Small-Group Medoc or St-Emilion Wine Tasting and Chateaux Tour from Bordeaux

Bordeaux, France

Enjoy an afternoon of French wine tasting in either the Medoc or St-Emilion wine region on this small-group tour from Bordeaux. Visit two wonderful French châteaux and enjoy tasting different wines accompanied by a typical French platter of local bread, cheese and cured meat. End your afternoon with a wine workshop where you’ll learn some expert wine-tasting tips.

On this small-group half-day tour, leave Bordeaux in the afternoon and relax on the scenic drive to either the Medoc or the St-Emilion wine region for a wine tasting at two different châteaux.

Medoc wine tour:
Drive along Medoc’s scenic Castle Road while admiring the views of famous châteaux such as Margaux, Latour or Mouton-Rothschild. Along the way, make several stops for excellent photo opportunities and listen as your knowledgeable guide gives an introduction to the Bordeaux wine region before arriving at the first château. This classified growth château - known for its high quality wine -- is one of the most prestigious châteaux in the region. Some of the châteaux you may visit are Cantenac-Brown, Paloumey, Siran or Lagrange. In the vineyard, taste one of the château’s wines before visiting the cellars to learn about the wine-making process. Then, taste more wine and enjoy some French appetizers including local cheese, fresh bread and saucisson (dried sausage).

Continue to the second château, a charming family-run estate. Tour the château and its cellars before taking part in a wine workshop, where you’ll expand your knowledge of and appreciation for French wine.

St-Emilion wine tour:
Sit back and relax on the drive from Bordeaux to the vineyards of St-Emilion. The first stop is a classified growth château, a château that produces high quality wine. Some of the châteaux you may visit are Soutard, Grand Mayne, Pressac or Ferrand. Enjoy a glass of wine accompanied by a platter of local bread, cheese and saucisson (dried sausage). Listen as your guide explains the wine-making process and discover a little-known fact that all Bordeaux wines are blends.

Next, discover the charming village of St-Emilion, featuring nearly 800 châteaux, on a guided tour. This UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to medieval times. Then, visit a second château, a family-run estate that has been running for several generations. Wander through the vineyards while your guide explains the main varieties of wine in the region. Finish your tour with a wine workshop to learn more about French wine.

Cannot fault this tour! From the moment we left with our Tour guide Jerome, we had the most amazing experience and learnt so much about St Emilion, wine and much more. Truly worth every penny spent...

Highly recommended - very knowledgeable guide and good choice of wineries

I am avid wine taster and buyer. I was looking forward to my two promised tastes at each chateau in order to make that many purchases. Chateau Laniote had 5-6 vintages on their wine list but chose to pour only one. When queried, he said he was new to the tour circuit and thats all he had. Our guide tried to make up for it by pouring a Medoc later a region we werent visiting...not a wine I could buy. _br/_ Further, the description of this tour also mentioned instruction on tasting techniques, which consisted of being told to close my eyes and name the smells. There is so much more to it than that!_br/_ Lastly, our guide was a Certified Wine Educator CWE who only educated when prompted. The 40-minute ride in each direction couldve been used to enhance the entire process.

Great wine tasting tour of small family owned and larger wineries. Guide was very knowledgeable. Although, he spoke Spanish a lot because there was a Spanish couple but more English speaking group got annoyed.

We met our guide at the Tourist Info Centre and hopped on a minibus with about 10 other people. We visited three wineries and had tours and informative sessions with each of the local winery guides, followed by generous tastings. After the second tasting we had free time in beautiful St Emilio, enough time to have lunch and look at the main sights. The third winery had lovely views over the vines from the tasting room. Our guide was very nice.

We met our guide at the tourist info centre and a group of 8 of us headed off to St Medoc. We visited 3 wineries and the tours and tastings at each were all interesting and informative.

This tour was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Worth it to see some of the countryside surrounding Bordeaux. The 2 wineries visited were both stunning but the highlight was the town of St Emilion. Our guide, Remi, was super knowledgeable of both wine and history. Highly recommend.

After a fantastic day touring and tasting the best French wines in the St Emilion area near to Bordeaux, we decided to follow it up the following day with another tour of vineyards and wineries this time in the Medoc area. We were certainly not disappointed and once again we had a memorable experience provided by friendly and knowledgeable guides and the owners and winemakers who happily opened up their facilities, processes and gorgeous chateaux to us. The tour gave us the ability to compare and contrast the wine styles and tastes in the Medoc with those in St Emilion which we had experienced the previous day. We can't recommend these tours highly enough and, whether you just want to experience the best in French wine and food accompaniments, or you are serious about your choice of wines and want to taste the best, this may well be the tour for you.

Our tour was a focus on the sights and tastes of the St Emilion wine region near to the beautiful city of Bordeaux. Everything about the day tour was first class the guide, transport, sightseeing and the wine tasting. For people who have a strong interest in learning about the best in French wines this tour is a must small tour group, gorgeous vineyards and chateaux and an easy and friendly approach to the tastings of the best vintagest with great food also supplied.....no skimping there at all.

Our guide was fabulous! Very knowledgeable and personable. Everyone loved her. The scenery is breathtaking, and the vineyards we visited in St-Emilion were amazing. Nice tastings! I bought a very nice bottle that I was told would be good for 20 years. I plan to drink it way before that time!

This was a fabulous tour of two very different chateau vineyards. The tour guide was very knowledgable about the area, although the wine tastings were conducted by experts from the vineyards themselves. St-Emilion is a delightful little town.

We had visited 2 chateaus: Cote de Baleau and La Dauphine. The visit of La Dauphine was really good that we could even taken a look of their factory and the manager had a very detailed introduction. Our guide Appoline is energetic and helpful. The little regret was only having not enough time to walk around St. Emilion.

This was exactly what I had wanted. Small group of 8 people, St-Emilion wine tasting and a wonderful driver/ guide. I could only fit into the 1/2 day trip because the full day, small group wouldn't take a single person. That would be my only complaint, is that people traveling solo are limited to a very few choices unless they go on the big group tours.

I learned so much on this tour!! I liked the game to test our wine senses. The only issue was that it was supposed to a tour in English and the host at the first winery could speak English but only spoke French during the tour. Our guide would translate a little but we missed about 90% of it.

Jay our guide was excellent... visiting the village of St Emilion village is also nice. We only visited two chateauxs which were OK - each has limited wine offering we think they should add another two Chataus to move the day from Good to Great

This half-day tour took us to two chateaus in Saint Emilion - Chateau Soutard and Chateau Cote de Baleu, as well as a walking tour of Saint Emilion. We spent about 45 mins to 1 hr at each stop. Our tour guide, Soline, was incredibly personable and the tour itself was very informative however, everything felt very rushed and without enough time to enjoy the beauty of Saint Emilion. While this tour allowed my husband and I to fit in a quick tour to Saint Emilion during a short trip to Bordeaux, I give this tour 3 stars due to value for money - I don't think it is worth the price we paid for the very brief experience we got. If we do return to the region, I think we will rent a car and drive through the wine region ourselves to enjoy it more at a leisurely pace.

Our guide Louis was on his last day for the 'firm' and it felt like it. Little information imparted. Samples of wine for tasting were microscopic. One of the vineyard guides tradition winery declared that she hated red wines when asked the question at the end of her presentation. She did not sound too enthusiastic. Members of the public tagged along in our group..............The presentation delivered at the modern winery was better.

I love this tour. The tour Leader Manon was very informative. 2 Chateaus we visited were great and great comparison one over the other. What a contrast. I wished that we would spend more time at St Emilion village, we were there only for 10 minutes, I could stay there for 1 hour.

The tour Medoc was very well organized with a lot of personal flavor guide: Louis and competent, charming explanations by the local staff in the Chateaux. It did not feel at all like just a program execution, but more like a joyful afternoon with a lot to discover, taste and learn.

We did the St Emilion tour in a mini bus with an excellent guide, Soline. She was fun, helpful and informative about the wines and this beautiful region. We were taken into the vineyards and caves as well as tasting the wines in the Chateaux. In one chateau we tested out our ability or lack of it to detect and name aromas - challenging and good fun. In another, we tasted local cheese and cold meat as well as the wines. In addition, the guided walking tour around the small town of St Emilion was a real treat. If you love wines, you must do this trip.

We are so glad we escaped from Bordeaux city, and go into St. Emilion wine country with a well informed enthusiastic guide, who took us to 2 totally different wine Chateaux. One is cutting edge, breaking with stodgy Bordeaux don't change anything, the other very traditional, that just lost 80 of its 2017 crop due to a 2017 frost. And we tasted 2 wines from each in special surroundings. Fantastic. Then a tour of St. Emilion itself - the old church, the secret wine caves. Spectacular tour - recommended to my closest friends 3,000 km away.

Excellent tour. Guide Franc was knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoyed the small group size 8. Went to two vineyards, toured the facilities and then sampled the wines all excellent. Small snack of cheese, bread and chocolate were provided. My one exception, and probably my own fault for not investigating further, is that we really wanted to tour St Emilion vineyards and town the title of this tour says Medoc OR St Emilion and we ended up doing Medoc. Not sure how or who picks the OR part of the tour so at first we were a little disappointed, however it was an excellent, informative tour so we went on our own to St Emilion the next day to enjoy the towns and wines.

Although only a half day tour, we enjoyed this trip more than our full day trip to Medoc. The vineyards in this area are a lot more picturesque and we enjoyed the two vineyards in this area more than those in Medoc. This trip was money well spent.

We had a great 4-5 hour tour with the BordoVino team on our tour of two Chateaus Soutard and Sale. Breit, our tour guide, was simply outstanding and knowledgeable. She was very familiar with Bordeaux and its wines and was a delight to be with. Our walking tour through the village of St-Emilion will be etched in our memories. Wish we had more time to simply sit and have a picnic at St.-Emilion to take in all its beauty and charm. That'll be for our next visit. :-

Yan was a great tour guide and we really enjoyed all aspects of the tour. More time in the village would have be nice but the tours of the chateaus were excellent as were the wines!_br/_ We were especially grateful for Yan providing shelter from the rain at his office when we returned to Bordeaux! Thank you so much.

Very informative tour, and our guide Julien was wonderful! We didn't expect to learn so much history about the region on a wine tour, which was a great bonus. Excellent value for the money and we would do it again. Two vineyards we visited were very different, but both special and interesting. I feel like I know how to choose a good bordeaux wine now! : 5 stars.

Wonderful afternoon was spent with our guide Clare. She was very knowledgeable of the St Emilloon area. Our group of 4 from Australia was joined by 4 others. Transport was good. Only criticism was the guide at the first chateaux we visited was softly spoken and hard to here. Great tour and would recommend to anyone visiting Bordeaux
