Kiss goodbye to your fears of Chinese food shopping on this 2-hour small-group culinary walking tour. You'll learn the ins and outs of shopping for food the Chinese way, discover a host of new flavors, and learn how to incorporate them into your own dishes under the tutelage of a knowledgeable local guide.

Greet your tour guide and small group at Gulou subway station at 10am.

From here it's a short walk to one of Beijing's freshest and most vibrant markets – the same place where some of Gulou Dajie's fashionable chefs shop! Soak up the colors, scents, and flavors, as your guide explains the art of Chinese food.

You'll learn about typical Chinese ingredients, and how to buy and prepare them. You'll explore the different spices, sauces, and condiments used in China's different cuisines, and get an introduction to some of the basic components of traditional Chinese medicine.

Over the course of the tour, you'll have time to stop for tastings and purchases: bring your shopping bag to pick up some of the freshest ingredients in town.

Your tour will end at noon in the market. Your guide can give you directions to the subway if you can't remember the way, or help you find a taxi.
