Walk along the Berlin Wall, stroll down Unter den Linden to Brandenburg Gate, see the Reichstag and Holocaust Memorial, hear the story behind Checkpoint Charlie and learn about the Topography of Terror museum. Listen as your guide ties important monuments, buildings and memorials to the city’s complex Prussian, Imperial, Nazi and Cold War past, weaving history into a detailed narrative. Compare these historical sights with modern marvels such as Potsdamer Platz and Friedrichstrasse.
Start your 4-hour walking tour in either East Berlin or West Berlin. Your guide will begin with an overview of how Berlin was founded, and will continue explaining the long, complex and fascinating history of Germany’s capital city throughout your tour. Stroll down the Unter den Linden boulevard, linking the Stadtschloss royal palace to Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate. As Berlin grew and expanded to the west, Unter den Linden became the grandest and best-known street in the city by the 19th century. Visit Museum Island, the Neue Wache memorial and the Berlin State Library, where Albert Einstein once worked, and walk under the triumphal arc of Brandenburg Gate, the monumental entry to Unter den Linden. Nearby you’ll see the Reichstag parliament building, Pariser Platz, Hitler’s bunker and the poignant Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. Follow the 'death strip' to Checkpoint Charlie, and stand in the square of Bebelplatz, the site of the infamous 1933 Nazi book burnings. Walk along the remains of the Berlin Wall, which once divided East and West Berlin, and learn of the momentous events leading to its collapse in 1989. Pause outside the Topography of Terror museum, located on the site of the former Gestapo and SS headquarters. Your guide will explain how the museum’s intentioned location reflects Berlin’s efforts at confronting and grappling with its past. Look down into the excavated cellars, where political prisoners were tortured and executed. On a lighter note, get a taste of modern Berlin at Potsdamer Platz, with its urban architectural spread, and see how the area of Friedrichstrasse is being reinvented as Berlin's luxury shopping street. Your tour ends at the beautiful square of Gendarmenmarkt, and you'll be provided a city map with information regarding public transport and the best of Berlin's museums and nightlife.
Amazing tour! My guide Nathan was knowledgeable on German history, Nazi Germany history, the Cold War, and World Wars I and II. He took us around to all the top attractions of Berlin and this tour is a great way to get yourself acquainted with the big city of Berlin. I would recommend staying in Berlin for at least 3 days because I didn't feel like my day and a half stay was nearly long enough to explore the city in depth.

My friends and I absolutely loved this tour! Our guide Gregor set a great pace for all ages involved, showed us all the major sites one would want to see in Berlin, and gave us advice for after our tour of various areas we may want to see and how to get there. Overall would definitely do again!

Great tour. The description of this tour is accurate. My wife and I took this in May. This tour is a steal -- 16 bucks and change is cheap! I believe our tour guide was Ken. He is big guy with a booming voice from Ireland. He is also funny. The big voice came in handy because there were 31 in our group. Such a large group can be tricky. He kept the group moving, but not too fast. Several times we stopped for a head count to make sure the group was still together. When he could, he planned stops in the shade as it was a bright, sunny day. We stopped for lunch at the Check Point Charley area where we had about an hour and many restaurants to choose from. The Guide really knew his stuff and kept everyone interested the entire tour. Bravo!

Absolutely fascinating tour of Berlin's major historical sites. Our guide, Kathryn, was excellent in explaining the history not just in terms of the standard guide book history but at a level that helped us understand the context and background to the history of Berlin. Well worth the money. A great 4 hour walk.

This tour was the first and too long of a walk on a cold, rainy, snowy miserable day in Berlin. The guide moved very quickly and we couldn't hear most of what was being said. I am not sure why they don't use head phones with these large walking groups in Germany. I was interesting seeing the place by foot, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who have a hard time walking. It is a big city and a lot of walking.

A pleasant experience, Kyle was a good tour guide. My only suggestion would be to speak a bit more slowly and allow more time for people to ask questions, as it made the whole experience seem a bit rushed.

Loved this tour and the tour guide! Although he is French I forget his name, he knows a lot about the history of Berlin and provides a personal touch and perspective while talking about the landmarks, which I really liked. Our guide gave us a great historical background of Berlin and showed us what life was like during the Cold War period. It's a lot of walking, but it doesn't feel like we've walked that much until you look at the map. Timing was great, gave us ample time to take pictures and enjoy the sights of the city. The view of Brandenburg Gate is much nicer at night, even though there are too many random little carts around that area, making it hard to take a nice picture of the gate. Otherwise, we had an amazing time!

A great tour for anyone wanting to hit the main sites in a short time. The great thing about it is you can retrace your steps afterwards and spend longer at some bits if you wanted. The guide will also be able to give you suggestions on what to see on the rest of your trip.

Cant remember the gentlemans name who did this tour with us but he was brilliant! He was an american guy who was studying in Berlin and was passionate about everything he showed us. On the day we arrived in Berlin, my friend and I took the afternoon 1/2 day walking tour with Carolina. In spite of being exhaustedand very cold, we managed to see many sights and hear many stories that were very interesting and insightful. Carolina was very knowledgeable and her love of the city was infectious. We saw so much more than we had anticipated. It was a great introduction to Berlin and its history!

I found this tour to be a very informative and interesting introduction to Berlin. The tour guide lead us past many of the old buildings and landmarks associated with the happenings in Berlin over the last 100 years. She provided an insight into the drivers behind the rise of the third Reich and into the relationship between East and West Berliners. Our guide was very knowledgable re the history of Berlin And presented the information in an entertaining and homerous style.

beth was veery knowlegeable with great delivery but never stopped for first 2 1/2 hours, didnt help when we were looking for a water closet, and got off track of history and into political questions. she let the group get too large, she ley everyone in and then couldnt keep track of people. she had a fairly decent pace so if you were left behind at a light change you had a hard time finding your group. started out wiyh great anticipation and finally left the group after 3 hours
