San Sebastian and Biarritz

Bilbao, Spain

Admire the beauty of San Sebastian on a walking tour of the Old Quarter, before enjoying the food at the typical fishing village of Hondarribia. Delight yourself with Biarritz, The Beach of Kings, a place chosen to spend their summer vacations by European royalty and famous figures such as Napoleon III and Frank Sinatra.

Follow the highway towards the east, through stunning natural landscape. You will arrive in San Sebastian, the most beautiful city in the Basque Country to start a panoramic tour of the city. There are magnificent views up the mountain Igeldo, plus a walking tour into the old historical quarter. After your tour you will have free time to enjoy the city at leisure.

Later on, you will head towards the border with France, passing through the village of Pasajes and industrial port which is very important to the region.
The next stop will be Hondarribia, a village full of history that holds a medieval fortress and a lovely area that in the past was a pirate and whaler port. There will be free time for lunch and your guide will suggest a selection of recommended local restaurants. Afterwards, transfer by boat from Hondarribia to Hendaya across the Txingudi (natural reserve) bay.

Following the rugged coastal road you will continue to Saint Jean De Luz, a lovely small village located on the French Basque coast. The house of Louis XIV and the Church of Saint Jean Baptist are the highlights, surrounded by narrow streets.

Your last stop will be at Biarritz. The Beach of Kings. It was a magnet for famous and royalty such as Napoleon III, Gary Cooper and Frank Sinatra, and still nowadays it is a very important tourist destination.

You will be able to enjoy the old port, the Virgin on the Rock, the streets and the beautiful figure that forms this village on the coast. Finally you will return directly back to Bilbao to arrive at approximately 7:30pm.

The guide was rushing too much. Not that great experience. We were looking to San Sebastian and Biarritz but he kept saying we have to cover 4 spots. Wish we had a bit more time on our own.

I have already written my review, but your silly website erased it all after asking for my password._br/_ I will give a quick review._br/_ Decent tour, a bit long with a lot of driving. We were only English speaking tourists in our bus, mostly Spanish tourists although guide did a good job explaining in both languages, I think the Spanish patrons may have gotten a little more info._br/_ Visited Biarritz, Saint Jean De Luz, and Hondarribia. All charming towns. We dropped off to eat in Hondarribia, wished we could have eaten in San Sebastian where we were going anyways. Wished more time was spent in San Sebastian._br/_ Beautiful buildings and beaches in San Sebastian. As I mentioned, we should have spent more time here, final location was a castle on a hill converted to an amusement park. A weird place, but excellent vantage point for photos.

Very good tour and worthwhile however, I recommend not taking this on Sunday since many things were closed. However, we found it enjoyable nonetheless.

Highly recommended, beautiful scenery. San Sebastian was great, a lot of history there. Along the way we visited other small towns which were breathtaking. Our tour guide was great.

Nice trip, but we had to wait one hour for a New bus to take us further.

It was a great adventure. The bus broke down, but the guide handled ii well. We saw so much, we would not have been able to do it on our own in one day.

I think this is a good value tour. It rained most of the day, so we were not able to fully experience all that was advertised, but that is not something that can be helped. I liked our guide - he was warm, friendly and had a lot of information. Since we had both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking participants, he had to provide information in both languages. I was in the back of the van and it was very difficult to hear him. I would not do this again unless I knew there was amplification through a microphone. I missed quite a bit of what the guice had to say. Also, he never did introduce himself - so I don't know his name.

This tour was really enjoyable. Only thing is with all the stops we made, the tour should be split into two separate tours. We did not have enough time to spend in each place. Our tour guide, Pedro was wonderful. Especially being so patient speaking in both English and Spanish. After seeing these places, we know we want to go back and spend more time there.

Tour was disappointing as there was little information given about Basque culture, history and the differences between the French and Spanish Basque areas. Mostly, we were left on our own to wander the streets of the small towns.

Pedro, our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cities we visited. He was able to work well with both English and Spanish translations. Felt we had ample time at the stops. The only downside was a brief shower at the beginning of San Sebastián then the sun came out

We had an awesome time in Toledo. The sights are a must see. Our tour guide Jose was very knowledgeable about the city and its history. We took the tour with our 1 year old son. Everything was very manageable. We had a stroller and book bag for all his things. We walked a bit but we were expecting 2

An interesting trip to San Sebastian and Biarritz. San Sebastian turned out to be the most beautiful and the most interesting of the two. The Lunch break in Hondarribia was also a pleasant surprise. The guide was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic.

It's good that the excursion schedule wasn't very strict: we could ask to spend more time somewhere or to stop somewhere for taking pictures at some picturesque place that was not in the plan._br/_ We liked the idea of crossing the border in two different ways (by car and by boat). We also enjoyed beatiful viewpoints and landscapes of Basque Country, and of course our guide telling a lot of stories. We didn't get bored for a single minute of this journey!

too little time in San Sebastian and we see even more less time in Biarritz. _br/_ My advice : rent a car - drive to Biarritz yourself.

Great Tour! We did the visit in the opposite direction of what was presented by Viator, but that was much better. The guide was excellent, interesting ,funny and relaxed. The high point was San Sebastián, beautiful city!

Excellent tour taking in the highlights of Biarritz, St Jean de luz and San Sebastian. Our guide Gary was genuinely friendly. He spiced up the tour with instructive comments and anecdotes on the region's history and current events. The tour participants were mostly Iberian but he ensured that english speakers (only 4 of us in a full bus) weren't short-changed. He even accompanied us on our short walks around the tour sites.

loved the trip but not a good guide at all; ignored English speakers most of time and difficult to hear in back or understand with accent when he did speak English...would not have missed the countryside but need a different guide

I really enjoyed the tour a lot. It was intensive but we saw fantastic views of the Cantabrian Sea, beautiful small towns and landscape. The guide - Jon, was very friendly and made it a great day for all of us.

This is a must do tour when you are in the Basque Country. John was amazing, with a very friendly personality. If I do a tour again in this region, I will request for him personally. We saw some of the most amazing views one could ever imagine. The weather was also on our side. I highly recommend this tour.

Biarritz and San Sebastian are really so awesome to visit. The clear blue seas are superb! Seafood and wine are great. You should try pintxos, different kind of foods in small portions on a stick. We would love to go back. Our guide was great.

Not sure I would recommend this trip. There seemed to be more time spent driving than enjoying the destinations. For example. we were given 5 minutes to spend in Biarritz and then loaded back into the van.

I can sum up the experience in one word................._br/_ PATHETIC...We rode the bus to Biarritz where we were given about 5 min on the clock...The guide wasn't the best either..We ended up travellling for 6 hrs in the bus..

A lovely day despite the awful weather! the guide was knowledgable, and although quite a rushed day and pouring rain we saw all we wanted, and the best afternoon views over San Sebastian from high above and at last sunshine, as if to show the stunning beauty of the beautiful crescent beach.

Would highly recommend, even in cold and windy weather. A great way to see this region in a short amount of time. Very informative.

Review by:   Carina B,    March 2012 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
I enjoyed the day and, our Guide was lovely, however, I (and my fellow travellers) felt that it was not worth the money paid- I recently paid less in Tunisia to visit Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis, with entry fees to all the sites included and lunch- there was only one entry fee on this trip and no lunch- it was basically a minibus trip to Biarritz and San Sebastian (not enough time there and it was the place we all wanted to see most) + a boat/ferry trip across a bay. I enjoyed it, however, was definitely over priced in my opinion (I've worked in the travel business for the best part of 15 yrs). Sorry!

The tour was fine, giving us a chance to see the countryside north of Bilbao. Some good food, too. Personally, we would have preferred to stay in St. Jean-de-Luz for the whole day eating that great-looking seafood at all the outdoor restaurants.

I really enjoyed seeing Biarritz and the small towns before San Sebastian. I had expected to eat in San Sebastian and had researched it for a place but we didn't get to to eat there so the advertising needs to not say lunch there as it is misleading. John was very enthusaitic but a bit hard to understand at times since it was so fast. Loved the little beach town and would so this again. Well organized.

Review by:   KAREN S,    June 2011 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
This tour was excellent, but a little too jam packed. There was no free time other than 45 minutes to have lunch. It would have been nice to drop our first stop and have a little time on our own in Biarritz and San Sebastian.. No coffee nor toilet stops were offered and luch was very late - around 3. Then off to San Sebastian which was very rushed. Still very worthwhile and the scenery will not disappoint..
