This tour was a definite highlight of my visit to Cape Tour. I met our guide at a downtown hotel. After introductions and a drink we were driven to a home in the Cape flats former township area of Cape Town. During the drive our guides told us of the history of jazz centered on the Cape Colored people in Cape Town. Jazz developed in Cape Town as a expression of discontent and anger at the policy of apartheid imposed upon the people prior to independence in 1994. At our first stop we were greeted by our hosts who had prepare a delicious Cape Malay dinner for us. We enjoyed the dinner while talking to our host -- a renowned jazz vocalist and pianist based in Cape Town. After dinner he performed for us in his living room on a beautiful, antique, upright piano. The music was amazing! He performed for over an hour - every selection different but all enjoyable._br/_ From there we journeyed to our second performer's home in another former township area. This musician welcomed us to his home. He was a young man who is a master of several instruments. His jazz was much more contemporary and, clearly, influenced by popular genres of music. His enthusiasm and love of jazz was clearly evident in each selection he performed. _br/_ I can't recommend this tour highly enough. If you are interested in the music, culture, lifestyle of South Africa and want an authentic experience -- this is for you!! Highly recommend!!

The first half - good food. but not jazz. The second half brilliant jazz. Check out who will perform if you really are a jazz fan.

Simply the most unique opportunity that you will ever have. The evening was great. The guide is passionate about music, and the provides a nice back history while driving. To meet artists in their homes, dine on their home cooked meal, and have them play privately for you. Simply amazing!!!

Absolutely loved this experience! How awesome to be in a jazz musicians home, treated with so much hospitality. A truly great experience. I would recommend it to anyone interested in seeing how actual South Africans live and enjoy life.

Still humming after a great evening visiting some of South Africa's famous jazz musicians. Living room jazz sessions and good home cooking. Highly recommended!

A very different and unique tour. Thoroughly enjoyed both musicians we visited. Loved having dinner with one and his family. Would have liked to experience dinner with in a musicians home and then a local jazz bar as the second stop.

An interesting experience. The two musicians we visited were fun. Both people performed and we all really enjoyed Maya a young Jazz singer. She had an amazing voice. Hilton was the other jazz performer that we saw, but his style was really not to my taste. His wife's meal was fine.

We enjoyed the music and the chance to meet the two musicians in their respective homes. True to the other reviews, the performances were intimate with only one couple besides us. However, my expectations were not calibrated properly given the relatively steep price tag in comparison the rest of my Cape Town experiences, excursions, and splurges. I'd much rather eat at Pigalle three times, go diving with great white sharks, go on two wine tours, hire a private driver for an entire day, or eat my way down Kloof street multiple times over - all for the same price tag as this small group evening musical tour - than do this jazz safari. In short, while enjoyable, I do not think the this excursion is a good value for your money.

This tour was amazing! The artists were incredibly personable and gifted. Being in such intimate settings as the artists homes and meeting their families, sharing their meal, hearing their stories is a not-to-be missed opportunity! Our guide, Michael, shared a wealth of knowledge about Capetown

I will never recommend this fake jazz tour. First off, we ended up in a very sketchy part of town at night to meet two "Jazz Artists". It was patheti and painful. We were polite and courteous. Viator needs to screen better. I was forced to pick a star rating before submitting, so I picked one - just so the message could be seen. Otherwise, I would have chosen zero stars.

The tour company you used was excellent. The guide was unbelievable and the home we visited and the dinner was outstanding. The host, a musician was very gracious. We visited two clubs and the music was wonderful. A great and exciting tour. Thumbs UP!

This was interesting. We had a good time. For those getting to the meeting point, you need to do a better job getting directions on getting to the place.

I don't know if Jazz safari is an apt name. Spent most time with South African pianists in the Townships of Cape flats and some neighbours coming and joining them in a jembe session. Nothing to do with your Jazz clubs, though we did go to a small gig played by some local university group! The food was OK. Do it but a bit steep for what one gets in return.

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and were so pleased to have been able to experience an authentic, believable, and interactive evening. The fact that the music was also to our taste was a bonus. We actually went to a shop selling musical instruments yesterday to buy tambourines, and maraccas!
