Buenos Aires Dining Experience: Empanada Making, Steak, Wine, Alfajores and Mate

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Come join us on a mouthwatering journey of Argentina's culinary highlights with Buenos Aires' most fun and interactive dining experience. Add some flare to your evening and opt for the wine-based cocktail class to begin. Then learn how to close your own empanadas using different 'repulga' techniques. During the dinner enjoy four boutique wines paired perfectly with foods from all four corners of Argentina, and top it off with what many claim to be the very best steak in the country. The final step; learn how to prepare Argentina's most popular drink, mate, coupled with the countries most popular sweet, alfajores.

This unique interactive dining experience starts with a Malbec wine-based cocktail on arrival, and an introduction to your fellow foodie travelers who you'll be sitting with on your 14-person banquet table. Then, it's time to suit up in an apron and chef's hat. This has nothing to do with cooking, but is a way to break the ice. It also makes for great photos.

The night is designed to take your taste buds on a journey all around the country, with foods that you might come to Argentina expecting to try, and some surprises that you definitely were not expecting to try. Each and every product used is of the very best quality available, and paired with boutique wines that enhance every mouthful. All the recipes for everything in the experience is available to guests after the dinner, so you can recreate the magic back at home. Aside from wanting to showcase the very best of Argentine cuisine, the night is cleverly designed for travelers to meet travelers, and enjoy a real dinner party with no agenda, just to enjoy each other's company, share travel stories and eat and drink some of the best food and wine in the country.

Mixology Option:
First test your sense of smell in our 'aroma room,' where you have to try to identify 20 of the most common smells within the wines of Argentina. Then, Learn how to make, shake and create wine based cocktails made from red, white and rose wines and enjoy perfectly paired tapas to accompany each one. Finally, choose the cocktail you enjoy the most and make it in large version from scratch to take to dinner with you.
All the recipes will be available to you to take home at the end of the dinner so you can show off to friends and family on your return.

This is a super fun experience in BA. Make sure you take the mixology course, as this is also nice. It's highly interactive and fun, including empanada making I was terrible, wine drinking, and of course, a massive steak. The people running the show are super fun, teaching everything from Argentinian hand gestures to how to order your steak I'm a juegosa guy. This is the one tour to do in BA if you don't have any other time. Go. It's worth it.

There were 4 of us that went and we had a great time! Also had a lot of fun with our table mates and two of us won from our group. Charlotte won for making the winning empanada and I won for the correct answer. Had a wonderful time and the staff was great!

Just wow. We feared this would be a touristy deal and it was. We feared we wouldn't come away with a lot of new cooking ideas we didn't. But darn it we had so much fun! This team brought the diners together in such a spirited and spirit-filled environment and we all had a ball. The mixology portion of the night was terrific and we did get some great new cocktail ideas there. And while we didn't learn a lot about cooking at the dining experience, the food was terrific and we had a gas hanging out at two large community tables. I cannot state it clearly enough: EVERYONE who works at the Buenos Aires Dining Experience comes together to ensure their guests have a ball and come away with a broader understanding of Argentinian culture.

Lots of fun doing it, meeting all the ladies and making new friends. I wish they had given us recipes to make the stuff that goes inside of the Empanada's. This is a must stop when in BA.

Entertaining, friendly, warm, and informative evening of mixing local cocktails, tapas, making empanadas, steak dinner with roasted vegetables, and make your own cookie sandwich dessert. Learn about Yerba mate, too.

Lots of fun, tasty food and wine and welcoming, polished hosts. The restaurant audio made the hosts' voices sound strident and unclear so difficult to understand.

I was hoping there was going to be real empanada cooking. Instead, everything was made and we only filled the pastry and closed them. I was disappointed. If you like to drink and eat and are not worried about actually cooking, then this is for you. The food was good and the wine flowed.

Loved this! It was so much fun. The hosts were very engaging, funny, and helpful. We did not choose the mixology class beforehand but it was ending when we arrived and it looked like everyone was having a very good time. You get to make two empanadas and I use quotations because you are simply filling the pastry with meat that they have already prepared. They show you the closing techniques and you do that. Then, you get a nice big steak and they teach you the Argentine way to order it. Last, you'll get to create your own dulce de leche cookie desserts known as alfajores. They will keep filling up your wine as quickly as you can drink it.

This was our first activity in Buenos Aires when we arrived and we are glad for that. It was a nice introduction to the customs and culture that helped us with the rest of our trip. The staff were fantastic guides through the many courses and very entertaining.

You are greeted with a nice little cocktail while you wait for others to arrive, while you wait it is a great way to chat with a few other fellow travelers and you get situated at the long communal tables. Be aware, despite wearing a hat and a cooking apron, that this IS NOT A COOKING CLASS, you simply fold and stuff 3 empanadas one of which you eat, the other two are given to you after the meal which I wish we had the opportunity to eat as appetizers. Other than having misguided expectations of this as a cooking class, this dining experience was very educational and we learned a lot from it. I loved learning the different styles of folding, how to drink Mate, meat styles of steaks etc. They don't skimp on the wine and the hosts are great! Great as an intro to Argentinian food.

Fantastic experience not to be missed in BA! Mixology host Nina is friendly, hilarious, and super helpful in ensuring everyone make the best cocktails. Smelling contest on 20 different items is more challenging than one can imagine. Steak and wine are great, and the empanadas made by oneself taste particularly delicious! We also had a great time sharing experiences with other travellers!

It is a great place and nice environment with all the interesting people. The dinner was great although I eat too mucho that I could't fall alsleep at night. Joe made my cocktail and we played with the jokes about the holy ice, Lina talked about Brazil and Argentina as she comes from San Paulo, sorry that I can't remember the name of another beautiful girl and her pure accent of English. I think that everyone should try this dining experience.

The Argentinian Experience is exactly that. It's all the traditional Argentinian foods, customs and drinks in one fun filled night. The staff is knowledgeable and entertaining and it was great to meet people from all over the world. We started off with a test, trying to guess the different aromas of wine ingredients. Not as easy as you'd think it would be! Then we had a wine mixology class, teaching us how to make 3 different wine cocktails, with an Hors d'oeuvre to pair with each one. After that we moved upstairs where we made homemade empanadas, got a lesson on how to order your steak in Spanish, had an outrageous steak dinner, followed by homemade alfajores, that we assembled ourselves and a lesson in making and drinking mate. The staff was so much fun, it made for one of the best nights during our stay in Buenos Aires!

This is a very entertaining evening. Not so much of a class, but an entertainment. These guys are really funny and great hosts. The wine flows freely and it is very nice Argentine wine. The steak was one of the best we had while in Buenos Aires. To get to the dining room there is a full flight of stairs, no elevator. One of our party was recovering from a fractured hip and stairs were hard for him, but the guys here helped him up and down. We really hard a great evening.

Very enjoyable evening and exactly as advertised. The food is great, and the hosts are amazing, accommodating, and very funny. They will teach you all about Argentine food and drink and even some customs and body language. They will answer any questions you have. It was fun to go and meet travelers of all ages. Even my 89-year old mother enjoyed herself. I would recommend for everyone.

My experience was magical as this was my first stop after landing in Buenos Aires. The hosts kept the entire night fun and light. They did their best in showing the passion Argentinians have toward their food. The empanada making competition was both delicious and novel. When it came time to eating the steak, they explained the traditional methods used in the country. With dessert and mate after the main meal, I was definitely full and happy. I would come back the next time I'm in Buenos Aires.
