Skyrail Rainforest Cableway Day Trip from Cairns
Cairns, Australia
Enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest as you soar above the canopy aboard the Skyrail on a day trip to Kuranda from Cairns. Choose from a variety of options including Kuranda Scenic Railway, Tjupakai Aboriginal Cultural Park or the popular Rainforestation Nature Park.
Start your day traveling to Kuranda either by coach or aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway. On arrival you'll have free time to shop in Kuranda's Heritage Markets, or grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants/cafes (additional cost). Maybe you prefer a wildlife encounter at Birdworld, Australian Butterfly Sanctuary or Kuranda Koala Gardens (additional cost).
Later, board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for one of the world's most beautiful rainforest experiences. As you glide over the rainforest canopy, take advantage of two optional stops to enjoy a guided walk through the rainforest or visit the CSIRO Interpretive Center.
There are many options available to choose from for your Kuranda day trip so you can do as much or as little as you like. Choose from:
Rail/Rainforestation/Sky- Travel to Kuranda on the Scenic Railway, visit Rainforestation Nature Park, return on Skyrail (10 hours)

A really lovely day out to Kuranda with plenty to see. Unfortunately the train wasnt running due to the torrential rain the week before so they stopped it running for a few days. The cable car was amazing which we took both ways due to the train not running. The driver picked us up really early and so we were left outside the entrance waiting to get in. A really great place to visit. Would definitely recomment this trip.

Really good outing - we saw it all! Train, cable car, Kuranda, and the Rainforestation. Excellent outing! Highly Recommended. Very good logistics - very organized, with hotel pickup and drop-off.

This was far better than I imagined the train was a terrific experience, comfortable and it makes a couple stops for photos. At the top go to the far end of main street to the butterfly house! It costs 20 but worth every penny and more. the cable car down was fun just two people in a six person car, they make two optional stops for short walks to lookouts, and if it is raining, they loan umbrellas visit the lookout places they are very nice.

Beautiful, fun day. Driver picked up on time - railway journey was beautiful. Enjoyed time in Kuranda - getting to hold Yoshi at the Koala park was an added bonus- the wildlife parks were very enjoyable, and the Cableway was a nice way to end - make sure and leave time for the stops on the way down.

This was a fabulous experience.... the train was ok, but the cable car ride was one for the ages! It was one of three top highlights of our whole trip to Australia, and matched climbing the Sydney Harbor bridge. Just amazing!! Don't miss it.

The Skyrail was Nice but the train was so slow it was not enjoyable the destination was okay but everything has a price when experiencing.

This was a enjoyable, informative day out. Friendly and helpful staff, lots to see and do. Butterfly sanctuary was a disappointment , in and out in about half and hour. Everything else great.

I already wrote a positive review and we booked with the Rainforestation combination. The Rainforestation was interesting with some aboriginal demonstrations and a nice buffet lunch that included crocodile and kangaroo among other things. The one disadvantage is that if you book this trip with the Rainforestation, you have very little time in Kuranda. We were disappointed because there is a very cute market all the way in the back near the cableway, and we wanted to get something to eat and do a little shopping there, but we really only had 45 minutes total in Kuranda. You might want to consider another half day is you want to see Kuranda, and you can arrange this yourself in town.

Excellent views on the skyrail! The rainforest was great. The history behind the Kuranda train was stirring, but don't expect to get a lot of pjhotos.

Best day wonderful trip loved the train and sky rail.

Amazing! Loved the cable car but wished we had paid extra for the diamond view with the glass bottom. Not sure if this was offered in this package and if it was I didn't realise what it was. The train was great too. Enjoyed my hour or two wandering around Karunda.

great slow pace trip to do amazing views from the sky rail and the return on the train. Kuranda is a clean and beautiful town

Lovely - a trip you will only do once. But you should do it.

It was a wonderful experience of using both the skyrail and the train. Loved especially the visit in the village. Very unique.

This tour was amazing!
Review by: tammienz1, May 2015
When I called to confirm the tour I was disappointed to find out that my details had not been passed on to the tour operator and also found out at the same time that the railway was going to be out for maintenance on the day that I had booked and paid for. The staff were very helpful in getting this tour switched with another I had booked with a different operator. The tour itself was good and the Cableway is definitely recommended to all travellers. Would have been nice to spend a little more time in Kuranda rather than rushing to catch the shuttle to the Rainforestation Park.

Good day out. "Does what it says on the tin".

Up on the train and back on the cableway was the best way to do this tour. You must do the Rainforest walk when you arrive in Kuranda - starts near the Heritage Markets.

This is the way to get the best of both worlds; the train and skyrail. Would highly recommend hotel pickup as allows you to get a train up to Kuranda and then the skyrail back. You have more than enough time in Kuranda with this option. The skyrail is a truly unforgettable experience.

The selling point was the skyrail. The aboringany tour was alright but nothing exceptional.

We took the scenic railway up with a couple of stops on the way to take photographs. We went into the wildlife bit which was very small but the lady who showed us around was very knowledgable. We had a buffet lunch which had lots of options. Then we went on the army duck which was extremely interesting. Tina our driver/guide was excellent and showed us some flora and fauna and some local wildlife. The aboriginal display was good. We didn't try the spear or boomerang throwing instead we went and held a baby crocodile and got to speak to the keepers for ten minutes, who were more than happy to answer all of our questions. We then went in the skyrail, again with a couple of stops on the way down to take even more photographs. It was a long day but very enjoyable.

Torrential rain took away from this trip. Unable to participate in many activities due to rain. Had to leave early and pay for additional transportation

One of our best days during our trip. What an experience and we were treated to a new glass floor in the cable car, 'BRILLIANT'. I would recommend anyone to visit the Culture Village and take a great ride on the cable car returning on the train.

Hello, done the train trip before( good) but we wanted to do skyrail, spectacular scenes especially the last part when youcome out toa wide view ofCairns itself and the airport.
Review by: Sarah R, October 2012
It was a good experience. I thought that in between arriving in Kurunda and having to leave there was not enough time to experience much. In between wanting to eat lunch, shop the markets we were unable to try any of the wildlife sanctuaries that we were hoping to get to. That just felt unfortunate because we were only there for that one day and unable to return later on in the week.

super awesome day trip! : totally loved the skyrail and train up! a lil too long at kuranda though! :)

I enjoyed myself on this trip but Cairns has a million tours and tour companies and enjoyed myself more on a non viator tour.

The aboriginal cultural centre was great fun - lots of audience participation - boomergang throwing etc. The views from the cablecar were stunning but the highlight was the scenic railway - an amazing feat of engineering. There was a mix up about the tickets being issues but it was remedied by the time the pick up bus arrived at the start of the tour. The town was alright if yu like shopping for souvenirs but to my mind was the least interesting part of the trip.

Skyrail was good, dissapointed with the Kuranda market, thought it was goin to be more aboriganal, we did find a lovely walk through the rain forest, more to our requirament.

i prefer skyrail to train. But by train , could see Baron fall better. Would also recommend to take Tjapuki cultural tour and the recommended schedule for shows in that cultural park is efficient . Wish we could spend more time at heritage market. It would be better if we could leave for Cairns from skyrail station later than 5 pm.

Everyone should take this trip, even my wife who doesn't like heights enjoyed it. Orginization was excellent, lots to see and do. The train ride back was also good.

Facinating rail journey, good views across the valley. Cable car above tree canopy gave spectacular views. Plenty of oppurtunity to get close to kangaroos and koalas. Army Duck ride was good fun.

A good day, the train, rain forest station and skyrail all excellent

The train ride was the first I had experienced since a kid, it was something to see the sights, then to experience the tram was a great way to end the day

A really fascinating day. Great staff and very slick timing. Everything worked out well, and both the train and the sky cableway were brilliant. We also liked the crocs/ koalas and jumpy things.
Review by: Karen R, October 2010
The train ride was great (probably because I had a window seat) and the cable car ride back would have been wonderful if it hadn't been pouring rain. Kuranda was a cute little town but I didn't have nearly enough time there because I had to get to the Rainforest station which is NOT worth it. There are plenty of other places in Australia to see animals, and the Aboriginal dance show was just plain awful.

cable car ride and train were good. Too much time in Kuranda and it rained.. oh, well..

Nice, relaxing trip. Unfortunately, the train wasn't running when we were there, but we got to ride the cableway both directions and the scenery was pretty. All staff was very nice and helpful. We were picked up at our hotel on time and the day trip went very smoothly. We were fortunate to have very nice travel partners in our group, and we all had a good time.
