St Kitts Shore Excursion: Panoramic Tour with Optional Brimstone Hill Fortress Visit

St Kitts, St Kitts and Nevis

While you’re in port in St. Kitts, get a full St. Kitts experience with a panoramic tour shore excursion. You’ll tour Basseterre, enjoy gorgeous scenic drives and have the option to enter Brimstone Hill Fortress (if option selected). Don’t miss St. Kitts’ top sights and attractions on this three-hour shore excursion.

In three hours, you can make the most of your time in port in St. Kitts and see some of the island’s best attractions and most beautiful sights on a panoramic tour shore excursion.

First, you’ll drive to the city of Basseterre, where you’ll visit Independence Square, formerly known as Pall Mall Square, and have time to purchase a few gifts if you’d like.

Then, continue along a scenic coastal road to Romney Manor, home of Caribelle Batik fabric. You can see the art of dyeing and drawing on Sea Island cotton and purchase dresses, wall hangings and other accessories at the on-site gift shop.

Your next stop is Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO heritage site. The entrance fee required toward the continued restoration of this magnificent fortress is included in the tour price (if option selected).

You’ll then enjoy another scenic drive to Port Zante, where your cruise ship is docked. Spend any extra time you have shopping and admiring the lovely view before getting back on your ship and leaving St. Kitts.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to Basseterre for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Although we had to wait about 15 minutes at the Kiosk on top of Brimstone Forteress due to a heavy rain, it still was a great tour. Brimstone Hill was the absolute highlight of this tour. The view from the top is incredible - really to be rfecommended.

This was a really good and enjoyable tour which showed the panoramic highlights of St Kitts and also included the optional Brimstone Hill Fortress visit. The latter is a UNESCO world heritage site and is well worth including in the tour of St Kitts. The only downside to this tour was the visit to the Caribelle Batik factory at Romney Manor where there was an additional entrance cost of 3 US person. This caused some confusion amongst some of the group members on the tour and it would perhaps be better to incorporate this cost upfront into the overall price of the tour. Apart from this minor point, this tour is highly recommended as both the tour and our tour guide were excellent.

St Kitts is beautiful and our guide was great - pleasant, courteous and informative. The optional Brimstone Hill fortress visit was too short to take in the history and significant of the stop. There is a minute video presentation that we skipped and instead rented the 10 audio tour. Even with this and moving at a brisk pace we felt rushed to get back at the designated time. This, in addition to the 35 minute delayed start because the van hadn't arrived yet is why we'd rate it good but not great.

This was a pleasant 3 hour tour of St. Kitts with a well informed guide who told us of the history and present day activities. We saw breathtaking views of the coast as well as a visit to a batik factory and a closed sugar plantation once owned by the descendents of Thomas Jefferson. We elected not to go to the fort due to mobility issues and were transferred to another car to return to town after a drive to a photo viewpoint.

This tour gave us exactly what we were looking for. The driver took us on a tour of the island that showcased the gorgeous landscape as well as the urban centre and the new developments. He was willing to stop anywhere for photo opportunities and pointed out all the landmarks clearly. The Batik stop was very impressive and should not be missed! The tour guide was very well informed and answered all questions without hesitation or question. We had some very loud and disruptive guests on our tour and he handled them with grace. I would recommend this tour to get the whole island experience.

Better than I expected. Tour organizer met us at the cruise port terminal at the designated time and led us to a comfortable 14 passenger air-conditioned van. I thought we might be on one of those open-air contraptions that are mounted on a truck, so having an enclosed vehicle exceeded my expectations. The driver was knowledgeable and courteous, and was very accommodating when anyone wanted to stop to take photos. We especially enjoyed the botanical gardens and the stop at Timothys Hill which overlooks the point on the island where the Atlantic intersects with the Caribbean. The tour lasted 3 1/2 hours instead of 3 hours as posted because of extra stops for photos at the beach etc. Very happy that we chose this tour. Not as good as a private personalized tour, but good value for the price.

We did not think the Brimstone Fortress visit was worth 10 additional charge..... mostly it was a good tour, but would have enjoyed more scenic stops for photos. The driver was very personable. SQ he said was his nickname. Enjoyed the scenery, driver was very knowledgeable about the island and willing to answer any questions.

Outstanding! Jermon is very entertaining and knowledgeable, tour design is super efficient. I would highly recommend this one: pick up from pre-arranged spot on time, plenty of stops for pictures, snacks and bathroom breaks, very carefully thought through route of travel. The island is true gem of the Caribbean

we absolutely loved this excursion. We got a complete tour of this beautiful island. We loved what we saw so much that we're going to go back to ST. kitts for a week next year. Our tour guide was a wealth of information. We really can' single out a specific part of the tour because we loved everything about it. we've always had great tours through viator and they are much cheaper than booking thru the cruise line.

An excellent trip that gives a good overall view of this small island. SQ, our super driver , pointed out places and things of interest as we went along. A good excursion to see a lot in a short space of time.

Review by:   John I,    December 2017 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
The tour started poorly as there was a lot of confusion as to where we needed to be in order to be met by the guide. The ship was docked at the commercial pier instead of the cruise ship port across the harbor so we went where Viator told us to go cruise ship port but could not find our guide who apparently ended up at the commercial port looking for us. The local telephone number we were given by Viator was not answered so that hampered our meeting with the driver and guide. Once we finally got together thanks to the gracious assistance of other taxi drivers and tourism personnel we commenced the tour. We were take to the Caribelle Batik factory where we had to pay a 3USD fee which we knew about ahead of arriving there to enter. An explanation of the batik process took about 2 minutes from one of the workers but the main purpose of our stop there was to entice us to buy something at the gift shop. The items for sale were a poor quality of design and workmanship as compared to what we have seen in other parts of the world. In a word, it was junk and a waste of time. Our tour of Basseterre went OK but it was a bit depressing to see the neglect to homes and buildings. The tour was not close to being worthy of what we paid and we were disappointed.

Tour was acceptable with some nice local color. Problem was did not depart until 45 minutes after scheduled meeting time. Was visiting on a cruise ship, and only had limited time, which the operator wasted.

For those interested in this tour and are wondering what the other reviewers are taking about when mentioning SQ, on St. Kitts, everyone has a nickname. Our tour guides nickname is SQ aka smooth and quiet. SQ was is good tour guide giving you all the interesting information you'd expect to learn. Besides visiting the key locations of Brimstone Hill Fortress and Romney Manor, SQ pointed out many other buildings and locations with facts that we're very interesting and not called out on this tour description. The views are epic! The timing spent at Brimstone Hill and Romney Manor was adequate for regular tourists, but as a photographer, I would've have like to spend a much longer time. I would visit these locations again._br/_ SQ was a careful driver, even though they drive on the wrong side joke. We are especially thankful to SQ for pulling over for us on a small strip of clean beach to collect some of the black sand indigenous to the island to take back home. _br/_ Thanks SQ for the fun time!

We had a great time! Really enjoyed touring Brimstone Hill Fortress. The views from there are spectacular! We also enjoyed the Romney Manor visit. The drive to the Fortress and back was right along the Caribbean Ocean and offered some beautiful scenery. We were able to get some pictures of a family of monkeys at the bottom of the hill. They were cute. Thanks for a wonderful time.

SQ was a gentleman and safe driver. Check in was a breeze. The fortress has exceptional views and is not to be missed! The Viator tour is priced below what my cruise charges, so book through Viator instead of through your cruise!

Review by:   Lorie S,    March 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
I booked the trip for a group of 5 ladies. When I read the what to expect section it clearly stated we would go to the Fort but that entrance would be optional. Well we were told we did not book the fort and so would not be driven up the hill to be near it. We stayed in the van for 50 minutes while we waited for another bus to come and take the group to the fort. We were then driven around for our island tour and dropped the beach people off. Clearly they put the 3 different tours together. When I contacted Viator to suggest they revise their site they basically said i had booked the wrong tour. Well I did not book a tour where I planned to be crammed on a bus sitting on the jump seat in the aisle or planned to sit on a bus for 50 minutes or waste time when we detoured to a beach for the drop off. _br/_ We had 2 guides and they were excellent. _br/_ Viator gave us 15 back as refund but did not apologize for the unclear website the crowded bus or the sitting for 50 minutes. Our group would have preferred an apology._br/_ My friends were really disappointed and I felt bad being the organizer._br/_ Suggest you call Viator and make sure you are getting the tour you want.

Review by:   Valerie W,    January 2017 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
I would rate this excellent as a tour except for the tour bus situation. The tour operator mixed multiple tours on one bus leaving the port. We were the second pickup so we were left with only jump seats that had seen much better days. We were jerked and bounced around on seats that felt like the back was going to break. Then we had to wait a long time for a second bus to arrive at the batik location so the second tour could go to the beach. But the Brimstone Hill Fortress almost made up for it. The vista from the top of the Fortress was breathtaking! Our driver, SQ, was fantastic during the entire tour. He even gave those who did the fortress visit and opportunity for a short excursion to the beach and returned from them after dropping us off back at the port.

Brimstone Hill is a must see. They show a 10 minute video about the fort when you get there but that uses up a lot of your time. We skipped the movie--- they have displays throughout the fort that explain the history. As it was we didn't get to see everything.

The guide needs to stop using okay after every sentence. The batik factory was a waste of money You had to pay money to get in to buy their products. Beautiful scenery!

I guess we didn't understand this excursion. We went to the batik factory and thought we were going to the fortress, but not the inside. We found out that in order to see the fortress you needed to pay for the inside. Apparently, there are no beautiful grounds to wander around outside the fortress. We were transferred from our nice bus to an old jeep and taken to a beach. The trip to the beach turned out great. We got free wi-fi at one of the bars, bought 2, 2.00 Caribe beers and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Everything worked like clockwork, the rep was in the right place at the right time the luxury cab was waiting. As with St. Lucia only my wife and I were booked on the trip and it was fabulous, again everything as per the advert but again enhanced by the driver/guide who went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed our experience and his island. Would highly recommend Viator and will definitely be using them again. I was apprehensive about using and prebooking our trips but Viator made our holiday a much more enjoyable experience.

The tour meets at the port but the guide does not arrive until approx 30 minutes before the start of the tour so be patient. The van is comfortable and air conditioned. A relatively quick drive through town on our way to the Romney Manor/Batik Factory. The Manor and grounds have been beautifully restored and are plenty of spots for some great photos. The Batic Factory is a small building demonstrating how the shirts are made and there is a store to purchase the shirts and dresses. About one hour is provided for this stop._br/_ As you travel to the Brimstone Hill Fortress the guide will point out some of the MANY churches on the island and provide interesting information about the island as well. About 45-60 minutes is allotted to see the fortress which is about enough time to go into the fortress but not really enough time to actually read all of the information in the fortress. You do have time to see everything but you must keep moving on your self guided tour of the fortress._br/_ After the fortress we stopped along the ocean at a spot with vendors of food and merchandise. This stop was about 30-45 minutes which was more than enough time. We also saw where the Caribbean sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, very interesting._br/_ Upon return to the port there is enough time to walk around downtown for a bit and to get a bite to eat. The restaurant we ate at had very slow service and the food was just OK. The food offered by a local street vendor was MUCH better and extremely reasonable in price. I wish we would have seen the street vendor first._br/_ This shore excursion is certainly worth the price and a good way to see many parts of the beautiful island.

We met our guide easily from the cruise ship dock. We were 2 of the 4 on this excursion but our tour guide treated us with enthusiasm and took great care of us all day. We traveled in a comfortable van to Basseterre and walked around downtown until it was time to leave for Romney Manor where we treated to a demonstration of batik work. We then moved onto Brimstone Hill Fortress with plenty of time to walk around and explore before we went back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. Along the way we heard local history and inside information and were treated to a local beer/soda while we waited for another couple to join us.
