Byblos and Jeita Grotto Day Trip from Beirut

Beirut, Lebanon

On this exciting day trip from Beirut to Byblos and Jeita, visit one of the oldest towns in the world and see the amazing Jeita Grotto, one of Lebanon’s most stunning natural wonders. Hear from your guide about the rise and fall of nearly two dozen successive civilizations in Byblos, one of the richest archeological areas in the country. Then be enchanted by the Jeita Grotto, a system of limestone caves.

Your tour starts in Beirut, where you’ll meet your friendly guide and travel 22 miles (36 km) north by comfortable coach to ancient town of Byblos. One of the oldest towns in the world, Byblos dates back at least 7,000 years and today is a thriving modern town with a mix of sophistication and tradition.

See Byblos’ medieval Roman port, the city’s main tourist hub, and go with your expert guide to popular area landmarks, including Byblos Castle and extensive ruins from Neolithic times to the crusader era. The beautiful Mosque of the Sultan Abd el-Majid adds to the cultural mix in the old part of Byblos.

Continue your day trip to Jeita. This fascinating town is home to one of the world's most beautiful sets of caves – the Jeita Grotto – which was a finalist in the New7Wonders of Nature, a 2011 competition for the best natural wonders on the planet.

Visit the lower caverns by boat on a subterranean lake, and then see the dry upper gallery on foot with your guide. The main source of the Dog River (Nahr El Kalb) rises from this incredible cavern.

When you’ve filled up your camera with photos of this incredible Lebanon attraction, return to Beirut in the relaxing comfort of your luxury coach.

Please note: Though the US Department of State has issued a warning against travel to Lebanon due to safety and security concerns, Viator’s Lebanon tours continue to operate with no disruptions. This was a wonderful trip. The Jeita Grotto was breathtaking and our tour guide had so much history and information to share in Byblos. We did 3 tours with Viator and our tour guides were all really knowledgeable and full of information. It really made our trip...

We enjoyed the tour. We found all the places very interesting. Our only criticism is more free time would have been better in Byblos. We needed to stop for a drink and then had no time to look around the souk.

Wonderful experience! We were very pleased with our tour. The hotel pickup was exactly on time as the company said and we were transferred into the office. The bus was also punctual and the guide was full of great information on the drive up. First stop were the Jetta Grottos - which were spectacular. Unfortunately, you cannot take pictures inside, but the caves were incredible. Next we went to Byblos - which is spectacular. The ruins are very interesting and you get a sense of the true history of the civilizations. Most of the people on our bus were continuing on for a full day tour. We had opted for the half day - in hindsight, I wish we had stayed for the full trip and the stop at Harissa.

Well the tour was great but there was one thing which made it awful. We paid 70$ roundtrip for this tour and after the last thing to see we were just left there to fend for ourselves and get a taxi back to Beirut!! This taxi cost an additional 25$ which we didn't want to spend. There was a mis communication between Viator and local travel group. Very disappointed in the customer service on both ends and I will be very skeptical to use Viator again. Who books a one way tour anyways?

Had a great time. Everything went very smoothly, and in a timely manner. Not too fast and not too slowly. It's a great way to see lots in a short time period. I just wish we could have done the full day tour that includes Harissa.
