Group Great Wall Hiking Tour from Jinshanling to Simatai West

Beijing, China

Experience the wild and isolated Great Wall at Jingshanling Great Wall. Far from the tourists and crowds. Enjoy the natural scenery and original unrestored Great Wall at Jinshanling Great Wall. Hike 6km to Simatai West might be a little challenging, but really interesting and worthy of your efforts. Missing Jinshanling Great Wall should be a pity in your China tour.

Note: Jinshanling Great Wall is closed from June 1 for about 4 months (TBD). During this period of time, you will start the tour from Gubeikou Great Wall instead.

Depart from the meeting point  at 8:30am, and head up to the entrance of Jinshanling Great Wall. It takes an average of 3.5 hours to cross through 22 ancient towers, on rugged up and down mountain inclines from Jinshanling to Simatai West

What a challenging but amazing experience it makes! Because of the terrain, the last 1.8 miles to Simatai Great Wall was closed by the local government. However, we take you right up to the west edge of Simatai Great Wall. The whole trip of hiking is approximately 3.7 miles.

As the most popular hiking trip of Great Wall around Beijing, it will show you both Jinshanling Great Wall and west Simatai Great Wall sections within 3 hours. Due to the recent closure of Simatai section, we cannot walk through all the way to Simatai. We will walk from Jinshanling Great Wall eastward to Simatai West, to the 22nd tower. You can also take the cable car to go directly from the 1st tower to the 16th tower and then hike the rest, just that you need to pay the cable car ticket by yourself. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages.

This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

You will visit the best parts of the Great Wall (Jinshanling Great Wall). Unlike other sections of the wall that are crowded by tourists and vendors, this section of the Great Wall is rather tranquil, and the stones that make up the ruins are hundreds of years old, most of them even in their original condition. The views are some of the most breathtaking ones that you'll see all around China.

Your group hiking tour guide is highly trained to be friendly and patient travel companions. After this adventurous day, please sit back and relax in our air-con vehicle to transfer you back to Beijing

Note: Jinshanling Great Wall is closed from June 1 for about 4 months (TBD). During this period of time, you will start the tour from Gubeikou Great Wall instead.

Great tour if you want to see a less touristy area of the wall. The walking was tough at times but the views were worth it. You need a moderate level of fitness. Jan was a fun and friendly guide, but really you are left to your own devices on the walk. We didn’t mind though as we preferred it.

I wanted a challenging section of the Great Wall and this was exactly what I was looking for. We were able to explore this area at our own pace. The wall is restored in some sections and unrestored in others. The scenery of the wall and the hillsides were spectacular, especially in spring when the trees are flowering._br/_ Our tour guide Jen was very informative about the area and it's history . I especially want to thank her for helping me retrieve my phone when I forgot it on the bus.

The trip was fabulous. The hike is pretty decent so wear proper clothing. Jen was a great tour guide. The hike is pretty much on your own and there were lots of chances to get the perfect photo. I would do this tour again.

THE EXCURSION WAS VERY GOOD. THE ONLY LOOSE POINT IS THAT MY PARTNER COULD NOT GO FOR HEALTH PROBLEMS AND THEY DID NOT RETURN MONEY

A comfortable ride to the site with a guide to get us up to the wall and then we walked along the wall on our own at our own pace. The guide met us at the end point for the ride back to Beijing. This wall section is great; picturesque and no crowds.

This Great Wall tour with May as a guide was awesome! It is a further drive than some other segments of the Great Wall and my tour was also in November, so we had it almost completely to ourselves. May was very informed, providing good conversation on the drive back and forth and also while hiking the wall. She is also and excellent photographer so she made sure we all had great photos of ourselves with the wall. It was a highlight of my visit to China! thank you May and Backpackers Hostel!

7km trek along the top of the wall in beautiful and peaceful surroundings away from the crowds. Our tour guide Mei was super helpful and friendly. Totally recommended

Terrific experience. The meeting point is easily reachable by public transport. The section of the wall we visited was truly beautiful and it was only our group walking it along, so at some point, you found yourself completely alone along this marvellous piece of engineering. The surroundings are equally beautiful, with sections of the wall being taken over by the forest. The guides were also very friendly and showed a wide knowledge about Chinese history and the wall construction, a pity I do not properly remember their names I think one was Yen?. We were very happy to have skipped the crowds choosing this tour. 100 recommendable!

We missed out on this trip. We were unable to reach the destination on time via the Beijing underground due to the congested train system. Despite leaving at 5.30am for an 8.30am departure. We suggest not booking this trip unless you are in the vicinity of the Beijing Backpackers Hostel departure point.

This was an ideal tour for us. My brother and I simply had to make our way to the Downtown Packpacker's Hostel in central Beijing. We were given simple instructions and maps to help us get there, and it was indeed very simple to find the hostel. From there we got a coach all the way to Jinshanling without stopping. Our tour guide gave us some information when we departed, spoken in good English. When we arrived we were given directions and then mostly left to ourselves to tackle the 6km hike at our own pace, but with a final meeting time at the end of the route. This allowed us to explore it was we liked. The weather was nice and we were able to see for miles in all directions and truly experience the scenic beauty of this marvellous location. We then headed straight back to Beijing. The whole trip was ideal for us and I would highly recommend it. The wall itself was, of course, amazing. Definitely something to tick off the bucket list.

Simply amazing. A must for those who are looking for a Great Wall adventure as well as a tour. Not for the faint at heart. Must be fit because of the steep stairs and crumbling sections of the wall. However, you are richly rewarded with spectacular views.
