Be a Real Beijinger For a Day: Tai chi, Dumpling Making and Cycling in Hutongs
Beijing Region, China
Venture into Beijing on this full-day tour. You will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide, who is both friendly and professional. Enjoy a morning exercise in the park, make Chinese dumplings and use public transportation just like the locals do daily.
Meet your guide at the lobby of your hotel in Beijing city centre (8:00am). Then follow your guide to Jingshan Park by public transportation. After a leisurely climb to the top of the Jingshan Hill you will have a bird’s eye view of the Forbidden City, in the early morning when it is not so crowded. Then you will have the opportunity to join the local citizens in their morning activities like the ribbon dance, Tai Chi, etc.
Accompanied by your guide, you will visit the local market to purchase the fresh vegetables and other ingredients you will need to prepare your lunch. Once you reach a traditional courtyard, enjoy the relaxed ambience to learn how to make Chinese dumplings and local dishes. After finishing the cooking process, you can eat your handmade local delicacies for lunch.
Continue the tour following your guide to rent a bike and ride through the old streets of Beijing, also known as “Hutongs”. After a while, you will start your next activity at a local store drawing the famous “Peking opera mask or the Beijing-style Rabbit” with the owner.
To complete this amazing tour, you will enjoy a traditional tea ceremony at a tea house close to the Drum and Bell Towers square. You will then return your bike and bid farewell to your guide.Traveler Reviews

This was a great tour and Joe did a fantastic job. We covered A LOT of ground on our tour and it lasted approximately 8.5 hours from hotel pickup to drop off. We did 4 private tours during our recent visit to Beijing and in my opinion this tour was the best. It gives you a really good feel of the city and the local way of life which is always nice to see instead of only seeing the main tourist spots.
