Mutianyu Great Wall Private Day Tour with Transfer in Beijing
Beijing, China
The Great Wall is a breathtaking sight and an awesome experience all travelers must do when in Beijing. This self-guided hike may be a little challenging at times, as it ascends from the valley floor to the top rampart, but the reward of viewing the wall running for miles like a dragon over the mountainous terrain is an experience that you will never forget.
Your driver will pick you up from your downtown Beijing hotel around 7:00am (or 1:00pm) and then drive you to Mutianyu Great Wall, which is located in Huairou County, 75 km north-east from the center of Beijing.
The Mutianyu Great Wall was constructed under the famous General Xu Da and is one of the best-preserved parts of the wall; serving as the main northern defense for the capital and imperial tombs during the times of ancient China.
Expect to arrive to Mutianyu around 8:30am (2:30pm). The self-guided round trip hike is 6 km and takes an estimated time of 2 hours. You can hike up the side of mountain to the wall or take a cable car (at your own expense). Then you can walk over the wall passing several watch towers for different views. On the way down, you can either walk, or take the cable car or toboggan (at your own expense).
The Wall is beautifully surrounded by dense woods and rich pastures that change colors with the seasons. You should finish the hike around 10:30am (4:30pm) and then your driver will return you back to your hotel in Beijing at around 1pm (7pm).
