Half-Day Small-Group Tour to American D-Day Beaches from Bayeux

Bayeux, France

Explore Omaha Beach and gain insight into US soldiers’ role in World War II on this small-group half-day D-Day landing tour from Bayeaux. Visit key sites of WWII interest including Omaha Beach and the Pointe Du Hoc with a guide, and learn of the conditions faced by the US soldiers brought into battle. Wander among the soldiers’ graves at the American Cemetery, and hear tales and anecdotes from the WWII trenches. Enjoy personal attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 15 people.

Choose a morning or afternoon tour, then hop into your air-conditioned minivan in central Bayeaux and head out to the Normandy coast — site of the famous D-Day landings of WWII. Along the way, listen as your guide sheds light on the sacrifices and hardships faced by the US soldiers involved on June 6th, 1944.

During your 4 and half hour tour, take in top sites of interest including Omaha Beach — widely considered to be the site where the most violent fighting took place — and the German gun battery positions along the Pointe Du Hoc.

Visit the American Cemetery — home to the graves of the US soldiers who paid down their lives for peace — and perhaps pay your respects. Gain insight into the conditions faced by the US soldiers and their German adversaries, and hear stories, facts, and anecdotes dating back to WWII.

Explore the sites at your leisure during free time, then return in comfort to central Bayeaux where your tour will come to an end.

This was a great tour .... our tour Lloyd was very good. An adequate amount of time was allowed at each location and we learned a lot. Very inspiring and educational !! This was a great truly small group tour. We would recommend going early in the am and it seems like you have the experience to yourself. Not crowded at all. This was an AAA experience !!

Nick was our tour guide... He was absolutely amazing. The depth of his knowledge and the passion with which he shares it has left my father and I with a memory of a lifetime. The 4 hours just flew by. Nick really shined in the moments of waiting for others to come back to the van to move on to the next spot. He was engaging and willing to answer questions. This trip to Normandy with my father is/was a trip of a lifetime and Nick made it that much more special. Thank you Nick.

We had a wonderful experience. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and had a passion for history. If you're in France, Normandy is a must. We spend the perfect amount of time at the key locations and were able to appreciate what we were witnessing with the detailed context our guide provided. Additionally, he went above and beyond in putting us in contact with people who could assist us with travel plans as necessitated by the train strike.

The visit itself was great. The tour guide just ran thru his info without much personality. We also did not have enough time to explore out on our own.

What a wonderful and moving afternoon. Mike was our guide and it was very clear that his knowledge was stellar and his compassion was real. The van was very comfortable and the videos shown along the way were very informative. If you have a choice, get Mike for this tour. He really made a difference. If you have time, visit the town of Bayeux where you are picked up for this tour. This little town has so much to offer. Museums, cathedral and outstanding restaurants.

Mike is awesome! Truly passionate about WWII and making sure you have the best possible trip. He's a huge history buff and takes part in reenactments in his free time so he knows all the little details to provide you with the perfect context as you witness the sites. In fact, he's been to the cemetery so many times that a guy in our group asked for help finding a relative's grave and Mike knew exactly where it was! Plus the people at the visitors center all know him. Highly recommend this tour!

This far exceeded our expectations!! Mike is THE BEST! He is professional, personable, passionate and knowledgeable - he could answer every question anyone asked him. He made D-Day come alive in such a personal way seasickness, food poisoning, drowning, sinking tanks...... When we were standing on the beach in the cold no one else around to distract us Mike's account enabled us to imagine what it must've really been like for the troops on that day. We laughed and cried. The ceremony of lowering of the flag and folding it at the American cemetery while hearing taps was very moving. The van was comfortable and it was helpful to see short videos while driving from one site to another. The bunker was such a fortress - being in it one could imagine the Germans in there with coils of barbed wire in the foreground and having the vantage point of looking down on our boys coming onto the beach and gunning them down. They were sitting ducks and yet our troops didn't give up. If you don't believe in fighting for our freedom......just take this tour with Mike and learn what it was REALLY like to be one of the Allies on D-Day storming the beach of Normandy.....tears, admiration and respect for these guys and their families who were so brave to fight for our freedom. I highly recommend this tour and Mike!!

This was an amazing tour !Our guide Andy was passionate about the history surrounding the D-Day beaches and his enthusiasm was infectious. Even if you are not a history buff, you could not help but be interested and engaged in this piece of World War II lore. I thought that the tour hit the important sites/beaches and appreciated the detailed explanations of the attack strategy as well as personal stories about some of the veterans who fought there. In addition to being informative, it was a moving experience. While some may want a full day tour, we were only able to do a day trip from Paris, and we felt like we had a fulfilling experience,

Nothing like a small group tour to learn a lot about what there is to know about about the Allied landing in the Normandy area. We heard about many strategies employed for the landing and the setbacks that had to be overcome to eventually be successful, although at a very high cost of life...Lives given selflessly so that freedom could come to all. As we toured the bunkers and the beaches and finally at the American Cemetery, we continued to get choked up about the many sacrifices made back then for our freedom now. This was an historical and solemn tour that we would recommend to anyone. The easily compares favorable to our tour of Pearl Harbor, many years earlier when we last go those feelings of solemnity, gratefulness, pride, awe, respect and sadness all rolled together. Don't miss this tour. We had a british guide for our English-speaking tour and he was very knowledgeable about the War.

Our guide was very kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. His tour information was interesting and he made sure that our older family member was able to see most of the sites we visited while still making it back to meeting points on time. The walking around some the sites are not the most mobility friendly for those with issues if you are limited on time but he made sure to inform us and his time table recommendations were spot on. Our family members were able to see what they were interested in and more. Wish I could remember his name, younger British guy. Super nice and we were impressed by the tour setup itself and ride in the van as well.

We certainly could have rented a car and toured the D-Day Beaches on our own, but are so glad we selected this tour. Our local guide was personable, knowledgeable and offered the right mix of time as a teacher and time for us to be alone taking in the sites and feeling the emotions that flooded us. Jon made the experience alive with his large book of real photos showing the US Army Rangers at Ponte du Hoc and soldiers at Omaha Beach. We could imagine their presence and what they were actually doing as we absorbed the reality and importance of their mission that day. From the beaches were were silenced as we walked through the American Cemetery. What a moving experience. An added feature of the trip was video provided on the van that included clips from The Longest Day and other films that helped prepare us for the morning. We'd definitely recommend this trip.

The half-day tour of Utah and Omaha beaches could not have been better. About eight of us were on a comfortable van and our Tour Gude/Driver, Florent, was really excellent. He has researched the relevant history of the invasion and has personally interviewed hundreds of surviving veterans, some over 100 years old, to perpetuate their personal experiences for posterity. Some had never discussed their horrifying experiences before, even with family. There were some really touching and moving tales told. He is very young to have such knowledge and clearly has great empathy for this aging service people. He made the tour very personal and touching.

Charlie brought us into the events of D-Day with a clear, concise and compelling narrative that provided an overview I will long remember. Standing on Omaha Beach - placid and calm as any beach the day we toured - was the highlight as he recounted the staggering statistics and highlighted the key moments of the invasion. In short, highly recommended!

This was a good tour, I'd recommend it. My only reason for 4 stars is that it rained the whole tour and that took away from the experience. Our tour guide was good, and the tour itself was tremendous.

The half day tour was wonderful. Our guide, Llyod was prompt, cheerful and very knowledgeable. He gave us many details of the D Day landings that were not so well known. We were able to climb thru the German gun sites and bunkers. To see the cliffs that tha Rangers had to scale under gunfire at Pointe du Hoc was impressive. Being able to walk on Omaha Beach was such a solemn experience. The sight of all the crosses at the American Cemetery makes the sacrifices of those soldiers on D Day so much more than numbers in a history book. The half day tour was very good but if you are a history buff perhaps try the all day tour for even greater coverage. Thanks Llyod for sharing your knowledge in such a delightful way.

Met at Bayeux Shuttle office at 1 rue Larcher. Walked to Place Quebec with our tour guide where the other tourists were waiting. Group total was eight people. We went to Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American military cemetery. The tour guide provided adequate free time to explore all the sites on our own. The tour guide provided a minimum amount of information presentation sheets but could have been better informed on the sites and history to provide more details and to answer fully the questions posed. The guide spoke English but she was difficult to understand and to hear when on site and in the shuttle vehicle through the microphone. She also had difficulty understanding the sense of some of the questions posed to her. The video in the back seats of the shuttle stopped working which made the shuttle drive less interesting for those in the rear seats. Apparently Bayeux Shuttle is a newer company for these D day tours.

We didn't have a lot of time so the half day suited us just right. Would definitely recommend to others.

Wow! This was one of our all time favorite tours after a three month stay in Europe. Mike was very knowledgeable, polite, and well-spoken. He went out of his way to help the other couple we were touring with in finding locations her father had been stationed at during the war. We learned so much on this tour, both from Mike and the short informative videos shown on the drive. Thank you for a memorable experience!

This is a great tour to take, and the guide was excellent. We deviated from the original plan and stopped at the American Cemetery before going to Omaha Beach so that we could experience Retreat of the two American flags and then the playing of Taps. It was very moving to be there during this ceremony.

Four of us booked a half-day tour so we could make a day trip from Paris. At the end we realized 4 hours is barely enough to cover Pointe de Hoc, the American Cemetery and Omaha Beach. Our guide Clive was outstanding, providing right mix of history and free time. I highly recommend this trip!

Review by:   Lisa S,    October 2016 Review: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended
AMAZING!!!! Clive was an knowledgable guide He had a great sense of humor, but was appropriately sensitive of the experience. We loved our Half-Day Small-Group Tour. Our family of 5 made up half of the people in the tour. Such a small group allowed Clive to answer every and all questions. My son is a huge WWII buff, so we made the drive from Paris to Bayeux. My husband, who complained about the drive time on the way there, did nothing but rave all the way back to Paris. Next time we will probably take the train. The experience inspired me to write to following prayer for my 18month old daughter who was with us._br/_ A Mother's Prayer: May you and your children always be free to run across the windswept cliffs of Normandy as you did today. Never take for granted, the sacrifice of the men who rest below your feet. The offering of their lives, created the cool green grass below that you ran upon. Never forget their great sacrifice, my little one. It was all for you.
