2-Day Small-Group Beijing Boutique Tour: Forbidden City, Mutianyu Great Wall, Summer Palace and Temp

Beijing, China

2 days small group tour with our expert guide in Beijing, visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and more including lunches in local featured Chinese restaurants.

Day 1: Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, and Mutianyu Great Wall

  • 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM: Hotel pick-up, visit Tian'anmen Square. Your guide will be waiting for you in the lobby in the morning. A comfortable car will transfer you and your guide to historic Tian’anmen Square where the famous Chairman Mao's portrait is hanging on the wall of the Gate of Heavenly Peace.
  • 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM: Visit Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is the world’s largest imperial palace with 9,999½ imperial chambers, home to 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420–1911). Your tour guide will help you explore 10 carefully selected places in the Forbidden City, recommended by our local experts, while other group tours only visit 6 spots briefly.
  • 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: In the afternoon travel 1.5 hour from downtown Beijing to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and enjoy lunch at Xinshuangquan (a Beijing local restaurant) before driving to the Great Wall of China.
  • 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Visit the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu. In the afternoon you'll visit the most beautiful part of the Great Wall at the Mutianyu section where it is less crowded and has better views than other sections of Great Wall. We will use a cable car to ascend and descend from the Great Wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes climbing steps.
  • 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Transfer back to your hotel.
Day 2: Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and Jingshan Park.
This day you'll deeply explore Beijing by visiting the famous imperial garden - Summer Palace and walk the most beautiful part of the palace - the West Lake. After having a Beijing local-style lunch, you'll visit Temple of Heaven where the emperors used to pray for rain and good harvest. Later you'll have a birds-eye view of Beijing city and the Forbidden City by visiting the Jingshan Park. After that, your guide and driver will transfer you back to the hotel - making a perfect end to your Beijing panoramic tour.

Good experience seeing so much of Beijing and the Great Wall all in 2 days. It's a perfect way to do your 72 hour visa. The guide, Cactus, was very helpful.

We were indeed a small group. I was amazed at the way the chauffeur and guide could predict the exact times when we would be picked up in the midst of heavy traffic. I would have liked more information from the guide. I had read quite a bit before going and I felt the guide fell short in his descriptions, I was waiting for some inside story that never came. However, I did not sense the same interest and curiosity from my fellow tourists so maybe the guide kept it short to accommodate the group. He answered my questions but did not expand further. That being said, he was friendly, respectful and punctual.

Excellent 2 day small group tour. We only had total of 6 people on day 1 and 3 on day 2. Susie was our guide and she was very nice and informative, Mr Joe our driver. Had lunch and 2 different restaurants and the food was great. Couldn't fault this tour at all and would highly recommend it.

This was an excellent tour - well worth the money. Our guide was Smile from Chinahighlights.com and she was very friendly and helpful. Her English was really good and we had no problems understanding her. We were a small group of 7 people so she gave us individual attention and answered all our questions. The Forbidden City was very crowded but we had individual head sets so it was easy to hear everything the guide was saying. Lunch was provided on both days and they were family style authentic lunches which we all enjoyed. At the Great Wall, we used the chair lift to go up and the toboggan to come down and we were given almost 2 hours of free time to hike. It was a long day but well worth it. The second day was as per the schedule as well and we finished around 4pm. No shopping stops and no sales pitch. Definitely recommend.

Excellent tour! Only 2 of us plus guide MandySyau Syau. Mandy is very knowledgeable and gave us a great commentary whilst indulging our whims for photos and diversions. She looked after us very well, making sure we didn't get lost but giving freedom. Meals were excellent and I still want the recipe for the potato and eggplant dish in Mutianyu. She was adaptable with the itinery, working around weather issues that may otherwise have stopped us visiting the Great Wall. As it was, we jagged excellent weather for the wall and got some great photos and brilliant memories with Mandy and the tour. Can't recommend it highly enough._br/_ The only thing that would have made it at all better would be better visibility from the vehicles. I am fascinated by the suburbs and life in China so a great view from the cars would have been the icing on the cake. _br/_ Thanks Mandy Syau syau

I have been very lucky to visited quite a few places around the world, but I have to admit, that this tour was one of the best I have experienced. Rock our guide made the tour enjoyed and very interesting. You get to visit all the major sites around Beijing. on the first day there was a maximum of five people and day two only two of us. The first day was the best with the Forbidden City and the Great Wall which is absolutely amazing, an experience I will never forget. The second day was interesting but the weather wasn't so good so you could enjoy the Summer Palace as perhaps you would have done say later in the year when the weather was better. The advantage of visiting in March is that there is not so many tourists so it is not a scrum to get to see everything, we practically had the wall to ourselves.

We were in Beijing for only two days and this was a great way to see as much as we could. I liked the small tour size, which made a huge difference. The mutianyu wall wasn't crowded at all and it was awesome to not waste time by taking the cable car up and back. The forbidden city was extremely crowded even though it was a rainy day. I can't image dealing with the crowds on a sunny day. 2 of us actually got lost from the group which was a little scary because there were thousands of people. The tour guide was able to find us and bring us back to the group. The lunches included were a sandwich meal at subway and the next day was a traditional Chinese restaurant. We didn't mind subway, because the food can be interesting sometimes, so subway was safe for us. Be prepared for the restrooms that might shock a first time American to China. All in all I would definitely do this tour again to get another great overview of Beijing in a short amount of time. I do wish the days could have been flip flopped based on the weather as it would have been nicer to see the wall with sunshine instead of rainy.

This tour is a great introduction to Beijing. It covers many of the landmarks and key photo opportunities described in may guidebooks like Lonely Planet, and Insights. While the descriptions of sites can be improved from an English tourist perspective, Jerry is a young, enthusiastic, helpful and extremely courteous tour guide. I'm sure his skills will only improve with time. I'm used to Chinese English as I've worked with many people from China. I can understand the choice of words well. I can say many of the other tourist in our group have no problem understanding Jerry. I hope to see Jerry in future tours in Beijing.

Great time Cactus took great care of us. First day we had three in our group. The second day there was only two our other person had to get a flight out due to work. Our guide took great care of us. She picked local restaurants food was very nice and we all had plenty to eat. Cactus was helpful in many way great knowledge of the places we went and knew her history. Her in English could be understood by all members of out group. Her fast pass got us into many places without having to wait in long lines and her timing of the great Wall part was wonderful we were able to get pictures of ourselves on the Great Wall without crowds of people in the back ground.

The tour guide was good. However, the guide was hurrying for every place. Not left much place to see, room around, took pictures. The first day tour was ended before 6 pm and 2nd day tour ended before 4pm. Wish had spend more time for most places. We kind of rushed out. Only two hours at great wall is really less. Wish the tour includes some small gifts for us to take. I think the amount is enough to cover for this kind of small items.

Booked this tour because we wanted to see all the major sights in a relatively short time without incurring the expense of a private tour or being herded around from shopping stop to shopping stop in a large tour bus. The tour delivered on these expectations 100, all the must-see places were covered, no jade factories etc. included and a reasonable amount of time considering the ambitious schedule was allowed at each stop. Our tour guide, Sarah, was the sweetest and most accommodating person with very capable English skills and a vast knowledge of Chinese Imperial history.

The guide was very knowledgeable about the area and informative the entire time we were on the bus/at the site. The tour had a great pace. The group was larger than I would have liked. I like a more personalized tour. The tour didn and #39;t include any water bottles like some of the tours have on the bus.

We had an amazing time on our small group tour. Our Guide Jane was a joy to be with. Her knowledge of the many places we visited and her willingness to join in to the activities was a treat. We also ate at restaurants that were popular with the locals. Our car was comfortable and clean and miraculously appeared at our exit gate. I thought the tour was well planned and enough time provided to see what you needed to see. No part of the tour was cut short, there were no tourist traps and I thought it was commendable that Jane and the driver were so accommodating to our questions and needs. Recommend this Tour. Hope you get Jane as your guide..

Tour description indicated that lunch on the first day would be at a western café, we ended up at a Subway. Tour description indicated the ride up to Great Wall of China would be with a cable car. We ended up taking a chair lift. I have fear of height, hence the ride was fearful. Good overall.

Tour was great, saw a lot in two days. This tour requires a LOT of walking on uneven surfaces/stairs so be prepared. The included lunch on Day One was at Subway yes, Subway sandwiches at the Great Wall and not at other restaurant as publicized. Lunch on second day was much better. Six people on tour and our guide and driver were very knowledgeable and punctual. No spare time on this tour!!!

Excellent tour. Our guide Mark was great. However our van had NO air conditioning and was unbearably warm. I give Mark 5 stars and the van a negative 5 stars.

Angela was a superb guide, for me solo and some Aussies. I can't believe the many places with visited in just two days, yet she made it all so relaxed and unhurried. Angela really listened to us and modified the tour accordingly, such as going to a neighborhood restaurant with locals that was fabulous. And we got delightful inside stories that made the places and people come alive. She also gave us great tips for dinner places and further travel--including arranging tickets to the Peking Opera. She's so professional--and totally adorable.

Our guide, Jerry, was excellent. He was able to answer any question we had about the sites we visited and about China and its history. We had a small group, just 3 of us, which was ideal. And we got to see all of the major sites in two days without any hassles.

I joined a small group total of 5 for a 2 day trip with our guide Susie._br/_ She is a very bright girl and gave us a good insight in all the attractions. Even for me as a nonnative speaker, her English was easy to understand. _br/_ We visited the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City on Day 1, Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park and Summer Palace on Day 2. _br/_ The organization was excellent she even adjusted the schedule based on traffic conditions. The driver dropped us right in front of the site and picked us up just minutes after we left, losing virtually no time. For lunch she picked local restaurants with amazing Chinese food for everyone to share._br/_ Her knowledge of the attractions is really good. So even regarding the limited time it were only 2 days for all these major attractions after all, she gave us a good insight in the history of these places and always had some interesting background stories to tell. _br/_ After the tour we exchanged mobile numbers and she sent over all photos she took from the group or of me within hours. _br/_ Great Service, great tour, great guide! I will never forget these 2 days I spent in Beijing.
