Bora Bora 4WD Tour

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Discover the natural beauty and culture of Bora Bora on a half-day 4WD tour with an experienced guide. Circle the entire island, making several stops along the way to take in amazing views from the East Matira, Faanui Canon and Amanahune Bay lookouts. Visit a workshop to learn how sarongs and coconut oil are made, then taste delicious fruits at a small farm. Check out World War II artifacts and hear the history of the island on a relaxing tour with an abundance of postcard-perfect photo ops.

After your choice of morning, afternoon or early evening pickup from Vaitape Pier or your Bora Bora hotel, start your 4WD tour of the island with your professional guide.

Travel approximately 20 miles (32 km) all the way around the island to reach amazing lookout points where you can soak in views of turquoise ocean and lush green hills.

Travel to the East Matira lookout to admire a great perspective on the shimmering lagoon. Then continue to Faanui Canon lookout to see canons left behind by US troops after WWII. Your guide explains the American presence in Bora Bora during the war and the mission known as Operation Bobcat.

In Faanui Valley, visit a small workshop where artisans make beautiful tie-dye sarongs and coconut oil. After watching the production process, taste delicious tropical fruits at a small fruit plantation.

Next, head to the Amanahune Bay lookout where you can examine rock formations that were once inside of the caldera of Bora Bora, a volcanic island formed after volcanic eruptions long ago.

During your 4-hr tour, complete a full circle around the island by open-sided 4WD, perfect for scaling any mountain or rough track on the tropical island. Be sure to bring your camera to capture photos of the many breathtaking views as well as locations made famous in the 1962 Marlon Brando movie Mutiny on the Bounty.

If you choose the sunset tour, your 4WD stops at a couple of viewpoints before heading to the perfect lookout to watch the sunset. Sip a provided glass of bubbly and listen to live local music during a magical sunset experience on this stunning island.

After your 4-hour tour, your guide returns you to your hotel.

We did the sunset tour with champagne toast. Teama was our tour guide and he was extremely personable, friendly, funny, and a great musician! He was also knowledgeable about the history of Polynesia. The total tour was about 1.5. He took us up to two lookouts for pictures, the second lookout for the sunset where he played ukelele and sang. My wife is still singing the Tahitian song about Bora Bora! She plays guitar/ukelele and trying to find the music on the internet, but has not been able too. Teama if you see this review and have the chords/lyrics she would love to have them!

We unfortunately were unable to make this excursion. A N/A choice should be available if the star system is a required field.

Teama was our guide. His personal touch to this tour made our honeymoon great. Beautiful sunset, nice surprise, and I can not say anything but great about him. He sang songs and played ukulele while driving in the same time his 4WD. His technique was quite something.!!!

Great tour - Santiago is a great guide. Bora Bora is a beautiful island and you need to see it up from up high to see just how beautiful. Our guide new so much about the island and the culture. Seeing the war monument was one of the main reasons we took the tour and he got us up there. Seeing how the people lived and learning what is important to them - gardens and families! You don't want to miss this one!

Our young guides were lots of fun and took us to some roads that were rough, steep, but spectacular views. We had sparkling wine for the sunset, along with a ukele serenade by our guides. We really had to hold on going up and down hills, so a little more physical than we expected.

Prior to arrival at Bora Bora we were emailed advice that the tour would depart from Vaitape Pier at 1.00pm. We arrived in plenty of time and began looking around for where Vavau 4X4 Adventures set off from. We found such a vehicle in a car park adjacent to the pier and we were informed by a Vavau Representative present to wait back at the pier driveway._br/_ Later, as the time was well past 1.00pm, we again went to the car park adjacent to the pier, only to find 2 Vavau 4X4 Adventures vehicles already loaded with tourists and were were told there was a double booking! After a phone call by the Vavau Representative, we were informed that the boss would come and take the 4 of us on the tour himself. We were most appreciative of the change to an air conditioned vehicle and a very friendly and informative guide Patrick, but as it turned out, we had already lost at least 30 minutes of our tour time and this was not made up as we returned to the ship early, thus loosing more tour time still!_br/_ Patrick was an excellent driver and tour guide and he tried his best to make up for our inconvenience. We travelled around the whole island and stopped at beautiful vantage points overlooking the local areas and resorts.

Took this tour on our first day in Bora Bora aboard the Windstar Spirit. Very nice tour, multiple stops for picture taking. English was not the primary language of our guide, Santi, so sometimes we had difficulty understanding him but he did okay. Nice way to get to see different sights/places on this island.

Both fun and informative. An excellent way to get an overview of Bora Bora. Jingo was the best guide ever! Both funny and informative and very knowledgable about his home. I would go again!

Tour started late. We were waiting for 1 couple for over an hour. I unbderstand starting late - but an hour for 2 people was unacceptable - and the tour ended on time - if not a little earlier. Very disappointing tour.

He made the tour so much fun with his great sense of humor and I learned so much. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone traveling

Learn the culture and see the sights. Sunset is the best. Alex guide was great!

This tour had some interesting information, but for the most part it was only about World War II and our guide's personal family experience with World War II. It would have been nice to include something else tour, because it got rather boring hearing the same information over and over.

Alex was our tour guide and we enjoyed his wealth of knowledge. We went up three fairly steep and bumpy hills and the views were breath taking. This is such a gorgeous island and this tour really lets you see the glorious scenery and the wonderful colors in the water. The vehicle was comfortable and we were very happy with this tour.

Our guide George was entertaining. Take this tour for 1/2 a day break from the beach/hotel. Nice views but go for the history talks.

Review by:   Roger I B,    March 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Not very good at all. 'George' or whatever his real name was took far too long at the beginning. stopping every hundred yards or so to tell us about what he found interesting but without really adding to our knowledge and then drove ridiculously fast afterwards with the result that we did not manage to see much on that part of the trip - presumably so that he could finish the tour in 3 hours, as he did, a full half an hour less than given in the particulars for about the trip, We used the 4-wheel drive facilityduring the trip for less than 100 yards. Not recommended..

Based on similar 4x4 tours we have taken elsewhere in French Polynesia, this tour was very good, but not great. It's the guide who makes-or-breaks the tour, and while our guide was nice enough, we speak english and very little french and he spoke french and a little english. We were able to communicate the basics, but it was hard to have any kind of in depth communication. We were met at the cruise dock at the time indicated - no need to arrive early, the tour leaves at the time specified. There were only 4 of us on our tour, so it was very comfortable. We circled the island counter-clockwise, going up 3 very steep backroads to viewpoints, plus stopping at other photo points and a couple of brief shopping opportunities. We later learned that a similar tour circles the island clockwise with the option to left at the beautiful beach not far south of town, where there is a 5 shuttle back to the port.

Great experience to see the whole island. You go up steep hills in the tour so make sure if you are sitting in the back of the car that you hold onto your stuff and yourself. It seems dangerous but its not. Have fun and see the sights!

Brilliant tour in small 4X4. Went places bigger vehicles could not go and saw wonerful views of the island. Driver very knowledgeable and interesting. Most important because we were delayed getting off cruise ship he waited for us. Great morning.

Alex, our guide, was amazing! We did the sunset tour and he took us to a lookout spot where we could see both sides of the island. Along the way, he stopped to show us local plant life and how it was used in the Polynesian Culture. He brought his ukulele and sang to us as the sunset went down. This was one of the most memorable parts of our honeymoon. We would recommend to anyone and everyone!

We loved our tour of the island with Kamira I think that was her name!! She was so helpful and knowledgeable and happy to answer every question we had. We learned the most about the island on this day of our trip. The look-out points she took us to were a dream. It's just amazing how gorgeous this place is in person. Even after seeing hundreds of pictures of Bora Bora, it's nothing compared to actually being there.

A bit disappointing. Viator failed to communicate this booking to the tour guide operator. Had I not had a copy of my voucher, I would have been charged twice for this tour. As far as the tour goes, the experience we had on this guided tour was very limited as we did not have the opportunity to visit the central/downtown market square of Vaitepe/Bora Bora.

Cannibal Frank as he called himself was very funny and informative. We has a severe tropical downpour at the start of our tour and we were going to call it off. We travelled with a great group of international travellers. Despite the weather we had a terrific time. Glad Frank found his number plate..lol. Highly recommend as you get to travel on private land that the general public do not have permission to drive along. Thanks Frank.
