Tarragona and Sitges Private Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Combine history and the Mediterranean coast on a private day trip from Barcelona to Tarragona and Sitges. You'll travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan to the Roman city of Tarragona, where you’ll see its amphitheater and Old Quarter. Then travel to coastal Sitges, where you can relax, take a walk and go for a swim. Led by a private guide, this tour provides personalized attention to you and your group.

Start your private day trip from Barcelona by traveling back to the days of the ancient Romans in the city of Tarragona, where you’ll retrace the footsteps of Roman gladiators, stand where their chariots raced and walk across the magnificent Roman aqueduct. Visit Tarragona's Old Quarter, with its stunning cathedral where you can enjoy the morning antique market if you’re there on a Sunday. Few tourists make it to Tarragona, and fewer still stumble across this traditional market. It's a great chance to pick up a souvenir from the area or simply explore the beautiful cathedral that looks down on the antique collectors.

Then make your way to the Roman amphitheater, which boasts a lovely sea view. Imagine gladiators battling to the death as you stand on the same dusty ground that bore witness to countless scenes of sacrifice and passion. Its most fascinating feature is perhaps the Christian church, which sits in the middle of the stage and was built out of the same blocks used in the amphitheater.

Leaving Tarragona, you'll visit Roc de Sant Gaieta, a tiny village built on the rocky Mediterranean shoreline. Take a stroll through the town and enjoy coastal views from a seaside bar.

Then it's on to Sitges to enjoy the authentic Mediterranean atmosphere of this old fishing village. Get lost in its shady side streets and admire the whitewashed fishermen's houses. Wind through the labyrinth of streets until you come to the seafront, where you can stop in one of the many cafés and restaurants – Sitges has dining options to suit every taste and budget. After a leisurely lunch (own expense), you are welcome to head off to one of the town’s 17 beaches and go for a swim.

This private tour is hosted by a professional guide. Please list any special interests you have (art, architecture, history, culture) at the time of booking to alert your guide, who will then prepare for your private tour.

Absolutely wonderful!! Our private 4-person tour started with a detailed history of Barcelona on our way out of the city. Our guide was FANTASTIC and took the opportunity to give us an overview of the major sites we saw along the drive to Tarragona. Once in Tarragona, we visited the Roman Aquaduct - fascinating! Then there was a walking tour of the city with free time to explore afterwards. So many ruins and historical places to see - we were intriqued by them all. Next we visited Sitges and were given the opportunity to have lunch, hang out on the beach or simply walk around the city. There was the perfect amount of time for everything. As we headed back to Barcelona, along the coast this time, we were given yet more facts about Barcelona's rich history and culture....our guide made the drive interesting, and we completed our tour with the satisfaction that we had seen some remarkable places and had quite an enjoyable day. A big thanks to our tour guide!!!

This is worth seeing when you're in Barcelona. It gives you a chance to see what's outside of Barcelona in a day. It's cool to go to this remote area and experience how peaceful this area can be outside of the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. Sitges was nice to see as well. It was very touristy, but the scenery was very nice.

Really glad we took the tour since we had only 2 days to go around Barcelona. This took a day off but was worth it. The representative from the Sitges Office of Tourism took us on a walking tour and he switched from Spanish to English without any effort. That was amazing!

The whole day was perfect from start to finish. Our English speaking guide and the driver looked after us all day. The timings were just right, and we loved our hour tour of the beautiful Sitges with time left to wander and have a cool drink. Would love to do it again.

I thought it was one of the best tours I have been on! Our tour guide was very friendly and it was a great way to get out of the city and explore what was around Barcelona. The only thing I did not like was the limited time in Sitges as I feel we were a little rushed. But there are three stops so I felt I really got to see everything. Would HIGHLY recommend this tour.

Everything was well organized, although one hour more or free time in Sitges would be preferred.
