trip to Dalis house on the outskirts of town is optional, but not to be missed. Half our group chose to stay in town while we visited the museum, which I found strange when you're on a Dali tour. There may not be enough time to have a long lunch if you go to his house, but it's a very interesting place and I would rather eat later than miss it. Among other things you get to see his painting studio. You visit the house with a small group and guide, and the gardens on your own. The driver collects cash for the visit to the house, so remember to bring some. Then back to Barcelona via the same mountain pass. The only thing I didn't like is too much talking on the bus. I would rather hear more about Dali himself, the entire history of Spain and Catalonia is not called for. Also I would have liked it if the passengers were told to please put their phones in silent mode.

Dali day tour was great! We originally planned to rent a car and do it ourselves and we are very glad we decided to book the tour. First, the guide, Arnaud was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about Dali and so much else. Tour allowed for plenty of time at the various venues. Gave us multiple recommendations for lunch in Cadaques rather than one, which is so common on tours. Also gave multiple recommendations for food in Barcelona which were solid.

The sights were stupendous. The down side for us, the guide was only willing to speak English. Two of us spoke primarily Spanish and our guide only used Spanish to explain where to go next or at the end of the tour. The Spanish speakers did not hear anything about Daliss life and works. This is the first time we experienced a guide unwilling to speak to us in both Spanish and English. Other than that, the tour was spectacular.

Rodrigo was an extremely knowledgeable and interesting tour guide. The tour is about 2.5 hours away from Barcelona and he was both the driver and guide of this small group. The van that took us to Girona was small and not very comfortable but well worth it to see The Dalí museum and Cadaqués.

The Museum and Cadaques and Dali's home were wonderful the guide was pleasant, but he left with the rest without me. I thought he had said 3 to meet at a statue, and I heard 3:30. He came back later but by then after 4 I had missed the early portion of our tour. I didn't even see the all rooms. I would recommend that he pick a restaurant and have everyone eat together. He just said pick one, and he could have found me at one he esp. recommended. I was done with my lunch and could have made the 3 pm date if he had just checked. His English is pretty good just a mixup. But I didn't know if he was ever coming back, didn't have his cell phone number, and tried to email/text the Viator number, but they only had my landline number in the US. The museum andthe home were brilliant--loved that part totally. The reason for my lower rating is the guide.

. Would of liked to have done both things ie go to Cadaque for extended time plus go to Dali's home. We chose Cadaque and had lunch at Nun I think that is the name and sat next to some great folks from Spain who spoke excellent English and were willing to share info about the area so it worked out there but felt as though we missed the house since back on the bus people were talking about it.

Excellent experience. feliciano, our guide, was excellent. Had great knowledge and enthusiasm about Dali. Trip was well organized, kept to the time schedule expected, safe journey, comfortable van travel ...would recommend to anyone who enjoys knowing Dali. We beat the crowd at the museum in Figueres and Feliciano advised on areas to see first before the crowds would arrive. We also bought the extra tour thru Dalis home after a lovely lunch in beautiful Cadeques.that too is highly recommended.

My husband and I took this day trip as part of an 11-day trip to Spain that included Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid. As a lifelong Dali fan, it was exciting and meaningful to visit his birthplace and tomb, but especially to visit Port Lligat, where he lived and carried out so much of his work. The museum was incredible, with so many artworks to admire that two hours was just barely enough, but it was worth limiting the time we spent there to fit in the visit to Cadaqués a great place to enjoy some razor clams and cava and look out out at the beach view, which will be eerily familiar to anyone who has seen much of Dali's work and Port Lligat. Dali's retreat and studio are wonderful - well-preserved and well-presented by the local guide, and they also give you a fair bit of freedom to explore the grounds. Our driver and guide both did a great job - it's nice to leave the driving to a local and not have the hassle of renting a car and figuring out local traffic customs, and the guide Nicholas was very happy to field questions. All in all, this was a great value for a full day of experiences I will never forget.
